A very attractive small hotel. Lovely colourful gardens surround two pool, a larger one and a smaller one half of which is a large jacuzzi. Six rooms overlook the pools. Ours was a triple room with a king bed with TV, fridge a/c, good WiFi , spotlessly clean, white fluffy bath towels and separate pool towels.
Breakfast was fine. Scrambled eggs, toast with jam or cheese, fruit, tea or cofffee and juice.

With the end of high season evening meals were no longer available but there are a couple of really nice places 3km away or at the beach 10km.

This place was really nice. A beautiful property, gardens and pool area. Also a nice view from the deck of the surrounding hills. The owners were very nice and gave us a perfect breakfast in the morning. The room was big with decent water pressure, a mini fridge, cold and quiet AC. I would definitely recommend this place. Good value for money.

Perfection! Spaceous accomodation in privite😍 Everything was so clean and very well taken care of! We adored two bedrooms with so comfy bedsheets 💙 Common bathroom equipped with shower and bath tub. Large balcony accessible from both bedrooms. Loved the place, I wish I could move in. Everyone so helpful and friendly. Place was “soaked” by love of both of the hosts for what they do. Our best experience in Panama 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

Staying here during our Mission Trip and I have absolutely fell in love. The grounds are very well kept, rooms are very spacious and the food is out of this world!!!! The best Italian food ever! So good that I told my husband we were going to have to come back 😊 The owners are very nice people and want to make sure you feel welcome. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed here 2 nights passing through from Bocas del Torro to Panama City. A lovely place, where you can eat perfectly, both dinner and breakfast and beautiful clean apartments. Also the surroundings, especially the beaches are beautiful. We can recommend it to everyone.

We stayed one night back from Bocas to cut the road. The hotel park is beautiful , very well maintained . The rooms are quite spacious, rather clean and well maintained also. We just had a strong smell of cat urine on the carpet of the terrace.
Breakfast is very good and hearty. The owners are very friendly

We stayed in 2015. Was advertised with a pool but it was under construction. Too much food which bloated us. Had a heavy earthquake and no owner came to check if we were ok.
The bungalows opposite look nice and the food there was great.

What a nice place! 10 minutes from the beach by car/ bus.
The hotel has a beautifull well kept garden and some nice bungalows arround a great pool and jacuzzi.
The owners are very nice and are passioned with their hotel, garden and food
You can have diner, perfect Italian cuisine (portions are a little bit too big in my opinion, but the taste and quallity is great!

On walking distance there is a little shop, and 2 other restaurants. In 1,5 kilomters there are some other supermercados.

For us it was a more nice place than a hotel near Las Lajas beach, because of the quiet garden and beautifull oase!

Thanx Romana and Paolo

I really wish there was a way to make sure that reviews are real on this site. We read positive reviews about Residence Las Lajas so booked for 1 night to break the drive between Bocas and Panama. They must have been written by the owner or their friends. The place did not warrant the positive reviews and in my opinion was a nightmare.

Upon arrival, we were told that the credit card terminal did not work. In other words they wanted to be paid in cash - was it so that they didn’t have to declare the income or pay the credit card processing fees? Instead I would have to pay about $5 for ATM fees to get cash. She said she’d sent a message through booking.com but I hadn’t checked since I left home - and that was 2 weeks earlier. More than enough time to get a terminal “fixed or replaced” in my opinion, if that was the real reason. She went on giving us detailed directions of every ATM in the area because she said we may not be able to get $100 from a single machine.

So we went out and got her $100 but really didn’t want to pay another $5 ATM fee just to pay her the remaining $2.05. I had $1.10 in change in my purse and instead of saying ‘forget the $1.05’ she insisted that I go out and get it. Luckily my husband found $1.25 so I gave that to her. (Of course she didn’t give me back the .15 change!). And of course, no invoice or receipt was provided. No receipt for cash no need to declare the income!

The reception and restaurant is reminiscent of a really bad 1950’s North American truck stop. It filled me with dread for what was awaiting us.

Onwards to the room, which we got to through a pebble path and dried out grass. Hose pipes were lying around but I guess no one uses them to water the grass or plants. Good view of the hills though!

There are a few small rooms located around a pool and jacuzzi, which looked new.

Firstly, the door to our room could not lock from the inside (it’s not that the lock wouldn’t work - there was simply no lock) so we had to push our suitcases in front to prevent anyone from breaking in.

The AC did a mediocre job of keeping the room cool. The temp in the area was 34 and very humid and AC is a necessity.

The bathroom door would not stay closed so we stopped trying. No privacy using the toilet or shower here!

The beds are cheap rickety beds. Probably cost them next to nothing. Even with the extra reinforcement that they had added to the centre of each bed, they seemed to move with every breath and we feared that they would collapse.

The sheets were cheap polyester not cotton so in addition to the heat and poor AC, the sheets made us sweat. A very uncomfortable night was had by all.

The curtains were threadbare and see-through, so some of us refused to change clothes and slept in our jeans. (Remember the door wouldn’t lock on the bathroom either).

The floor had not been swept properly because we found a pile of hair and bits of broken hose pipe under the bed. There was writing on the walls. The flooring was a hodge-podge of tiles left over from renovations throughout the complex.

Love the sounds of nature? Well, lots of that here. We were woken up by roosters cock-a-doodle-dooing and donkeys hee-hawing at 4 in the morning. And they didn’t stop until we left at 8am. Then then at 5am, an alarm clock went off somewhere nearby. Around 6am, we started to hear tapping from the room next door - as we were leaving, we found out that guys are working on decorating that room.

Breakfast was decent. Fresh bananas and watermelon, toast, eggs, jam, coffee and juice.

Las Lajas itself is a dive. Maybe in about 10 years it may be a nice place to be and spend time at the beach, but right now, it’s run down and low class. It may be cheaper to stay than some other areas but so are the amenities.
