Last hotel stop before going back to Dumaguete, after staying on the island for 10 days. I cannot commend enough how excellent the service is, the lovely staff and the hands on owners who made sure we have everything we need. The serene beachside view, lovely dogs and of course the Japanese food. THANK YOU SO MUCH,MR HANADA for the warmest welcome! Highly recomemended hotel!

Great location, just by a sandy beach. The room was large, but it was quite hot and the ceiling fan did not work, instead we were provided with portable fans, but these are quite noisy. There is very good breakfast and the restaurant offers very good food, including Japanese. The staff was very helpful and have arranged for us a trip around the beautiful island and a transfer to the port. At the time of our visit wifi did not work at the rooms, only at the restaurant and its was very slow.

That's how they made me feel from the moment I arrived. Put me in an awful room that was nothing like the pictures on Booking.com. It was adjoining the staff quarters. When the staff got up before 6am, then I was up too. Worse there was no water for my bathroom. There was only 3/4 of a glass of red wine at dinner, they had run out. And the chicken they served was the cheapest cut possible. I have traveled SE Asia, stayed in homestays and been entertained in very poor people's houses and I can accept their way of life. But not this. Siquijor is a great island. West coast is good. East coast too. Pictures of staff quarters next to my room. Unimpressed.

Villa Marmarine offers comfortable rooms with wonderful ocean view and 7-star hospitality. The restaurant serves best Japanese cuisine in the Viscaya area, as well as local specialties and fresh local produce. The proprietor is Japanese with courteous Filipino staff, and so offers superior service and genuine gastronomic treats to a broad international clientele. The resort has its own dive shop and large boat that shares the pier with Coco Grove Beach Resort, so the set-up is excellent (Both provides transportation to the pier). The diving in Siquihol is superb and unspoiled. You can see Apo Island afar, so the rich underwater environment is no surprise. Schools of fish, some large turtles, barracuda and occasional dolphins. Motor bikes can be rented at the Villa too, providing convenient overland exploration. is also

We spent 4 nights at Villa Marmarine and it was a very relaxing time. The first two nights we had a really nice queen size bed and sea-view room, with the AC. For the last two nights, due to availability (we booked late), we moved into a cheaper 3-single-bed room. While it was definitely a lower standard (hostel feel), the price was fair and we even got a small discount on it. There are lovely homes / suites at the resort too so worth calling them to check the options. A great breakfast is included in the price of the room. Additionally, for stays over 2 nights there’s a free laundry service. There is a port drop off for the ferry rides (and they booked our tickets as well). The place offers a motorcycle rental at a good price (300 pesos, cheaper than in town). The restaurant serves very good, locally sourced food at affordable places. We had only one meal outside of the resort, because we really enjoyed it. The beach is right in the front. There are hammocks outside and a few beach chairs (although not directly on the beach). The water is nice, but there are rocks and plants so worth having water shoes. As everything on the island is close, there are better beaches for swimming. Usually we were the only people on this beach, which feels very peaceful. The highlight of our stay was the kind and accommodating staff. The resort runs a working student program where university age students learn how the resort runs and do all tasks, from check-in, serving food through house keeping. In general, this place is involved and supportive of the local community which we really appreciate. The owner is Japanese and very nice. The staff came to say goodbye to us at the end of our visit, which was really sweet.

The Villa Marmarine is one of those places where the whole is more than the sum of its parts. It’s a uniquely satisfying beach resort for folks who desire a low-key change of pace. The staff is eager to please, the restaurant never disappoints, and a fine beach is just steps from your cottage. You can sleep soundly, knowing that just by enjoying Villa Marmarine's hospitality you are helping to fund improvements at local schools and vocational training for local youth. Villa Marmarine is a happy blend of Japanese and Filipino ideas about relaxation. It realizes the vision of the Haradas, who after many years of teaching at schools abroad, set out to build a very special resort on the north shore of Siquijor Island. Neither too big or too small, low-key and friendly, distant from the buzz of motorbikes, the resort has grown cottage by comfortable cottage over the years. No two are alike; each is an exemplar of local craftsmanship. The guests during our five nights at Villa Marmarine were a diverse group. We mixed easily, encouraged, I think, by consistently positive vibes from the resort staff and random wi-fi outages. My wife and I particularly enjoyed our meals. The restaurant is on a deck with a fine view of the sea. Service is attentive, the food fresh, and the cooking (both Japanese and Filipino) excellent.

4 of us stayed at Marmarine over Christmas and had just such a lovely time. Daman and his team are the most friendly and lovely people and they welcomed us so warmly. We played tennis most days, and Daman organised a brilliant game of 'Gate ball' one evening (a kind of cross between croquet and golf). All felt so convivial and friendly! the resort is just beautiful - gorgeous green grounds, right next to a white sandy beach. We stayed in the Hero/Hifumi house which is beautifully designed and right by the sea. The food was super - we loved our Christmas dinner of sushi and coconut milkshakes! Went on a magical hunt for fireflies one evening and had a wonderful day out snorkelling too - just the 4 of us on our own boat with the crew who barbequed chicken out the back of the boat for lunch and led us to the best spots for tremendous snorkelling. Out of our 2 and a half week island hopping holiday, this is the place that will stay with me and that I would want to return to one day.

Yes, book at Villa Marmarine … IF … … you want peace and quiet, though our stay was disturbed a bit by construction on the property beside the resort. But that’s not the fault of the resort. … you don’t mind being away from where the “action” is. San Juan town is where the bars, restaurants and resorts are located one after the other, and is a 30 minute tricycle ride away for P250 each way (the sunset there is better). … you want to be just a few steps down to a clean beach with fine white sand mixed with corals and small rocks (so best to wear aqua socks) and clear water, though there’s not much by way of marine life (you need to take a boat for a snorkeling trip in a marine sanctuary - ask the resort for the schedule and price). It's a mid-length stretch of public beach but almost private since there are very few neighbors (as of the date of our stay). Compare to the beach on San Juan (the area of Infinity Sands, Baha Bar, etc.) which has trash and dog poop (from lots of stray dogs) on the beach, and seaweed (I guess it’s the time of the year that seaweed goes to that area). The resort has a lot of things going for it: very nice staff, onsite Japanese owners (so things run smoothly), clean rooms, reasonably priced food for a resort/hotel that’s mostly OK (best to stick to the Japanese and Filipino dishes), a rustic comfort feel except for the 2 most expensive rooms, Hero and Hifumi which are in a separate concrete structure (check the photos on their website). We stayed in Fuji room which had many of what we look for in a beach room/cottage: balcony facing the sea, hot and cold shower, TV, both airconditioning and ceiling fan coupled with screen doors and screened window on 2 sides so the windows and the sliding door to the balcony can be left open to let fresh air in (helped by the ceiling fan). BUT … there are many small things that need improvement specially with Fuji room and which add up to lessening the quality of the stay, hence, the 3 stars instead of the 4 stars I think it deserves. These are: – thin towels. We were originally provided with really thin, small bath towels that were almost translucent. We found out they have beach towels that are a bit thicker but are still on the small side and are frayed on the edges. -- thin and rough toilet paper. -- thin curtains that don’t provide any room darkening. Best to bring eye masks if you don’t want to be woken up by the sunlight early in the morning. -- no paper or cloth napkins in the restaurant. Just a wet face towel which is typical in Japanese restaurants. -- water in the shower has a rust smell. And the wall shows black molds. The bathroom needs to be renovated badly. -- sink is in a separate room from the toilet. The toilet and bath are separate, almost across the room from each other. But the sink is beside the bath, so after using the toilet, one needs to walk across the room to the bathroom to wash. Again, renovation is in order. -- there's a tiny spot to put a soap in the shower but no other shelf or other place to put your own shampoo, etc. inside the shower stall so we end up putting our stuff on the shower floor (yuck). -- very limited and not very good wine and spirits selection. They only had 1 choice for red wine, a local gin and local rum (though Philippine rum is world class) but they had sake and shoju. We ended up walking to the bar several meters to the left of the resort (if facing the water) for proper cocktails and decent wine. I wish I had a better review because the people there are really nice and other than the but's, it met our goal of a relaxing, comfortable stay, but those little things really bothered us. I still recommend a stay at Villa Marmarine though as it ticks off the boxes for a serene, simple and friendly stay in Siquior with decent and reasonably priced food BUT only if you can book either of the 2 rooms in the separate concrete structure shown in the website called Hero and Hifumi which I was able to check out while they were being cleaned in-between guests so I know that they’re in better shape in terms of the condition of the in-room facilities. And I just checked the website of Villa Marmarine and they have raised their rates. Luckily, when we booked, the rate for Fuji room was still P2500 per night without breakfast. We didn’t spend more than P600 for 2 people for breakfast each day. But the new rate for Fuji is now P4500 with breakfast, or P2000 more per night. That’s more than 50% increase. With the condition of Fuji as of this writing, it isn’t reasonably priced even with breakfast and it’s not worth the higher rate. But the price for Hero and Hifumi didn’t seem to increase much. So really, stay in Villa Marmarine only if you can get either Hero or Hifumi unless they renovate Fuji (and keep the new rate).
