My family and I spent one night (June 2) with an extended day stay (until 6.30pm) on June 3 before our scheduled flight back to Manila.

Reservations were done over the phone and our check-in was smooth. Ellie, the person I spoke with was accommodating and promised to give a discount since we were previous guests from Microtel Boracay.

Upon arrival at Kalibo, it was raining and it would have been better if the guard or the staff stationed by the gate helped us carry our luggage. More customer service skills training is needed.

We were warmly greeted by Ellie at the front desk, given a key to a deluxe room so the kids can immediately rest while I settled the bill.

At first glance, the facade was nicely designed. The room was spacious, the bathroom was working, water pressure alright, LCD tv with cable channels mounted on the wall, super cold aircon, toiletries provided, everything you saw in their website was there. However, there were no windows facing the hallway! The only windows in the room were in the bathroom for ventilation, and in the lavatory area which was not large enough to bring in extra light from outside. The room was nicely designed, but looked dreary because it relied on indoor lighting. :(

Although it was raining, we wanted to make the most out of our stay at Kalibo so we asked the housekeeping and security staff who happened to pass by the hallway for recommendations on places to visit. They had no idea! The next morning, after searching the internet, we asked whether the bak-awan nature park was near, they couldn't say either. They were not aware of it, according to them. Quite weird considering that the owner of the hotel also operates South West Tours. Carol from the front desk was the only person who answered that the place we were looking for was only 10-15 minutes away from the hotel. I suggest that more training on tourist sites be given to the staff to help make Kalibo a tourist destination.

Also, for a hotel priced relatively high compared to other establishments in the area, they may want to put in complementary coffee or tea, cups for coffee drinkers, and the proper utensils. Quite frustrating to ask for these only to hear them say that they don't have those on hand. Complementary breakfast would be great too since most hotels with their price range include it.

Other amenities -- Wifi signal was weak in our room so I used my data plan instead. The pool area is large except that it needs markers so you know how deep it was. There was no lifeguard around so it would be better if there was. I think the shallowest part of the pool was around four feet since my kid and I tried to take a dip. Not a child friendly pool.

Overall, experience was okay but it would be better if more trainings were given to the staff, more thought given on complementary things like coffee or tea, etc.

I was very excited to stay in this hotel and spend my honeymoon. We are staying only one night before we head off to Boracay. I called from overseas and sent email to hotel a couple of times to inform them of my intention to stay there for honeymoon. As we reached the hotel, we were given a room with twin beds (two separate beds!) i expressed my disappointment but front desk staff could not move us to any other room because they are fully booked leaving us with no choice but to take the twin beds. I wonder what happened to the calls and emails that i have sent.

The staff greets guest everytime which is really nice but the wrong roomtype given had already ruined the stay. I dont think we have received proper apologies for the inconvenience but was just told that they are booked out. Too bad as i was really excited to enjoy this hotel.

We stayed here because I just wanted to get out of the house, (we're locals) and book a hotel with a pool so we can swim but we were very disappointed. The swimming pool had those black worms (I took a photo of it) so instead of swimming in the pool, I ended up just sitting in the pool with my feet on the floor. And there were also this bugs that bite you in the pool which where so itchy.

On top of that, there were only 2 pillows on the bed so if you are travelling as a couple, you are gonna have to pay an extra 50 pesos for an extra pillow.

And the weirdest thing of all, this is literally the only hotel I have ever been my entire life that did not serve coffee in the morning. I asked the receptionist if they had coffee or something and they told me they did not have coffee.

The only thing I would say is acceptable was the cleanliness of the room. They have clean rooms and it smells good specially when you enter the room for the first time.

i don't know how it can be so high rated. it doesnt diserve 3 stars, max 1 or 2.

first the "clean towels" in our room were full of stains, and smelled bad like someone wipe ass and never changed.

the room smelled of mold and bad like wasnt open for months, took over 4 hours get stench away

the window wooden curtain was broke

the cr door was missing a lock and cr itself was very small, for a foreigner barely place to sit, hardly to up and wipe.

walls paper thin, hard sleep hearing whtever neighbours were doing.

dozens of moskitos inside passing by air vents...

horrible wifi signal, very slow and unstable at building 1 room 112.

shower head was dirty and half it holes were stuck reducing water stream to a cat piss.

never to stay again

only good thing was the aircon and hot water + good beds

Stayed only one night thank God. This hotel is very outdated and getting old, not maintenance. The room was not clean very well and had a bit of an old smell. Would not stay again. The staff are very nice but unfortunately the hotel has gone down hill.

I am posting this review only now because I want to be as objective as possible, having felt anger at what Marzon did, or rather, failed to do.

On January 20, 2012, I sent a reservation request for a standard room (P1,680.00) through their website. 3 days later or on January 23, 2012, I got a reply from the reservations officer, Karol Flores, asking that I fill the booking form and e-mail it back with the scanned deposit slip showing deposit of at least 50% of the total room charge.

On February 2, 2012, I sent a scanned copy of the booking form and deposit slip for P1,000.00. Although they required only a 50% downpayment, I thought I’d just advance the remainder considering that I’m still going to pay the balance when we check-in anyway.

Unfortunately, on February 4, 2012, I received an e-mail from UAP or Unreliable Air Philippines that they changed my flight schedule to a time that meant I cannot travel for my appointment anymore. A day after, Marzon Hotel, still through reservations officer Karol Flores, e-mailed to acknowledge receipt of the booking form and the deposit slip.

After many e-mail exchanges with UAP, all to no avail, I e-mailed Marzon Hotel on February 15, 2012 that I wished to cancel my booking and requested for a refund on my deposit, after charges and penalties are applied, if any. Getting no reply, I followed up on my request 10 days later or on February 25, 2012. I still got no reply. I also e-mailed one more time but again received no word from Marzon. In other words, while Marzon Hotel was quick to reply to my queries when I made my booking, it IGNORED my e-mails after I requested for a refund. I am very well aware of their cancellation policy which, in any case, save for being a no show, charges a maximum of 50% of the room charge. Any reply, whether one granting my request or denial thereof, would have sufficed. Ignoring a customer’s e-mails, however, is very unprofessional.

What we lost is a minimal amount but this goes as a warning for those considering booking at this hotel. Be very very careful.

I checked into this hotel after a day in boracay and I was impressed with it's cleanliness
modernization of wide room with wide flat screen TV, modern bathroom, additional
closet with mirrors and washroom. Nothing I found like this ( fourth time) in boracay.
Aside from these, it's 2-3 minutes drive and along the mainroad to the airport. The staffs
are very friendly, courteous and with great smiles to make you feel so comfortable. Glen
even went out to town to buy my Fundador (spanish brandy) and ice when I arrived. Then
I ordered late lunch plus dinner and here are 2 guys with great smiles, excellent room
service from their own hotel restaurant.
Cris at the desk is also very helpful at their internet trying to retrieve my ticket from
my email-kalibo to manila. Did not charge me anything. I stayed at room 11 with 2
single beds. They took out that small table in between and joined them together and
I enjoyed watching UFC on balls with luxury.
I am even thinking now that on my next trip to boracay, I go to kalibo first and stay at this
hotel, go early a.m. to caticlan by van ( 100 pesos) one hour and a half ride then come
back to kalibo that afternoon and enjoy the luxury of my stay. Believe me, those 5 to 7
thousand pesos boracay hotels per night is compared to this hotel (if not better) which is 1,650 php but I only paid 1,344 cuz I'm a senior citizen.
I'm a frequent traveler (my trips are already lined up up to december 2011) and don't
usually give reviews unless I found a deserving one. I highly recommend this Marzon
hotel when you are travelling to boracay. Like the saying goes...it's only a heartbeat away.
Also, I did not forget you..Julius, you are also very pleasant and accomodating. See you
again in June.
