The Southern Palms Beach Club is often celebrated for its vibrant live music and cozy atmosphere, although a handful of guests suggest bringing earplugs due to occasional noise. Nestled on the beachfront near The Gap, the location offers stunning beaches, despite occasional seaweed.
While the clean, albeit dated rooms charm some visitors, others feel a modern update is due. The hotel's cleanliness and friendly staff consistently impress, but opinions on value vary, with some guests questioning the room sizes and outdated amenities in light of the cost.

Detailed Reviews
Just returned from the most amazing stay at this fabulous hotel. The hotel is ideally situated on Dover beach in the centre of st Lawrence gap. I would firstly like to recognise the staff who do an amazing job always with a smile on their face. Ken the bar waiter made my birthday celebrations memorable by going over and above with his actions he is an asset to the hotel. I water sports / maintenance guy worked tirelessly always with a smile on his face making sure the pool and beach area were pristine. The room although a little dated was spotlessly clean and serviced everyday to a high standard. The uninterrupted views across the clean sand and water made seeing the turtles that live just in front the hotel an amazing experience. The breakfast and lunch served at the restaurant was exceptional and good value for money served with an amazing vibe making the experience more enjoyable. Sundays steel band was a great experience and made relaxing by the water even more perfect.

Just spent a lovely week at Southern Palms, excellent location you literally step out onto the beach , also very close to the bars and restaurants along St Lawrence Gap. The hotel staff are friendly and professional always service with a smile, the rooms were very good, comfortable, clean and quite spacious. The selection of food and drinks on offer was excellent and good value. Entertainment was included on specific evenings and Sunday lunch time, there is a lovely atmosphere at this hotel. Concierge were available to assist with booking trips, taxis etc. We had stayed at a 5* hotel on a previous visit to Barbados, however, we actually preferred our stay at Southern Palms, it offers everything we needed at a much more competitive cost. On the evenings where entertainment is not provided, there are plenty of other options within the locality. Special mention to Ken who excels in customer service, In fact all staff are courteous and offer outstanding service. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a more authentic holiday experience.

Recently returned from this hotel, we stayed in an oceanview room on a bed and breakfast basis. The room was spacious with 2 double beds and plenty of storage and a balcony overlooking the beach. The bathroom was a little dated but perfectly adequate. The rooms and bathrooms could both do with updating.
The breakfast buffet was great, cooked breakfast, fruits, yoghurts, cereal, croissants and toast. The all day menu served from lunchtime was also good. However, the buffet meals in the evening I thought was very overpriced. We had the bbq buffet and thought it was very poor value and they run out of chicken.
Complementary afternoon tea and cakes were served every day by the small pool and we also attended the Managers Cocktail Drinks on a Monday.
The beach was superb, but if you wanted a sunbed under the palms then you had to get up incredibly early. However there were always plenty of sunbeds available.
We were very lucky to see turtles hatching on the beach one day, a truly magical experience. You could also see fire flies in the palm trees on the beach in the evening.
Southern Palms was in a quieter position on the gap and within easy reach of restaurants for an evening meal. We did find that Barbados was very expensive, however we had researched and were prepared for this.
Would recommend Southern Palms and hope to return.

Great resort with a superb location and lovely staff. We had a great week at this resort and wish we had booked for two. First lets cover the only negative, the rooms are a little dated however its a really small price to pay for the very many positives. This resort is in a great location with fabulous staff all of whom go about their work with great humour and big smiles. Our room 205 had a great sea view with a small and private swimming pool in front. The General manager Kelly stopped to chat and ask if we were enjoying ourselves and invited us to attend a rum punch reception, this gave us the chance to chat to the other guests staying at Southern Palms. All in all a great place to stay and we look forward to returning for a longer period in the future. A special mention to Jenni on reception , she was a fountain of local knowledge and very helpful during our stay.

The location of this hotel is perfect, long white sand beach, plenty of bars and restaurants nearby but the rooms are quiet. We had breakfast every day and several lunches and dinners in the restaurant all were delicious and tasty, I especially liked the coleslaw and had extra portions. We were lucky enough to see turtles hatching on the beach one day (125 we were told) which were collected by the authority to be looked after and then put in the sea.You didn’t have to go far into the sea to watch the turtles they could also be seen from the beach.
Staff at the Southern Palms work really hard to make your stay memorable and enjoyable, special mention to Ken who kept us cool with jugs of ice water on the beach and Chanel who served rum punches during a very happy happy hour.
We will definitely return to the Southern Palms, we really enjoyed our stay.

We just came home to cold Canada from warm Barbados. I cannot tell you how many times we have stayed at Southern Palms (probably over 25). This is not the fanciest of hotels on the island but it is oh so cozy, and comfortable. From the moment we arrive and see that view over the pool to the ocean all our troubles disappear. The staff that work here from reception, (Stephen, Jenni, Carolyn, Richard), to the bar staff (June in particular), to the wait staff (too numerous), to Rodney who looks after the pools, the beach, the chairs, the ponds, and especially Britta the General Manager are all to be commended to keeping the charm alive at Southern Palms.
We eat quite a few times at the restaurant for breakfast and there is no need to go across the street as the quality is excellent, the selection is great and the pricing very competitive.
Lunches at the bar were equally impressive; great selection.
We always enjoy our happy hour around the pool with other guests we meet while here.
The entertainment at Southern Palms is consistently good with the steel band on Thursdays and Sundays; Kathy Anne on Saturday nights and the Redmen on Monday evenings after the Managers Rum Punch party.
While the rooms for some may seem outdated but that is what makes Southern Palms the cozy, comfortable home away from home it is.
It cannot be beat from everything I have mentioned above plus the fact that every room has a view of Dover Beach which is literally 50 feet from your door.
We had an extra special surprise in that Britta invited us to a Loyal Visitor function that was being held at the Prime Ministers residence. There were 10 others from Southern Palms also invited to the party and it was so nice to be invited; thank you Britta for the recognition.
Someone mentioned that Southern Palms has about an 85% return visitor and we are proud to keep coming back.

Built in 1981, not really updated in our first room, moved to another with space to store our clothes at a cost of £300. Most facilities are completely open air on ground floor, staff are great. Local taxis don’t like you keep walking past them, St. Lawrence Gap the area we stayed a number of cafes, shops and eating/drinking places were not open all day every day. It’s dim walking at night, it does become lively on Fridays and Saturdays. Bridgetown is very downmarket. Immigration staff at the airport not friendly. Will never go back.

Ok. Virgin list this as 4 star. It’s a 3, 3.5 star. BUT, it is excellent!
The beach.
Powder white sands. Some waves which may not be suitable for small children but really not bad. You WILL see turtles in the sea! I snorkelled all over, but this is my first time with turtles. Unbelievable!! Also saw a couple of baby turtles making the first journey to the sea! Incredible!! Loss of beds and palm trees for shade.
Pools.
1 main and 1 smaller. The smaller one is deeper. Never struggled for sunloungers around any pool area. Lovely and clean, so refreshing!
Rooms.
We stayed 203. Great view of ocean, looking at the layout, think pretty much every room would have a stunning view! Air con fab. Issue with bath plug which was sorted as soon as reported! Fresh towels as required and cleaned daily! Little fridge and kettle/ cups.
Restaurant.
Never ate there, wanted to eat out. But, always busy, smelt great! Not sure on prices though…Happy days is a 30 second walk.
Overall.
Would defo return here. There appears to be a lot of repeat visitors which tells you everything!
Tips.
Bring tea/ coffee/ chocolate etc for room as expensive.
Ask for a jug of iced water/cups from restaurant bar. It’s free, and it’s a nice refresher!
Pink beach towels- change near mini golf or ask reception.
4pm near small pool-free tea/coffee and cakes.
Use the local transport . 3.50BBD each way per person. We used to go to Bridgetown and Brownes beach (go it this beach!!).
Catamaran was $30US each for 90 mins. Turtles/shipwrecks and rum!

We just had the best time at the southern palms beach club! Our room was lovely and the beach is absolutely stunning and we never got bored of watching the turtles play in the waves.
The staff were absolutely lovely and we especially wanted to thank Steven on reception who went above and beyond to rectify a problem with our PCR tests - an issue which was the lab’s fault not ours or the hotels.
Linda was so cheerful and wonderful serving breakfast in the mornings and always made us smile!
We stayed half board and the food and drinks were delicious, we can’t wait to come back again one day!

Yes, No balcony's and limited view .
If you can afford to splash out, then I would do an ocean front. They are great.
It’s amazing how many turtles there are right there off the beach. We swam no less with 7 to 10 turtles an each day!
