This is a lovely property but quirky. The reception and restaurant/bar is a 10+ minutes walk from the hotel rooms and pool. The hotel bar is exception offering amazing views. The rooms are unique and situated above the little town perched on the hill. The...More
I and a large group of family and friends booked a stay at Raya this past August, anticipating a luxurious stay at one of the top resorts in the Aeolian islands. What we got was very different.

We were here last year and it was amazing which makes it all the more disappointing that the service is so terrible this year.
We invited all of our friends to join us and Raya let us down in every way. The hotel left us...More
Best hotel on Panarea. Every element is unique and the setting is stunning. The expansive hotel grounds are covered in flowering well-kept plants, rooms have an elegant eastern flare, the restaurant is excellent, staff are friendly, and the sea water and geothermal pools are incredible....More
We spent several days relaxing in and exploring Panarea while staying at Hotel Raya. Beautiful room and beautiful pool. We rose early to watch the sunrise from our secluded patio. Very happy people for staying here.

I do not think it means anything special. The hotel have a long history. The owner, Miriam's now dead husbond, build it, I think in the early 70'. They have some connections with Bali, anyways, it was very famous and very high class back then. The waitress'es, all very beautifull, worked topless and only with a bali sarong around their waist. I´ve worked there one summer, 1998, and I think they still survive living on there old reputation and of cause the beautifull setting. I´d just read the review that people have been writing about the hotel, and it´s for sure the quality doesn't equals the price. Is it a 4 or even a 5 star hotel? Well, another hotel would for sure had closed a long time ago if they had offered the same standard for that price. Therefor Im saying that they are living on there old reputations, if they had a heart in this projekt, they would have cuddled it and cured it. ;)
