Stayed for 2 nights in a Deluxe beachfront room. Very convenient location. They had a faucet by the balcony to rinse sand off your shoes - very thoughtful. I also liked that they provided the complimentary drinking water in a glass bottle everyday rather than in single-use plastic water bottles. Everyone should be doing that! Bathroom was a bit cramped, there was no bidet or pail with "tabo". No tv so you will really be encouraged to go out and find stuff to do. Wifi didn't work most of the time. Didn't get welcome drinks even though the room inclusion said there were.

Hi there and thanks for your comments! We are glad you enjoyed our environmental touches as well :) We try to keep our environmental footprint down as much as we can. We apologize about the welcome drinks - please come back and visit us after this pandemic and we can offer you some yummy cocktails in place of those welcome drinks! As for our Wifi, it's a curse on this island... most places wifi doesn't work at all because we have no solid connection to the mainland. Thanks for the feedback and the kind words. Hope to see you again!

Stopped in n here to watch the great live entertainment. Two girls with tremendous voices belting out a mixture of pop and rock classics. They were superb.

Sadly the same cannot be said of the bar. We ordered gin and tonic and were shocked to discover that the gin was clearly watered down! We complained to our waitress who brought us fresh gins and this time opened the bottle in front of us. I know times have been hard but treating customers this way is not the way forward.

Thank you for the review and we are happy you enjoyed the entertainment! We have never ever watered down our alcohol, and would never consider it. The local gins are not as potent as Bombay sapphire or other gins made internationally, and with the heat the ice tends to melt fast into the drinks potentially causing it to taste watered down. Sorry for your experience and we hope you will make it back someday - if you do, your first gin n tonic is on us! Thank you

The restaurant had nice food, beautiful location at sunset, live music at nights.
Stayed in a Superior garden room. Good size of the room, comfortable bed, clean room. However, the bathroom would need a deep cleaning, there was mold in the shower and on the back of the door. The fridge in the room was also dirty. I really hope they improve this!
Possible to wash your feet outside the room which was nice.
Would have been nice to have sunbeds on the beach or lounge chairs, but since they didn't we instead went to the hotel next doors during afternoons.
Some plastic trash in the water all along the beach, sad that the hotels and dive shops don't help to clean up. It wasn't nice to go in the ocean during low tide unfortunately.
Quite a lot of noice from the restaurant and kitchen at night so the standard rooms in the back might be better, otherwise use ear plugs. The kitchen used a bell everytime a meal was done which was a bit annoying when our room was nextdoor.
Even with the downsides we still wanted to stay another night, but since it was full we changed to another hotel on the island.

My overall experience wasn't good. For starters when I checked in my room reeked of cigarette smoke, someone definitely smoked there for a long time. I flagged this and they acknowledged it, they couldn't give me another room because they were fully booked, I got a free dinner instead and they also changed the sheets (upon request), the next day they cleaned the room and sprayed something to cover the smell, but it wasn't enough and when I raised this again I was told that there was no smell at all and it was the room's "scent"... really disappointed honestly.

Also, they play music until 23 every night (live music over the weekends), so if you need to wake up early to go diving with sharks, this is not the place to go to.

Hippocampus Beach Resort is a clean and modern hotel with good staff and a great location. However, the wifi was unreliable and music played loudly at night, which could be frustrating for early risers who are going diving. Overall, I still recommend this hotel for its comfort and quality service.

My weekend was amazing while staying at Hippocampus Beach Resort. They have well trained and accommodating staff to make your stay memorable and safe. You’ll feel like your part of the family.

Rooms are spacious and clean to ensure that you will have a great sleep at night.

A bar right at the beach front will spice up your night mood.

We ate our dinners here as this area is the most happening place in the entire island (which is very quiet). Hence you will find all the tourists here at night time. The food here is decent, the staff helpful, they have happy hours and there is a separate grill section. I would recommend this both for food and the environment.

If you are traveling to Malapascua, and you don’t know where to stay, look no further. Hippocampus has everything you want in a hotel. It’s directly on the beach, rooms are great, has a packed beach bar, staff are nice and very attentive. Manager will go beyond, and make sure you feel welcomed and have the time of your life. Nothing but love for this place, and we will definitely be back.

Arrived to Hippocampus to spend one night and then move next morning. Everything was very nice and easy. Good price clean but minimalistic which was okay. Great fun at the bar live entertainment that was loud until about 11 Pm. Door lock was jammed and we kept having to get help to open or lock door. Got it sorted maybe a bit inconvenient but we managed.

Clean and adequate room with most things that you need. Every room comes with a large balcony for lounging. I was in the back of the resort, and could see a glimpse of the ocean. Beds were comfortable and the air conditioning sufficient. Large shelves for storage. Housekeeping was friendly and hardworking. Attached restaurant served BBQ every night. Good stay

Answer from Maggie W

Private car and boat via the resort was 4,800php. Or local bus 240php (ish) and local ferry 100 php (if they have over 15 people).

Hi there, it takes about 5 hours in total to come from the airport to Hippocampus on Malapascua. Malapascua is at the north tip of Cebu Island. It takes a little bit of time to reach Malapascua, but that is also what makes it so special and creates a vibe of "choosen ones" :) The best method is a private car/van from Cebu airport to Maya Port and then with a boat to Malapascua. It is faster and more comfortable than going by public transfer. We can arrange that easily for you - even with a private boat. Just write us a mail regarding your booking. Cheers and sunny greetings from Malapascua
