Came with a group of friends and we spent 4 nights here and I ended up extending my stay for another 3 nights. Absolutely loved my stay, wouldn't have left if I hadn't had work to do back home. All the staff were really friendly, treating us like family - such a heavy heart indeed to leave this place! I stayed in room 17 which was beachfront and had the best views of the beach. Minor problems with the shower were addressed almost immediately and the manager of Hippocampus, Stefan kept coming back to make sure it had been rectified. Hippocampus has a peaceful and very clean surroundings good accomodation, really good and tasteful sets of new menus (thanks to the new Chef Nica) and amazing friendly Staffs (credit to the Management) ...you feel the privacy and comfort and warm hospitality which makes our stay well worth it. I loved drinking cocktails viewing the beautiful powder white sand with crystal clear water (paradise for Divers)

Spent three nights and an amazing experience! Friendly staff! Rooms are few walks to beachfront or stay on thier prime rooms and have a nice morning ocean view. Licious foods on the menu. Must try the Egg Benedict for breakfast and Dry Rubbed Pork Chop for Dinner! Kudos to the new Chef Nikki! Planning to go back again with a gang of friends! Hippocampus is an asset to the island! Recommended for family and partners!

We stayed here in April and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are clean, staff is really friendly and always smiling, and the food was very tasty. We also love the margarita cocktail, especially for happy hour :) Stefan, the manager of Hippocampus, answered all our questions by mail and organized a pick up service directly from the airport. The journey was long, but everything was well organized. Malapascua is famous for diving with sharks, but we don't like diving and we really enjoyed the island. :) They are lots of divers around, young people and a dive shop integrated in the resort. Everyone was always friendly! Thank you to Stefan, Yason, and all the staff. We will come back! :)

I booked this hotel purely based on the recommendation from my diving shop - DevOcean is the no.1 diving shop on the island (according to TripAdvisor June 2017. And I will write another review on them separately.). It is indeed convenient because they are literally just under the same roof. However, I would have to suggest fellow travelers to shop around before making the booking based on my own experience in room 14. The room I had is so called a superior garden view room and because I was staying alone and it was during the low season, I got 2850 peso per night with breakfast included. But I am not happy with the facility: 1. no internet in the room - you may have wifi signals in the room but you CANNOT connect to the internet. The staff were nice and told you that their…

Hi Harry, this is Lee. Thanks for your review - I would just like to address your concerns. 1. Internet - Internet on this island is and has always been a problem. We are constantly working to try and improve it but we can only do as good as the service provider gives us. Since we have no direct connection to the mainland, we are only working off of wireless signals which causes the internet connections to fail regularly. In addition, they only give each business an allowance of 10GB per day and once this is spent, it is spent. Please be aware that we also only got internet here some 5-6 years ago! We are still on a remote tropical island in the Philippines, after all... 2. No Chair in the Room - We have never received this complaint before but we are working on renovating our furniture during this low season to make the room more comfortable for the guests. However, you did have two chairs on your veranda that you could have moved inside if you wanted to have a chair inside. 3. No kettle in the room - We are aware this is an issue and are planning to put them in all Superior and Deluxe rooms. In the meantime we have made hot water now available for all guests free of charge. 4. The Air Conditioning - I was not aware that this air conditioning unit was not functioning properly. We had it serviced and freon topped up only 2 or 3 weeks ago, so something else may have broke in this unit. We are planning to have it inspected. As for the mosquitos, you can easily open your windows since there are mosquito screens on all the windows in your room to prevent them from coming inside. I am glad that the staff made you feel comfortable, but I wish you would have brought these issues to my attention personally so I could have solved them for you. The staff never informed me of your issues, if they had then I would have changed your room or upgraded you to a room that has cold air conditioning, no questions asked. I spoke to you on several occasions and you never mentioned any of this? Next time you have these problems, please advise management so we can sort it out for you, instead of telling us after the fact when it is too late. It results in a bad stay for you and a bad review for us :( We apologize your stay was not the best it could be, but we hope you will come back and give us another chance. We are working hard this low season to renovate and improve our services and our lodging to be better than the rest. Best Regards, Lee

I stayed here for 14 days during April/May 2017. Staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was very spacious, clean and comfy. It's next to the beach, has restaurant/bar - great live music at night.

I stayed here for 6 days for a diving trip mid May 2017. Devocean divers are located in the resort and I got an interesting package deal. Devocean divers are awesome by the way (see separate review). Lee was so quick and friendly answering all my queries that I did not hesitate for long to decide to choose this resort. The rooms (I opted for the 'superior room' with AC and hot shower) are clean and spacious enough. I liked the presence of a fridge and the bed was really comfortable for me. The breakfast is delicious and the lunch and dinner very good too. I had read previous reviews with poor comments regarding the service and quality but I guess they worked hard on these aspects. Hippocampus has everything you need to have a great stay on Malapascua. The rooms are clean. well air-conditioned, and good sized. The staff is super friendly and are always available to help with whatever you need. Wifi can be a bit spotty on the island in general and usually no signal in the room. But the lobby and eating area has signal.

This was my second stay at Hippocampus and once again it did not disappoint!. It has a friendly atmosphere with great staff and definitely one of the best bars to drink at on the island. The rooms are big, clean and comfortable and offer good value for money.

Stayed here while diving with Sea Explorers. Rooms were fine. Shower was hot. Hard not to trek sand in your room because the faucet to wash off sand for our room was located IN the sand. Beer was cheap. Breakfast good and cheap. Lunch and dinner would take a very long time to be prepared, so we ended up eating elsewhere most nights.
