We stayed at Mike’s for a few days so we could explore Apo Island and were very pleased with our stay! We had planned to do our Advanced Open Water diving course but as I got an ear infection a few days before we arrived we couldn’t do the course, but they were so understanding and allowed us to cancel the course booking. My partner still did a dive with them and had a great time, and we snorkelled on their day trip to Apo. We saw lots of fish, turtles and coral, so it was still a really worthwhile day. The manager is Chester, who is super friendly and gave a lot of great advice, and was always on the scene to chat to. The room was comfy, clean and quiet and all the staff we friendly and helpful. They arranged a scooter for us so we could explore the area, and replaced it immediately when it had a problem - great service! The only thing I would advise would be to avoid the pizza, otherwise the food is good, and there are excellent local options (especially Finbar which is a 10 minute walk away).

Hello Tom, I'm so happy to hear that you guys had a great time staying with us. It was sad to hear that you weren't able to continue with your Advance Open Water Course but as a diver I understand that sometimes these things are out of your control. But I am glad to hear that you guys had a great time nonetheless. Thank you for informing us about our pizza, I have informed my chef and his team so that we may improve the quality. We will make sure to make it better and consistent with the high quality that we strive for. Thank you again for your honest feedback and I do hope to see you guys again in the future. Chester Lee

A dive buddy of mine and I spent 10 days at Mike's and it was a great experience. The hotel staff is extremely attentive to their guests needs and requests. The two of us had originally booked the large suite they have on site, but it was obvious it was much more than the two of us required. The next morning we met with the Corey, the manger, who was completing her last few days on the job and Chester who is her replacement. We asked if it would be possible to change our room request from the large house to two smaller rooms. Within an hour, we were in our new rooms. Each day, throughout our stay, Corey and Chester would chat with us and the other guests to see if there was anything we needed. The rest of the hotel staff were equally attentive, friendly and courteous. Our primary reason for choosing Mike's was the diving in Dauin. Again, everything was first class. We spent 8 days diving with Ace and Gabby who are the dive guides at Mike's. Whether we were muck diving around the resort or traveling to Apo island to dive the walls and reefs, Ace and Gabby were on top of their game. During the dive, they frequently check on the divers in their groups and are amazing when it comes to locating and pointing out a wide variety of sea life, from the large to the nearly microscopic. We dove Apo Island 3 times and various reefs around the resort the rest of the time; we were never disappointed. Our final day of diving, we only wanted to do 2 dives, so we could dry our equipment before our flight home. A new group had arrived at Mike's and they wanted to go to Apo, which is a 3 dive affair. We arranged for Ace to take us shore diving while Gabby went to Apo with the other divers. They really make every effort to provide you with the best diving experience possible. Ace and Gabby also take great care of your gear or the gear you rent. My buddy and I didn't have to lift a finger. From having the gear set up on the boat, to washing it all out at the end of the day and hanging it up to dry overnight, the dive guides and boat crew took care of everything. If you are looking for a great diving experience, I highly recommend Mike's. My buddy and I are already talking about a return trip to Mike's next year

My friend and I booked 9 nights. The diving at the resort and Apo Island was very professionally run. The dive masters, Ace and Gabby were attentive to our safety, equipment and fining critters big and small. The boat crew carried our equipment, tanks and set it up, full service. The crew was extremely friendly and helpful, as was everyone in the resort. The resort has a small restaurant that served good food. They even offered a service of pre-ordering service so you can get on the dive boat quickly. The standard room was adequate with a shower and full bath. The room was comfortable with A/C. I am trying to reschedule another trip in the upcoming months to the resort. Chester is the manager and he strives to take care of every detail.

I'm conflicted by my stay here, so I'll just lay out the pros and cons. Pros: Absolutely great dive shop. First and foremost, thank you to Gabby who was my divemaster for all my dives. He is phenomenal and a huge asset to Mike's. Jonathan who manages the diving also provided good service. The rental gear was in excellent condition except for the booties which have seen better days but got the job done. They took me and one other guy to Apo island which I do not think is a profitable trip for them with just 2 customers, but they knew how much time we had at Mike's and made it work for us. Gabby also took me out on a solo night shore dive (which was incredible). Not all dive shops will do this. Corri who manages Mike's also provided excellent customer service. She responded promptly to my emails and then gave me her number so I could Whatsapp her to coordinate a transfer from the ferry. And then after I had an issue with my A/C (see below), she thanked me for saying something so I told her all my complaints as they happened (nothing in this review will be a surprise to them), and she did her very best to resolve them. She never once blamed me as being high maintenance, at least not to my face. And really, I'm not high maintenance. Mike's just has some issues that it needs to address. The wifi was really good and it worked in my room. This is a big deal and a rarity in the Philippines when you get outside the big cities. Mixed: Mike's restaurant has a fairly large menu, and there's a full page of Mexican foods as Mike himself is from California, where I lived for many years. I had the seafood burrito and it was bad. The seafood itself was fine although perhaps not the kinds I would expect to see in a seafood burrito, but ingredient availability plays into that. The real issue is that the flavor was well off. Now perhaps I was foolish to get Mexican food in the Philippines, but I think that if you put something on your menu, you should be proud of it, and this dish was not something to be proud of. Corri did tell me that she and Mike were going to order the seafood burrito the next day and reevaluate it, so again I appreciate her taking my complaint seriously. On the other hand, I had one of the Filipino soup dishes (I can't remember the name) and it was tasty. The breakfasts were also good. So food is a mixed bag, and perhaps you'll be fine if you stick to breakfast and Filipino food. Cons: The biggest con by far is that the bed is uncomfortable. The mattress is a 3 inch piece of soft foam. That simply doesn't cut it. As a side sleeper, my hips were hitting the slats below. Corri again took my complaint seriously and brought me a second mattress to put on top of the first. This helped but these mattresses are so soft, it's still not conducive to a good night's sleep. I stayed in several other places across the Philippines during my trip, including places significantly cheaper than Mike's, and all of my mattresses were much nicer. This is something Mike's absolutely needs to address in my opinion. These mattresses are just unacceptably low quality. I also had an issue with my air conditioning rattling. Corri did her best to fix it by jamming a wad of paper into it. The problem continued intermittently through my stay but generally I was able to fix it myself by adjusting the wad of paper. It wasn't ideal but wasn't a dealbreaker. I was considering this dive resort vs another a little further south in Zamboanguita, which was cheaper both to stay at and dive with. I paid about 8,000 PHP more between the stay and the higher priced dives over the course of a 3 night stay at Mike's because the reviews were so stellar and I figured it was better to stay in Dauin town. In the end, I was expecting a bit more from Mike's, and Dauin town doesn't have much to recommend it. I could've dived all the same sites from Zamboanguita. So I cannot wholeheartedly recommend Mike's knowing there are other cheaper options so long as Mike's has the beds that it has.

Thank you so much for your detailed review and for the feedback you already provided whilst you were here with us. We were happy to be able to accommodate your diving wishes during your short stay so we are very happy you enjoyed your trips. As we discussed, I hope most of your concerns were addressed whilst you were here - even though some of them were temporary fixes. We did try out the seafood burrito the next day and have agreed to adjust the recipe so that ingredients which can be missing in this part of the Philippines have been replaced with others which can be more reliably obtained, it's a shame it was your last day otherwise you could have helped us out with a tasting. Your comments are appreciated and we will be taking them into account in our plans for the future.

A very long over due! I really did book a very nice place. Not just the place but more of the staff and i have no regret that I picked the place for our holiday. The staff are very helpful and they really took care of us when my partner is sick. They prepared the papaya thing and the tawa tawa. Staff are always there to help and buy things for us. Since we cant go out. We didnt enjoy Dumaguete but we discovered that Mikes Dauin is a rare gem. I just dont know what has happen to us if we did book a wrong place. As well, we enjoyed the foods they prepared for us. Was all nice:) Thank you so very much.

We loved our 5 nights here and wished we had stayed at least a couple more days. We had a second floor standard room (Room 8), which had a king-size bed and enormous porch, complete with oversized drying rack, comfortable chairs, and table. The layout and design of the resort make excellent use of the lot that they own, and it is very beautiful. There is a pool and restaurant on-site as well as a small beach. Dauin is a nice town, and it is easy to walk to an ATM or to other restaurants like Finbar and Frontemare for a change of pace. The staff is excellent. Owner Mike was visiting from Florida and stayed in the standard room directly below us. He was very friendly and found time to talk. Corri, Jonathan, and Joy helped with any questions we had regarding our visit. The servers, housekeeping, and maintenance staff were all hard-working and helpful. Ace and Gabby, two of their dive masters, were fantastic teachers and guides. I took PADI's Discover Scuba program with Ace and then a trip to Apo Island with Gabby and highly recommend them. If you ever wanted to go scuba diving but didn't have the opportunity, take it if you visit Mike's. We used the pool a few times but spent most of our active time at the nearby Dauin Marine Reserve. It's just a 10 minute walk on the beach from Mike's. The coral and fish varieties are beautiful and numerous. It's 50 pesos to enter, but we were only asked to pay on the weekend. Mike's has snorkeling equipment to rent if you want. They also arrange massages in your room (600 pesos) and dive and snorkeling trips to Apo island.

From the immaculately maintained grounds to the incredible staff, this is the place to be if you want beach, sun, care and relaxation. Johnathan and Corri are masters at their trade and Mike is a remarkable host. Expert divers, an incredible diving vessel, and the care and attention to detail that you want when trusting your life underwater. It’s the little things that matter and this place has it all. Great food, great rooms, great gear, great dining and most importantly safety beyond compare.

My husband and I were on a nine night dive vacation, and the resort's accommodation, restaurant, dive operations, and grounds were exactly what we needed to unwind and enjoy this amazing part of the Philippines. We travelled over the US Thanksgiving Holiday, both a good season for diving in the Philippines, and good value alternative to other popular Thanksgiving dive destinations. Location and service: It has both secluded beach-front access, and it's a short walk into the charming village of Dauin. Staying in a resort with walkable places nearby is a bonus that we enjoyed. And special shout-out to the staff, who went out of their way for us, including arranging a great non-diving daytrip to the nearby Malatapay Market, waterfalls, and hot spring. I thought it was a great value for what we enjoyed. The friendly and attentive staff were all great and created a really relaxing vacation experience for us. Diving: We dove (dived) four days in Dauin and three in Apo Island. We did the gamut of "macro" diving to see cute, little critters in the sand, with more than a few we hadn’t seen before in the ~1000 dives we’ve done. And we saw rays, friendly turtles, snakes, and vibrant soft and hard corals. Our talented dive guides Ace and Gabby pointed out all the cool stuff, and the boat crew was skilled, friendly and professional. I saw all levels of divers having fun. Accommodation: I liked our first-floor room for its cleanliness, air conditioning, and outdoor lounge chairs. We chose a standard room. There are slightly bigger deluxe rooms with a sea view. Our room had a large bathroom and was plenty big enough for us once we organized all the luggage we brought. The Wi-Fi varies across the resort. Our room's Wi-Fi was good enough for our vacation needs. If you're doing the work-remote thing, choose a room closer to one of the access points. Restaurant: We ate here for most meals since we could time food with the breaks in diving. The food is good. It's a combo of Filipino, western, and surprisingly, Mexican food. The bar is well stocked. I liked the local, craft IPA. We would definitely return. I’d also note that weekdays were relatively quiet in November 2022, shortly after the removal of the COVID-19 test requirements for incoming visitors. On one day we were the only divers on the boat with 3 boatmen and a dive guide. The Philippines is thankfully open again and they are all waiting for you. Go enjoy it now; we’ll be coming back too.

Location, food and facilities amazing. Everyone there focused on making your stay perfect. A truly wonderful "family" of charming, dedicated hosts. No request is too much trouble - even going shopping for us to find a forgotten item. Modern, efficient air-con AND large ceiling fans in all bedrooms. Fans throughout the bar and restaurant area. Fast internet connection throughout the resort. Superb clean pool. Right on the beach. Fantastic coral snorkel / dive site with crystal clear water a "10 minutes stroll" along the beach (or 2 minutes tricycle ride). Excellent breakfast with multiple choices, included in the room rate. Very extensive a la carte menu also. Bar and restaurant open from 7am, serving all items on the menu until at least 8pm. Delightful people, always smiling, delivering high quality service quickly, dedicated to ensuring one of the very best holidays you'll ever have. We have been totally blown away by this place and all the wonderful people there!!! A very special 'Thank You' to the British management team; Corri (hotel) and Jonathan (diving)!!!

We loved 9 days of non-stop diving at Mikes. The diving & boat crew were professional, safe, careful, friendly and well-organised. The dive guides, Ace & Gabi, have many years experience at Dauin and were unbelievably good at finding even the tiniest creatures for us to photograph. The boat crew were super-attentive, good-humoured and helped with absolutely everything. Mikes is small - 12 rooms - well-designed and comfortable. The staff delightful. Corri was super-helpful by email with information beforehand and helping us when we had flights cancelled. You can eat at the resort or there are good restaurants within 5-10 walk -we loved Finbar, Anahaw, Fronteterre. Almost all dives are boat dives using the resort boat which is well set up for diving - most Dauin diving operations seem to use a similar-style banca. We visited sites from 3 to 30 minutes away plus an Apo day trip on Mikes boat. The most interesting diving at Dauin is muck diving, macro photographer heaven, but there is some variety - some interesting coral reefs. Apo Island, a day trip, has beautiful coral, better visibility and more scenic dives but we enjoyed Dauin more. Larger fish were scarce in Dauin and Apo, like most of the Philippines.
