Beautiful spot, very relaxing, very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices. Cooked breakfast could have been hotter. Rooms clean and bed comfortable. There are quite a few steps to the upper part of the resort but there is an incline.

We stayed for one night here as part of our South Island touring holiday. Our room was on the first floor - probably the nicer view than the view from the ground floor rooms, but there are steps to carry up the cases. We had 2 comfy beds, very nice bathroom . We were expecting a continental breakfast but were pleasantly surprised to find it included eggs and hash browns. I do have a suggestion for the breakfast team - keep the coffee pots separate from the pots used for hot water, otherwise tea will taste of coffee, as mine did. We ate in the restaurant for lunch and the evening - food was good, portions could be a little more generous perhaps, but service was efficient and friendly and the views from the restaurant are amazing.

Great location for visiting the Pancake Rocks. This place is really nice. We had a standard room that was spacious, had a sea view, kitchen facilities, shower and small patio. The view was lovely and the room clean with a huge comfy bed. We wished we were staying longer it was so nice.

We stayed there for one night in a grand ocean view room which I have booked on booking.com, grand ocean view room with balcony. Our room was right behind the restaurant and had great views ( all rooms have great views as they all positioned toward the beach) but we could not sit on he balcony because of the noise coming from the restaurant's commercial grade fan extractor plus the smell of grease lingering around..... Luckily around 10.30ish it was turned off and we could sleep but it was turned back on at 6.00am. I think transparency at booking would be very useful- I certainly would have paid more not to have such a noisy and smelly room. The room itself was great. We had dinner at the restaurant and the service was exceptional but food was pretty average.

This establishment is perfectly positioned and the rooms are comfy, and the restaurant experience was superb particularly given the relatively remote location. We would highly recommend staying here for a Punakaiki base…

A great place to stay, very clean and tidy, very comfortable beds. Pancake Rocks was a short distance away, fantastic experience. Great location with the sea so close. The staff were super helpful and lovely to chat to - thanks to Alex, Wendy, and Richard. The restaurant was great also, would definitely return.

Despite it being the middle of a very wet spell of weather we had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Ocean View Retreat. We had a room with a small balcony and an amazing sea view. The room was immaculate. The staff extremely friendly and efficient. We ate in the restaurant for a couple of evening meals which were very good. We had the Continental Breakfast, which although fairly basic, was delivered with excellent service and eating with the gas fire and amazing sea views made it all the more special. If you want a quality stay to totally relax this is a great place to stay.

I stayed 2 nights at The Ocean View Resort to have some time off from all the stress and hustle and bustle all the time. And I have to say I couldn't have picked a better place to do that. All the rooms are facing the ocean which is only about 100m away. So you can fall asleep and wake up with the sound if the ocean. The meals in the cozy restaurant are superb and the service the best. Big thank you to Alexander and Jay who looked after me in the best possible way. The scenery of Punakaiki is one of my favorites. There is so much to see and to do you couldn't do it all if you would stay for a whole week Went back today to my stressful day to day life with a big smile on my face. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

This place is just breath taking! Arrived on a rather gloomy looking day but between the views, the amazing service and delicious food we ended up having the most amazing time. We stayed on the second floor and the views to the ocean were unbelievable. The ocean views, backdrop of the bush, fire place and calm music at the lounge bar and restaurant gave us a really cosy feeling. Food delicious!!! Staff and management go above and beyond to make you feel like you are the only ones there. Can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend.

Amazing place to relaxing in . The view was outstanding even on a gloomy day.the service by staff was just fantastic. Restaurant food was top notch.
