Stayed in February 2023 for 5 nights. Excellent experience from beginning to end. They organized my transfer from the airport and the reception staff was extremely friendly and professional. The room had everything you would need and as advertised. The free breakfast buffet was different each day and the food always fresh and tasty... especially the fresh fruit! The dining area is practically on the beach so you can have your meals with an ocean view.

Spent the next few days diving. The dive shop is on premises and the staff was amazing. All gear was waiting on the boat before departure and the crew took care of everything including changing tanks between dives. If you're into muck diving these dives are supposed to be some of the best in the Philippines. If you enjoy reef diving, the Apo Island trip is a must. Some of the best, most vibrant, reefs I've seen.

We stayed here for 2 weeks , this is our second visit, both my partner and I are divers and this place is on the beach , so you can walk straight from your room on to the boat.
The deluxe rooms are spacious and clean, the staff are really friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves a wide variety of meals and can cater for everyone. I'd highly recommend this resort.

This August was our fourth visit to Pura Vida and it was awry to be back again. The staff were brilliant and so friendly and welcoming. Some of them we know from previous visits and some new top…Jessie in the kit store, MJ in the restaurant, Garry on the boat crew, Damon, Jan-Jan, Gio, Eric Carlos, Dianna, Clarissa, Elvira, Ella, the dive shop team, Kevin, the cleaning staff etc etc. They all made us feel well looked after and the service and care was outstanding.
The diving here is awesome. The guides and boat crew are highly competent and take an amazing amount of care to give guests the best possible experience. The dive operation is every bit deserving of the high level rating it receives.
The new restaurant isn’t as intimate as the divers bar but the food is great and has really improved. The kitchen was happy to modify choices to accommodate my wife’s vegetarian diet. As my only slight criticism it would be great to see more simple and fresh barbecued fish.
Our room, right on the beach, faced the stunning sunrise and just a few metres from the sea. Idyllic. Quiet and calm. We’ve had a fantastic time. Planning to come for Christmas 2024.

Don’t get me wrong, the room was outstanding, very clean and absolutely perfect….so kudos to the staff for that, really impressive. However, I was bitterly disappointed in the restaurant. The resort is literally within touching distance of the ocean and the only things on the menu were the generic pizza and burger options you find in any other average resort. Considering the size of their kitchen and the location this was so disappointing. We were expecting this rather expensive resort to be backed up by high quality food and we were bitterly let down. In addition the food we did receive was below par, bland and slightly warm at best. The reason I’ve given 3/5 is that based on the menu options and the poor quality of food, I don’t think I would choose to return. In addition to this there was a mix up with the payment we made via booking.com and they charged us twice for the room. I am still awaiting a refund for this and the lack of urgency from the Pura Vida team on this matter is very frustrating. Great views and a beautiful room however did take the edge off the negatives.

Nice gardens, good location, friendly staff. Too much penny pinching and poor decisions by management. Our breakfast was included in the rate but coffee was powdered only. if you want normal coffee you have to pay extra. We were stopped at reception because we had a bottle of Diet Coke on our return. Outside food and drink not allowed on the property. (I am diabetic.) There was no complimentary water in the room (apart from an unsavoury looking plastic jug). Also there was ZERO housekeeping during our 5 day, 4 night stay. Our beachfront villa wasn’t reached by hotel Wi-Fi (though the gave the password for the room Wi-Fi anyway). The safety deposit box / vault didn’t work. Any efforts to have the hotel resolve these issues came to nothing. During this trip we stayed at four other hotels/resorts in the same price range but Pura Vida was massively over priced and was a poor offering.

Room Tip: The price may suggest that the resort is of a higher standard than it actually is.

Stayed in what was advertised as a suite room for 13 nights and paid top price for what was a large nicely furnished room. I am afraid the room did not live up to expectations.

On the website was a picture of a Jacuzzi which we assumed would be fully functional with working jets. It turned out that the jets were not functioning and in fact had not functioned for years. The pump motor had an electrical fault as the circuit breaker next to the tub was locked in the off position and so there were no jets. It was effectively a large bathtub not the Jacuzzi we expected.

After a lot of complaining where the staff at first said they would get it fixed we found out that it had not actually worked since the pandemic! ( at least two years ago). In fact I found one review complaining about it not working in January 2020 ... 4 years ago! This is really a poor standard of maintenance and should be fixed as soon as possible especially in what is one of their more expensive rooms.

Also we were invaded one night by over 20 black bees and I was actually stung by one. The staff said they would spray or remove the bees nest but I have no confirmation that this was done.

Aside from that the grounds and pools are nicely maintained, the restaurant staff are excellent especially Vilma and Dorio though all the others were good too. It is a good place to learn to SCUBA dive. In fact these last things are why I am rating the resort average and not poor.

This property appears to be a merger of at least two different hotels. The standard between one part of the property and the other part are very different. Grounds are beautiful and well kept. Facilities are good and reasonably well maintained. We booked and paid for Deluxe Double rooms via Agoda. The rooms are stand alone nipa hut style. There are 10 of these rooms. They are comfortable but not deluxe by any stretch. These rooms are at the back of the resort. Unfortunately very close to the power utility generator that runs all day from early morning until evening and all night on at least two nights we were there. It is very very loud. We were told by reception staff that it does not run at night. They lied. We stayed here because the diving operator based at this hotel is very good. But we were so disappointed in the rooms we were given. If you stay here, stay in the rooms on the beach side of reception to avoid the noise. If you stay here we also recommend you eat elsewhere. There’s a range of good places in Dauin now all within walking distance that serve much better food. Food at this resort is expensive, bland and underwhelming. Drinks are also very expensive.

Great location when you just want a quick escape from the chaos of the city. We stayed in one of the garden rooms with bamboo themed accommodation. The room was clean and complete with essentials. Loved how we can just chill at the balcony and have a relaxing time. The restaurant offers great selection of food with variety of cuisines available. We stayed for 3 days and everything we tried on the menu were delicious. Staff were friendly and accommodating especially kitchen staff who go above and beyond even baking extra loaves of bread for us to bring home. We loved their home made breads!

Resort guests enjoy free access to the fitness center and pool.

Wish they would allow room service though, even just for pica-pica or meryenda meals.

Overall, loved everything about our stay and will definitely come back!

Pura Vida is a beautiful property perfectly set up for a dive vacation. Rooms are comfortable and steps from the on-site dive operator Sea Explorers. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Food was very good and not expensive when compared to home or other destinations we have been to. Would highly recommend.

I made a trip to the Philippines for my son's wedding. I was referred to Pura Vida by my new daughter in law who grew up in the area. Of the five resorts that I checked out online, this was by far the most appealing property for many reasons. I can honestly say that the entire visit was one of the most pleasant and wonderful experiences I have ever had. Having such a wonderful place to stay made my time with my son and his wife that much more special. And my daughter in law knows many of the staff. They all made me feel like family. I spent 16 days enjoying the Bird's Nest Suite, which was roomy, comfortable, clean, cool, and overall just great.
I could not have been happier with the staff and the care I received from them all. They all treated me like family; from the restaurant, bar, office, and housekeeping... Everyone was so sweet and pleasant.
The breakfasts included with my stay were good and plentiful. The other meals I ate at the resort were plentiful and good.
My room was up 2 flights of stairs (good exercise) with a lovely view of the property and view through the trees of the beach. The propery and pools are lovely and so well maintained. Even all the property maintenance staff were friendly, always greeting me. I had a wonderful massage at the spa one afternoon.
My home is in northern Nevada in the USA. I traveled about 30 some hours to get to the Philippines. Having such a beautiful, relaxing place to stay made my visit a joy! Thank you, Jovey, to you and your wonderful team for everything. I really hope to be back before too long.
