Travelers' Choice
Built in 1818, our much-loved country house, the epitome of Georgian splendour, has been lovingly restored over the years, including a wealth of exquisite craftsmanship, including fine wood panelling and a grand handmade staircase. Old stone fireplaces, classic leather armchairs, elegant sitting rooms, grandfather clocks – the sense of a grand but homely residence pervades. Conveniently accessible from the A1 and as Northumberland’s only four AA red star awarded hotel, in recent years it’s become very much a destination in its own right. We have 36 handsomely appointed bedrooms, elegant lounges and a fabulous spa, swimming pool and gym, making Doxford the ideal place to unwind after exploring the delights of Northumbria. Add to this the award-winning dining in our George Runciman restaurant, the yew maze and acres of landscaped gardens to explore and everything’s in place for a relaxing and memorable stay.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Doxford Hall and we are really disappointed. Some elements of the hotel are good, such as the food and the staff but the hotel itself is in dire need of a complete refurbishment. Our room had a huge stain on seat at the end of the bed, there was mildew in the walk in shower, mold on the windows and the cleaning was a lot to be desired. Also, there was a huge water leak from the ceiling in the lobby leading to the spa which looked as though it had been there for some time. Externally, many of the paths need to have the moss removed as they were really slippy and, as mentioned before, the pot hole situation is diabolical. We wouldn't return to the hotel in it's current state and as the hotel is up for sale, I can't see any improvements anytime soon.

We have just returned from yet another great stay at Doxford Hall. We have little to add to our previous very positive reviews of this Hotel. Once again, we had a lovely room overlooking the beautiful hotel grounds, a very relaxing time in the tranquil spa, and very enjoyable food in the magnificent George Runciman Restaurant, together with pre-dinner drinks in the relaxing Morning Room. As usual, the staff showed a great blend of professionalism and friendliness. They did everything in their power to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Thank you so much for that. We are looking forward to seeing you all again soon

Excellent hotel and brilliant personnel. Only small shortcoming was the room although valeted each day clearly was not vacuumed each day. Also the bath was high sided making using the shower perilous without handles or bathmat.

Myself and husband went for the spa deal which included a 2 course lunch. Having read a bad review about the spa and their lunch i was rather wary. However contrary to what i had read the spa area was lovely ,very clean. Loungers were comfortable. Pool was clear as glass, a lovely warm temperature and we were able to get some swimming in. My husband did the sauna and steam room which he reported as fine ,clean . The jacuzzi was lovely temperature. I will say the steps up to it could be refurbed but that is all. We were able to make tea/coffee in a nearby area and return to poolside or a relaxation room which was very quiet with chill out vibes! Changing area was fine ,a pound needed for locker. Lunch was fab. Tomatoe n sweet pepper soup and duck pate starter both very good, soup hot and good portion size. Mains , chicken supreme was delicious, the chicken melted in your mouth, very tender. Hubby had salmon ,not overcooked and again delicious. Finished with a sticky toffee pudding that we paid extra for between us. It was the best! We finiahed off with a coffee in the lounge area. No complaints about anything. All staff were friendly. Hotel is lovely and everywhere looked clean. We will return.

Absolutely excellent. Staff excellent. Lovely grounds. And the spa was quiet and warm. Great choice for breakfast and not the usual buffet where the food is at best lukewarm. The dinner spend allocation was more than sufficient.

Went for after noon tea at Doxford Hall on 13th March 2024. Food was delicious and plentiful and well presented. My wife is Coeliac and has to eat gluten free food. The hotel catered for her perfectly. She thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. All of the staff we encountered were extremely helpful and looked after us very well. I have to admit that I left a small part of my last cream tea bun, just could not squeeze it in. However we were provided with " doggie" baskets so we could take the rest of remaining food home with us. Lovely hotel in equally lovely surroundings, You can combine the tea with a spa and leisure treatment for an even better experience. Many thanks to all the staff at Doxford Hall. Mr and Mrs Birnie

We needed somewhere to stay close to Doxford Barns for a family wedding. We found Doxford Hall by its website and also a family member told us about it. We booked a winter warmer 2 night break which was perfect for us as it included dinner on the first night, the second night we were at the wedding. The staff were friendly and attentive and very helpful in remembering we were dining with our daughter and son in law at night and at breakfast.

A lovely drive up from Yorkshire with a run on the beach (for the dog) at Low Newton. Then on to this impressive country estate where you can feast your eyes on this lovely building with impressive ceiling huge hand crafted hardwood doors and staircases. A lot has been recently refurbished to a very high standard. The staff were fabulous and very helpful. The pool is lovely and has sauna, steam and jacuzzi. Whats more, it's dog friendley and the exetensive grounds house holiday apartments walks and a maze. Finally the breakfast starting with fresh fruits yogurt etc. At first the Englsh Breakfast looked a bit bland but it was cooked to perfection, a crispy hashbrown, wonderful soft black pudding and the mushroom was packed with flavour with a runny egg and toast 10/10. We loved it and will definitely return.
