This is a major highlight of my trip to India so far! We had the great pleasure of living with Mr. Babu, his wife Regina and their grandchildren’s on the backwater village of kumarakom in the backwaters of kottayam Kerala. .There are a number of family homes involved in kumarakom but I totally feel I scored with getting to stay in coconut creek. When i phoned up, Babu answered the phone. His home was the cheapest option at 2000 rupees per night which includes accommodation in his family home and with breakfast. It was a double room (twin beds put together), very comfortable and clean with fan and its own bathroom with shower.
This was in December which was peak season. He told me to take the ferry from muhamma boat jetty which was about a one hour journey through the backwaters which was a fabulous experience in itself and when I landed on the island, (you can take a tuc tuc which only takes 15 minutes but don't get to experience of travelling with locals through the backwaters) I followed his directions and walked 7 minutes to his home and his two beautiful, care taker Lalichan was there to greet me. He had moderate English and beautiful manners and at such a young age a massive knowledge and love for their village and community.
A passion I rarely see expressed in such a genuine and humble way. . A highly intelligent and cultured man, we had great conversations about Indian politics and life, religion and most close to his heart, he shared with me the love of his family and his island. Truly rare to see such depth of love. We stayed two nights and wished I could have stayed more Totally recommend this coconut creek homestay and adventures into the backwaters of Kerala.

- beautiful and well manicured setting
- comfortable room with a/c, though the shower-stall fittings were not functioning well
- owners and staff were very hospitable and welcoming
- food was very good and well prepared
- very pleasant town and the homestay was well located, a 10 minute walk to the river's edge
- watching the narrow canals go alive with activity in the early morning was worth every minute of our stay

After a long search of our honeymoon destination, we choose Kerala.
All our arrangements for room were made simple and effortless by via mail and phone on a decent rate at "Coconut Creek Farm and Home Stay" at Kumarakam.
Started our lunch with very simple and tasty typical kerala dishes and our dinner was fabulous as they have made it very romantic atmosphere
and excellent service by the people working there.
Its a wonderful home stay.We liked many things there - the lake, museum, bird sanctuary at Kumarakam.
It was a very memorable experience for us.The hospitality of Mr. Babu and family was great. The food was really tasteful.'Coconut Creek' is really gifted with its natural beauty
and efficient working staffs. The location of the resort and the rooms are outstanding.Specially it is a village.we have come across during our 2 days stay and
we promise you all its a right and excellent choice for stay at "Coconut Creek Farm and Home Stay".
A wonderful honeymoon made us very happy as we chose 'Coconut Creek'.

I was appalled at the actual experience endured during my stay here comparing against some really positive reviews read here on this homestay. I stayed here with my family and was horrified at the way things were managed here and the condition of the rooms itself. We took 3 rooms in this homestay, and as some reviews here state, the actual size of the room are rather small. Size aside, as we were okay to have smaller sized rooms, the condition of the toilets were really bad with broken toilet bowls and as some other reviews have stated, really small towels. When we arrived, a man collected our passports to make copies of it, and while they allowed the rest of the family to enter the rooms first, I stayed behind to collect the passports once they were done making copies-and boy was that a wrong decision, I was made to wait for an hour for them to make copies of the passports and OCI documents! An hour of vacation time spend waiting in their reception area and they were really very slow in going about matters. Another male staff actually came up to us and demanded that we pay the remainder money on the spot (we booked through a travel agency and had made full payment), and we had to call the travel agent who confirmed that full payment had been made to them and told them so as well, to which they then agreed. Imagine the horror of having to wait for an hour for passports and OCIs to be photocopied then on top of that payment being demanded from us knowing fully well that the travel agency had been liaising with them at all times. Not helpful at all. Breakfast was served at their own pace although we had children with us and they told us breakfast would be served at 9am, resulting in hungry, cranky kids in a tight, crammy dining area. Certainly not an experience I would want to relive again and not a place which is child and family friendly, unlike other homestays I have been to. Bad customer service, musty crammed up rooms and broken toilets, definitely not an idea of a good holiday.

Very disappointed with the stay here after our previous locations. We didnt meet the owner but were greeted by a staff member who, unusually from my experience here, wore a dirty shirt. The room only just contained the two of us,a small desk, two suitcases and a small lizard!

The bathroom was small and scruffy with the cistern lid broken and the hot tap on the shower seized closed.

Breakfast was simply rice and a dhal but didn't include fruit.

This was also the first place to actually charge us for the bottled water we had. We only had one night here but if it had been longer would have paid to go elsewhere.

Dear All,

I been to Kumarakom for my anniversary trip in the frst week of July. I had booked this place 3 months in advance and was really impressed by the booking response - email cycle.! It was very prompt and crystal clear!. Mr. Ullas son of Mr. Babu , residing in Kuwait takes care of all online bookings personally and promptly.

I used to get quick replies to my emails say about 2 am in the night !;)...

This is place is really beautiful and a perfect Homestay!... Uncle & Aunty and 'Lalchan' are such lovely people who gave us a warm welcome and yummmy food!

Food was truly awesome with lovely fish fry , fish curry and kerala taste!

Rooms are good , not too large but somehow the orientation and planning of room access is nice. Bath rooms are good and clean .. just that plumbing part needs some care!...We stayed in a room which had access to the kitchen - dining area thru the back door and front canal- garden facing!!..

We also met this auto guy who knew Uncle ; hence he helped us travel instantly to various places just by a call' ... we would call him and he would appear in 10 mins... Mr. james (98467 41984) really a nice guy!.. last day he dropped us to kumarakom station 15km away..

Overall coconut creek is a lovely family and child friendly place!>.. amazing food,,, good service...

The staying rooms are disconnected from the house and accessible just thru a passage and a doorbell !!.... hence u will not feel ur staying in somebody’s place!.. the other half of the area is just meant your self .....The homestay has 3 rooms ,, hence time your dinner times according to your expected hunger time ... Mr. lalchan would help you and is very punctual with your meal timings!..;).. ..!!...

it’s an ideal location for families ,, especially when you have small children for whom you will like to have access to a kitchen like place.. unlike resorts... Hence you will like children to have home food, access to milk and warm water etc... anytime!!...than resort made food!!

I have asked uncle to have a swimming pool next in the back yard!!...Lets hope it comes on soon!!... ;)..

Leslie.

As you enter the gates of Coconut creek, the beauty of the well maintained property gives you a quick vision of what you can expect from here..And to our delight we were more than satisfied with the hospitality, food and the stay here....We were greeted with a lovely smile by Babu uncle and Aunty also rushed out to greet us and show us our room. we spent 3 days in Kerala before coming to Coconut Creek and my husband was fed up with the quality of food served. When we ordered our dinner he was so apprehensive but when he took the first bite i was so happy to see the smile on his face. The prawn and chicken were amazing, absolute home food, healthy and wholesome. the next morning we wanted to see around the place so Babu uncle suggested a speed boat ride, he arranged for an auto pick and drop facility, which was so convenient and the boat ride was also at a very reasonable cost. breakfast again was amazing..Idly, Sambhar, Chutney, Bread, and Omellette..it was really unfortunate that we had booked this place only for a day and had to leave so early but the little time spent was enough to build a lovely memory.Thank you Lalchan for the prompt service. We will definately be returning to Coconut Creek the next time we are in Kerala..

We arrived at 10 30 pm tired after a long journey, but the owner and cook were waiting for us with hot and yummy dinner. Its a beautiful property with clean rooms and you get yummy home made food. Its very close to the lake..about 2 mins walk..we could spend only a day at this lovely place..but loved every minute of it..wish we could have stayed longer.

Coconut Creek is a perfect base to explore the kuttanad region in Kerala. Very helpful email response from Mr. Ullas, for all my emails from initial inquiry - believe me, I sent quite a few! Coconut Creek's driver picked us from Kottayam station without any hassle. If you are not coming here by car, I recommend you to avail CC's transport services, it makes things so much easier. The owners will help you with all transport and houseboat stay - I stayed in their houseboat too, which was very nice (will be reviewing it later).

Mr Babu arranged for a car for us to see the Alleppey boat race that day, and we had lovely dinner at CC, absolutely yummy home-cooked food, huge quantitites also, my parents loved it. Mr & Mrs Babu, and Lalchan the cook/housekeeper took care of us very well. The lovely landscaping around the homestay is a perfect place to relax. There is nothing I can fault at all at CC. My only nitpick would be to replace the door bolts in the bathroom, as they were on the verge of being broken.

Coconut Creek is indeed a homestay, as in you stay in the home of the owners, but you stay in a separate wing, not with the owners themselves, so you do not have meals with them or interact much with them (though they were always available whenever we need to talk to them). This kind of set up worked for us very well, but if you are looking for more interaction and talks etc, then CC may not be for you. Party people, you may want to look elsewhere because this is generally a quiet family home and of course, no alcohol allowed!

Summary - If you are a family wth kids (any age) or if you are on a small budget, you will love staying here beause what Coconut Stay offers - for the price - can never be obtained from a hotel or resort. Actually, there is nothing new I can say about this homestay, it is as great as all of others say (I especially agree with skundu26 and leslieblr). As leslieblr mentions, a swimming pool would make CC complete. I have decided to go for homestays only in my future travels with family! All the best to Coconut Creek, I highly recommend them.
