The Southern Palms Beach Club is often celebrated for its vibrant live music and cozy atmosphere, although a handful of guests suggest bringing earplugs due to occasional noise. Nestled on the beachfront near The Gap, the location offers stunning beaches, despite occasional seaweed.
While the clean, albeit dated rooms charm some visitors, others feel a modern update is due. The hotel's cleanliness and friendly staff consistently impress, but opinions on value vary, with some guests questioning the room sizes and outdated amenities in light of the cost.

What can I say about this Gem of a hotel, its a beautiful pink pearl, with a beautiful beach lined with palm trees, and Turtles swimming in the sea, in fact we swam with the Turtles day after day, and watched the hatchlings run along the beach, they were picked up and sent away until they are old enough to fend for themselves.
The main thing that makes this Hotel exceptional are the staff, everyone and I do mean EVERYONE make you feel welcome, are friendly, and work hard to make sure that your holiday is a happy one, from the front desk staff to the cleaning staff nothing was too much trouble for anyone.
The restaurant, again the staff in here are exceptional, was reasonably priced, and the food was quality, the pancakes are the best ive ever tasted, on Saturday , on thursday and Sunday afternoon there was a steel band which was great fun we were dancing in the swimming pool.
There are 2 heated swimming pools, a tennis court, an outside Gym, a mini golf course, and a shuffle board court. There are water sports too.
The other guests are all as friendly as the staff, we met some wonderful people, and there are alot of repeat guests, and to be honest I don't blame them.
This hotel is very reasonably priced, spotlessly clean, and from the moment you step onto the property until the moment you leave you are made to feel like a member of the Southern palms family.
We spent our honeymoon here and we would both like to say a massive thank you to all the staff for making it a fantastic one, and the bottle of champagne was a nice touch. I would highly recommend this hotel as its the best we've ever stayed in, we will be back soon.

Pros:
AMAZING location. Hotel is right on the beach with plenty of sun loungers and palm trees for shade. A 5 minute walk from St Lawrence Gap with lots of restaurants and places to get a drink.
Sea turtles were swimming in the ocean daily. You’re basically guaranteed to see them which is incredible.
The most friendly staff (most of them). Aside from a few of the reception staff and one bartender, the staff were so friendly and helpful.
Large choice of food and drinks served throughout the day including free iced water available by the pool to help yourself.
The room was comfortable and spacious.
Cons:
Wifi. There is none! Very, very limited, sporadic wifi available both in the room and in the restaurant/by the pool. Often the best wifi signal was on the beach but even that was very limited.
The room we stayed in was very dark. Impossible to use the mirrors in the bedroom to do hair and make up for example. The shower also takes a long time to either heat up or cool down which seems like a waste of water.
To use the safe in your room you have to pay per day which I have never experienced before. There are free safety deposit boxes at reception but to save yourself the inconvenience of having to visit reception each time, you are charged daily.
Overall I would definitely stay here again but would be prepared for the limitations of the hotel that I wasn’t necessarily expecting this time around.

My family and a friends family booked the family rooms at Southern Palms. We were underwhelmed on arrival, there was no ‘welcome to the hotel’ comment from the lady checking us in, she was quite miserable as were quite a few members of staff in the hotel, many of the bar staff made you feel like you were an inconvenience when you asked for a drink. Not quite the happy go lucky vibe that you’d expect on holiday.
This was not the main issue by any stretch of the imagination. Both families booked family rooms which happen to be next to the car park, very close to the main road, opposite a karaoke bar. There was loud noise from the bars and many roaming noisy roosters literally all night were heard due to the proximity of the block and poor insulation/standard of the rooms. The rooms were very tired with big gaps around the door, a bathroom window that doesn’t close resulting in feeling like you are sleeping outside. We made a complaint to the deputy manager after the first night who advised that it would be 1250 dollars to move rooms for remaining 8 nights, we tried to get assistance from Travel Republic who failed to respond, after 4 sleepless nights and us all ending up feeling dreadful, the hotel director arranged for us to be relocated to a better room in a different part of the hotel but we had to pay 500 dollars per family to be able to sleep for the 2nd half of our holiday.
It was suggested that we maybe we were sensitive to noise, we are definitely not… those family rooms were the worst we’ve ever stayed in, they are not fit for purpose, I wouldn’t give them 1 star, it really tainted the holiday experience. I Strongly advise that the family rooms (situated in the cheap looking block) in the hotel are avoided at all cost!
Pictures attached show the block (maybe the rooms that aren’t on the car park aren’t as affected by noise). The main hotel/ pictures don’t show this block.
The upgraded room in a different part of the hotel was very nice and spacious (exactly as shown on website). The main hotel and grounds are very pretty, walking along Dover Beach Southern Palms looks to be one of the nicest hotels but we didn’t venture beyond the shore line to see if that was the case.

The Southern Palms is over priced for what it offers.
The pro’s - Great location and the beach is gorgeous, we saw turtles swimming in the sea and the sea can be quite surfy. The room was ok with a nice view of the pool & sea. Richard was lovely and very helpful also the pool guy was very friendly and never stopped working. Breakfast was the best meal and service of the day.
Cons - Was shocked we had to pay a daily rate to use the safe in the room. When we arrived it didn’t feel like a nice warm welcome just a list of charges and instructions. I didn’t find most of the staff that friendly and especially the reception staff and supervisors who let you in the restaurant.
We had breakfast & evening meal as part of our package and I would say the choice was very limited and definitely over priced.
The Wi-Fi was terrible in our room. Also when we stayed there most of the guests were of an older generation so if you are of an older generation it would suit you perfectly and I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way, as the entertainment is catered for you.
Also our room was very noisy at night with music coming from across the road. Also on the weekend cars racing up and down like it was in the movie fast & furious.
Overall I would say very over priced but great location, no issues at all with the room.
I wouldn’t stay there again or recommend to my family or friends.
Definitely didn’t offer the service I have received in other Caribbean islands.

This was our 3rd stay at the Southern Palms. Made even more special this time as we got engaged on our balcony the day after we arrived.
We had a garden view room which suited us just fine, we could see the pool and see the sea and hear the waves from our bed, a sound I love, along with the whistling frogs. We love the size of the bed in the room, it’s huge, also the choice of pillows is good.
We had a fridge and kettle on our enormous balcony, which suited us just fine to make a cuppa in the morning and keep snacks and drinks cool.
We attended the managers rum punch party just an hour after the proposal, on our return from dinner, we had a lovely bottle of Prosecco on ice in our room with a congratulations card from the team at Southern Palms.
We ate lunch in the bar a couple of tImes.
We found the happy hour service incredibly slow, so much so that we didn’t bother after a couple of nights. There was one evening, we were completely overlooked with service and people who came in and sat the bar after we had arrived were served immediately.
The location of the hotel is amazing, the beach is beautiful as are the hotel grounds. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance either way out of the hotel, with The Gap also very nearby.
The cleaning staff were very friendly, doing a great job with our room, most of the hotel staff were very friendly
Whilst we were there a trip to the races was laid on free of charge by the hotel as the south coast hotels were sponsoring the race day, what a fabulous day out that was.
We hope to return one day soon

The Southern Palms Hotel is a charming hotel with a high standard of service. Packed with character and situated on position 1 on Dover Beach. Sea view from our room is exceptional. The rooms are spacious for a family to share and the housekeeping staff ensure your room is perfect each day. There is an abundance of sun loungers and lots of personal space either beneath the palm trees or around the pool. The staff here work incredibly hard to ensure you have everything you may need from a fresh beach towel each day to serving you a cocktail under the palm trees. The breakfast is delicious and restaurant spotless. All in all this is a superb hotel for families and we would highly recommend the Southern Palms Beach Club.

Thr best beach, what used to be a great hotel is going downhill.
We are repeat guests for many years like many that stay here. However, the hotel is just disappointing now.
If you want wifi then you won’t get it often,. Many guests here have complained so it’s not just me. Nothing ever seems to be done to improve it. The hotel says it has improved but no change especially if you want to sit in your room or balcony at night…you won’t get wifi. Adjacent hotels have great wifi.
Also some of the staff seem to just be unhappy and you feel like you’re putting them out all the time.
Though there are some top staff so I am generalising.
The rooms continue to be dated and need improving. The all day menu hasn’t changed in years.
Southern Palms is in a great location on the gap and totally an amazing beach and has so much potential but we won’t be staying again.
It’s a shame that any issues with air con, water, wifi etc are just treated like we are inconveniencing staff and not valued as repeat customers.
The owners need to seriously look at changing the hotel and improving basic facilities as there is good competition on Barbados that they are now losing guests to.
It’s not a cheap hotel either so I would suggest look around

We stayed for a week, our first foreign holiday for a few years and the views didn’t disappoint. The hotel sits on Dover Beach, which is one of the nicest in the island that we saw. The beach never felt too busy and sun beds easy to come by. Views of the palms, sea and sunset was just what was needed.
The breakfast was also really good, with a good buffet selection and an a la carte menu. Free use of body boards is also a plus.
The staff were really good. We were given a bottle of fizz when we mentioned it was a special occasion and they also accommodated us when we weren’t happy with our original room.
Our room felt a little dated but reasonable given the price paid. Should be noted that some of the rooms, including ours, back on to the main strip of St Lawrence Gap. This meant every night of the week there is loud music in the room until 10-11pm. As a couple we could cope with this but might be a problem for people with young kids.

Our ocean view room was within 10 steps of the beach. The room was cool and well kept. The bar is a great place to sit especially during happy hour from 6 until 7pm. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant.
The room faced out on to a white sandy beach with coconut palms and beautiful turquoise and blue sea beyond. You can see wht people keep coming back

We stayed at Southern Palms Beach Club for a week after Christmas, me, my husband, and our teenage twins. Everything was perfect, we had such a relaxing time, the beach was lovely and clean, with enough sunbeds for everyone, the sea was quite rough, which the teens really enjoyed but it wouldn't be suitable for little ones (I don't know if it is calmer other times of the year) we didn't use the pool but it looked very clean and well kept, we were on a room only package, we ate in the hotel restaurant our first night, the food was very good indeed, the next morning we went for the buffet breakfast in the Hotel, there was a lot of choice but it was nothing special, and we found it to be over priced for what you got, so we had breakfast across the road after that. Our room was overlooking the pool and sea, it was on two levels, with our bedroom and the bathroom on the top floor, downstairs was a kitchenette, dining table and chairs, settee and tv, one of the twins slept on the settee bed and we had an extra bed put in for the other one, even with the settee bed down and the extra bed there was still plenty of room. The room wasn't spotless but clean enough and as we only slept there it didn't really matter.
I almost forgot to mention the Turtles, they are so lovely to see, everyday they were there swimming with us in the sea.

Yes, No balcony's and limited view .
If you can afford to splash out, then I would do an ocean front. They are great.
It’s amazing how many turtles there are right there off the beach. We swam no less with 7 to 10 turtles an each day!
