The receptionists, as well as the security guard, were all very accommodating upon our arrival in the hotel. The room was clean. The bed is very comfy. The place is very quiet despite the fact the hotel is located along the highway. The location is also very accessible to everything. The price per night is okay. One thing that annoyed me was the sound in the ceiling, rumbling sound during wee hours. But, overall our 2-night stay was worth it. We will surely choose Plaza Alemania Hotel if ever we will be in Iligan again.

My wife and our 2yr old stayed at Plaza Alemania for 9 days during October 2014. We were staying at another hotel in Iligan but moved after we heard about Alemania. I think the hotel is only a couple of years old, although iv been coming to Iligan for 8yrs and have never heard of it, i wish i had now. I can say, hands down, it is the best looking hotel in Iligan, no competition. It looks newly refurbished, the rooms are super clean and everything is very smart looking, there is even a casino and rooftop resto/bar. Im not sure of the name of the room we booked but it was 1700 per night, and had a King size bed, small balcony, wardrobe and small bathroom. The Bed is a real mattress, and by real i mean not a 2 inch foam mattress but a comfortable inner spring mattress, which is rare for this rate. The staff are all very proffesional and friendly, i couldnt fault them. My only issue was all the King size rooms are street facing, and Lluch Ave is pretty busy with traffic from around 0700-2000, next time we will probably take a Twin room which is on the other side of the hotel. Besides, that, i cant fault the hotel, and have already booked again for our return at Xmas, i would definitely recommend the hotel, its now my new go to place to stay in Iligan

There really isn't a great selection of decent places to stay in Iligan when looking online - and checking out Tripadvisor reviews - but the Plaza Alemania looked quite promising and the pick of the bunch.

Myself and my partner were going to be staying in Iligan for 21 days, so we didn't want somewhere too expensive yet on the other hand it had to be decent.

Our stay was in late February to the middle of March, and there was a 'special promotion' on with the prices which possibly translated to off-peak pricing, so the 'Onyx' room we selected was 1,700php per night rather than 2,200.
We asked if there was any discount if we booked 21 nights and paid cash in advance, but reception declined this and said that the rooms were already discounted, which was bad business in my opinion and an opportunity missed by them.

Bearing in mind there was no advantage to booking in advance then, we paid for just one night and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

The room had no real storage to speak of so I didn't even bother unpacking my suitcase, relying on the one change of clothing in my carry-on bag.
My partner left most of her clothes in her suitcase too.

The air-conditioning unit was set into the window and was as noisy as they come. It did work well however, keeping the small room very cool - it's just a shame we only had a thin top-sheet on the bed which was the thickness of a cheap shirt.

There was no refrigerator, so the fresh fruit salad my partner had made couldn't be stored in the room with us. The porter was good enough to take it from us and store it in the hotel's refrigerator though.

In the morning we had breakfast (which was included in the price) served to us on the rooftop terrace, and this was decent enough - no complaints whatsoever, and the fresh air was welcome.

Main complaint was the lack of hot or even moderately warm water for the shower, and a cold shower just before bed isn't something I'd recommend.
In the morning when leaving to visit the shopping Mall, we mentioned the lack of hot water and it was then that reception disclosed it was being fixed - something they should have mentioned before we paid for the room obviously.

This was when we decided we weren't going to stay any longer, and fortunately my partner already had somewhere else in mind where we could check out, which turned out to be cheaper and much better value, especially when a 10% discount was offered if we booked for the remaining 19 days we now needed to stay once we slept for a final night in Almenia.

On returning to our room later that afternoon, neither the sheets nor the towels had been changed, and there had never been a mat/mop provided for the bathroom where the floor was slippy after using the (cold..) shower.

We wouldn't return to the Plaza Almenia and wouldn't recommend it, even if we hadn't found somewhere cheaper and better.

Wi-fi strength was OK - just pick up a token from the reception with a 24 hour code.

Be very careful staying in this hotel. Front Desk staff will not give me a second swipe card unless I pay P250.00. While in bed resting, I was surprised to see a woman in my room. I interrogated the woman how she got in to my room, she replied "Front Desk gave her the swipe card". Beware this modus operandi in this hotel. If I am not around, all my personal belongings were gone i.e.. laptop, iPad, passport, money. I checked out and demand a refund.. Warning to all... Stay away from this hotel, or you will be so sorry

Budget hotels in Philippines can be good. Think Hotel Durban in Poblacion, Makati: bright and airy.

Sadly this wasn'nt the case with this 13 month old Iligan City hotel despite its very pleasant staff.

We had a P1700 room, admittedly not as good as some other reviewers picked at a higher price.

The corridors leading to the room were dark and drab. The room was compact and had a noisy aircon unit, with a bathroom where the shower drained onto the rest of the bathroom, very poor design.

The bed lacked a doona and only had a top sheet.

The floor of the lift already looked worn.

However the Munich rooftop restaurant was much better and light and airy so it saved the hotel from a one or two out of five rating.

I would have liked to given them more stars but, it is not that kinda hotel. The service is excellent and they see to your ever need. Over all a nice surprise from Iligan City. The hotel is in a good location. Food at the roof top restaurant was well prepared and in a timely manner. My room was a bit small but, very clean. The bed gave me the best nights sleep I have had on my entire trip. I would stay here again anytime.

This is my review the 2nd of 3 properties I had the opportunity to stay in at Iligan City last week.

This hotel is located at downtown area in Iligan City at Quezon Avenue Extension - one of the key commercial avenues of the city. The City Hall is 2 - 3kms south of this property on the same road.

I stayed in a decent-priced room at PHP 1,400 - it had everything you needed, and the only hotel with a plug-in hot water boiling pot and coffee in-room. There was no fridge but am sure other bigger rooms / room classes may have one.

The bed was comfortable, air-con working very well, TV was nice but only had 2 channels - I am not sure if they were able to fix this.

The elevator was not working in a normal manner as it stalled for about 3 minutes before it started to descend. I would ask if they have be able to fix this.

The internet connection was slow and sometime hard to get a signal but was complimentary. Please ask for the connection code upon check-in.

Staff were very kind, a cheerful front desk lady with welcoming security guard and bellhop / general assistance gentleman.

Room was neat and clean - the bathroom was fine but there is no water divider on the floor with the shower section and the rest of the bathroom floor for the small room that I stayed in. (I am not sure of the others)

We had a room towards the rear of the property, so it wasn't that noisy. If your room is near the main road, it could be noisy on the account of the vehicles, motorbike exhaust and horn sounds.

There is a casino (the only casino in the city) on the ground and 2nd floors, a function hall on the 5th (or 6th) floor and finally a rooftop bar and restaurant on the 6th (or 7th) floor. I am unable to review any of the above.

One major item to note is that some of the rooms' air conditioning, the "external" parts of a window-type aircon appears above your head in the corridors leading to your rooms so watch your head! :) Its just a thought but this would be, for these parts, a practical solution as central aircons do not make any financial or reliability sense and this way, hotels can really add more rooms in different configurations. Note that not all rooms have a window view to the outside.

Overall, a good place to stay for work / leisure / overnight stopovers / Casino (the only one from many miles around) but best you inquire upon check in what room types are available and its costs.

I stayed in room 310 for overnight. The room smelled bad coming from the throw pillows. The pillows also has pungent smell. The airconditoner compressor after shutting down at thermostat setting would trip several times when restarting. Bathroom sink is clogged. Main drain is clogged. Shower not working. No hot water. Had to take a bath using faucet in squat position. This could have a nice hotel with smiling and cordial staff if not for the neglected facilities.

Nice hotel, good security, kind staff
The room was nice, not that big but decent size. No view but thats ok. AC made some noise so turned that off at night.

Breakfast is optional for like 600 pesos for 2. Br fast is on the roofdeck which is very nice.

The hotel is in the city and close to everything. The busterminal to the hotel is like 100 with a taxi.

Cons:

1. This was the hotel wherein 5 people where massacred inside a room last march 2015 because of drug-related issues. So their security and hotel safety are now questioned by customers like us. After that incident, they now have police escorts and they have 4 security guards during the night.

2. Old and very slow elevator.

3. Slow wifi internet.

4. No proper training or system on their reservations in the front desk. Their staff are sometimes confuse with what rooms their customers are assigned to and sometimes customer's reservation are lost or moved to another date as with my bad experience.

5. The hotel is near a mosque so expect noise from muslim's prayer esp. around 4-5am with their loud speakers.

6. Their small cable tv has few channel or limited selections.

Pros:

1. clean rooms, they have free small bottle of water, a water heater, cup and coffee.

2. Decent size bathroom with hot and cold shower with free soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste and disposable slippers.

3. Friendly and accomodating staff.
