My friend and I stayed at another hostel/dive resort before coming here and I'm so glad we switched to Threshers. Dive facility As a Divemaster, I know the good from the bad dive centres. This is one of the best - the staff are brilliant and professional, (shoutout to Rodz!), the equipment is top notch as are the boats and boat crew. You can dive at literally any time of day, every day there's an early trip to the thresher sharks, a night dive and either a day trip or a late morning and afternoon dive. It's literally a diver's paradise. Bar/restaurant Hands down the most varied menu/menus on the island. There are 3 menus that are available - I never found out why there are 3 menus available but I was thrilled there were. The food was yummy and filling and after a morning double dive there was nothing better than an omelette! Other highlights: banana split, mango split, banana and nutella crepes! Accommodation & grounds The pool. Oh the pool is LOVELY. Nothing more refreshing than a post-dive swim. The private beach. Dayum. My favourite memory is sitting on that beach, G&T in hand, watching the moon rise over the sea. The sky was purple, the mountains blue, the moon full... it was incredible. My friend and I stayed in the Lookout Hilltop private accommodation. What can I say? We splurged. It was so worth it. A balcony with unbelievable views. Lovely room. Complimentary waters. Working TV with loads of channels. No complaints at all. It was lovely. Overall, it was incredible. We meant to go to Bounty Beach for dinner one evening, but we were shattered from all the incredible diving OR getting up early to dive! It wouldn't have been far to go if we had wanted to, but in our 9 nights there, we didn't feel we had to leave. We were totally catered for and the overall cost of diving and eating and accommodation were AMAZING. Thank you so much xx

First if all, amazing food! Not a single meal in one week stay was disappointing. Yummy! The cocktails are not bad either, and worth the price during the happy hour. The staff is very nice and accommodating, they helped us to solve our booking problem. Also arranged the transfer from Cebu, very convenient! We ended up staying in 3 different types of rooms (due our booking problem), and we are very happy we got to try them all! Villa is fantastic, especially to hang out with friends on the terrace! Regular room is clean and has all the necessities. But the best of all was the lookout! If you are on a romantic getaway, stay there! The view is gorgeous, and you get all the privacy you need. There is a nice tiny beach accessable only by the resort guest, which is nice as well. If you are not there to dive, you can still enjoy peace and quiet, swimming pool and sunshine.

Thresher Cove Dive Resort in Malapascua Island Longon, Malapascua Island 6013 Cebu I booked with someone & it’s all paid. I added breakfast on February 3, 2020. I stayed here 11 days. It takes 30-35 minutes to get from Maya. You have to transfer from a large boat to a small boat to get to shore. It costs 20 Pesos. Then it takes “about” 20-30 minutes to get to the resort by motorcycle. It’s on the far part of the island. Everything and everything is on the far part of the island. The resort has; a dormitory, deluxe & executive rooms, swimming pool, restaurant, so-called fitness centre (I saw a one machine with some weights set by), close by beach & breakfast (IF you pay for it). Later I paid for it. ($7.00 USD) The breakfast is a choice. (See pictures/photos). There is a menu. You get 1 item. I had an omelet, 1 piece of toast & a cup of black coffee. Tuesday I added a fruit plate to my breakfast. The room has; a queen size bed, a mini-fridge with drinks that I not buy, a small flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a small safety box, a larger cabinet for clothes, 3 small cabinets, one desk, coffee, tea, sugar & cups, one small desk & a balcony with some place you can sit (a lounge). The TV has an USB connection that did NOT work either! Neither music, photos or movies/videos. I had someone explain the USB connection. It works now. The bathroom has; 2 towels, 2 tissues, 2 small soaps & shampoo & a hot water shower. The Wi-fi Internet is pretty terrible, man. It takes 5-7 minutes OR MORE to check an email AT A MINIMUM! I stayed here for two weeks. I came on February 3, 2020. I did NOT use the internet on Monday. On Tuesday there is NO internet (Wi-Fi). They gave an option for 1 day TC Premium with a password. That did NOT work either! Wednesday & Thursday did NOT work! On Friday, after diving I was suppose to get the wi-fi; SLOWLY, it works EXTREMELY SLOWLY!!!!!!!!!!!! There’s ZERO bars on the wi-fi notice-that’s on the bottom of the page = taskbar. I’m suppose to get a new router? It takes 1:26:00 to send ONE Email!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Friday February 7, 2020 there IS NO internet. I was suppose to get a used router YESTERDAY, (they said) & they NEED to CHARGE IT UP! Why Not charge it up yesterday so I can use it? It’s Saturday at 5:35 AM There IS NO internet. I have the used router & IT’S CHARGED BUT NO internet. It’s on BUT???? FINALLY, it started BUT I takes OVER 10 minutes to connect to the internet. I’M STOPPING NOW!! On Saturday, after diving, (17:30) I had a router (used) to use. I would NOT work. It worked for 2 minutes & then DEAD! 6 (Six) days NO internet! Sunday; I moved to reception….so far it works. The I moved to the restaurant AND everyone works their internet/laptop there. Note; It takes on February 5, 2020 to download something OVER a HOUR to download 8.9 MB. (That’s Mega-Bytes). I give the data about downloading 8.9 MB; It’s failed OVER 5 times, it takes 10-60 kbs OR LESS to download, 3” left, 5” left, 6” left, 1.2 hours left & on & on & on & on. In reality it download speed is from .6 kbs (That is point 6 kbs < 1 kbs) to anywhere from (IF the internet works) to 50-60 kbs. (That IS kibibytes per second). SOLUTION Equals UPGRADE the Internet!!!!!!!! I want to use the internet/Wi-Fi in my room NOT in the restaurant OR reception! I want to use it while listening to music & podcasts of MY own kind. Let’s PRETEND; EVERYONE (ALL Customers) IS on the internet (Wi-Fi). Let’s PRETEND; EVERYONE it’s a holiday; NO diving, ALL people including the dive crew are ON the internet. Then let’s make the internet (Wi-Fi) for ALL to use! FYI; Thresher Cove Dive Resort takes USD & EU cash BUT they charge 10% AND they take credit cards BUT they charge 5%. Please note Malapascua is a small island & fresh water has to be shipped from the mainland, wells on the island sometimes have salty water OR brackish water. You have to shampoo JUST about everyday. Added; On the way here from Maya (boat); it takes a motorcycle (50 Pesos) about 7-10 minutes to get to the resort. On the way back to Maya by boat Thresher Cove Dive Resort sends two guys with motorcycles to carry your gear. They take you right to the boat pier. Nice for them!

Stayed here for 7 nights. I booked a package which included my rescue course and 5 nights accommodation. Staff: All of the staff were amazing! I love how they all remember your name. They are all helpful and friendly. The instructors and dive masters were awesome! The boat crew were fab! Big thanks to Steven for being patient and getting me through the rescue course! Accommodation: I stayed in one of the divers dorm. At first, it was a little overwhelming with how many people were in the dorm. But it was spacious, and due to people going on diving trips etc.. it never felt too crowded. The bathrooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. Light and plug socket next to every bed. Diving: The thresher shark dives are fab! Although very crowded due to every dive centre going to the same site, at the same time. I would suggest to do the thresher shark dive at least twice. My first dive wasn’t so successful with the sharks, but second dive was amazing! It’s just luck. I also went on day trips to Gato Island and Kalangaman Island. Both were fantastic! The diving equipment is in good condition. I like how you have your own box during your stay, so whatever equipment you use, it is yours until the end of your stay. Courses: Many people complete courses on this island. Thresher Cove is very efficient and doesn’t cut corners. I really enjoyed my rescue course, and glad that I completed it here. I would totally recommend doing a course here! Good prices too! Food: So the restaurant has 4 different menus, which I find bizarre. Although, most of the time I chose from the “backpackers” menu as it was so delicious. You pay for everything at the end of your stay. The island: Thresher Cove is on the opposite side of the island where it’s not so busy. I liked this. It was only a short walk or motorbike taxi to where it was all happening. Lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. Travelling solo: I met some amazing people here whilst travelling solo. Everyone is there for the same reason: to dive. It was easy to meet and chat with new people. They have a pool table, where we gathered at night to chat about our day, have a drink etc.. I would 100% recommend staying and diving with Thresher Cove!

It's all about the diving! The divemasters and staff at Thresher Cove were warm and friendly. The dive shop is incredibly efficient, safe, and organized. Desh has the shop operating in top form! The resort has a great mix of young and old from all walks of life- all who are passionate about diving! The facilities are basic, but they're are comfortable. The restaurant has budget options and a wide variety of food for every palate. Can't wait for the next opportunity to go back!

I like this resort. Out of the way (away from Bounty Beach) has its own beach. The beach is safe, but as the tide goes out a long way difficult to use for swiming. Pool nice, used also for diver training. Rooms good, clean, nice size, Aircon good, bathroom OK. No ceiling fan. Dive team great, for learning and leisure. Dive sites are good (try and get them to take you local diving, you don't have to go to Gato Island evry day). Food good (better than the state of the menus) Recommandations: - If you have a lots of bagage ask the hotel for help (private boat to the hotel from Maya), you can share with others arriving the same day and time. - If you have little to no bagage then take a motorbike when you get to the beach; 100 peso well spent, you can't walk. Could do better, nothing major: - A bit more local choice of food. - Although pretty good, rethink the B'fask menu choices. - Install some hammocks - Finish painting the outside (le rooms have been finished.) - Rethink the installation of the Wifi acess points. Great stay, I shall be back at another time to get a better look at the sharks in clear water. Thanks

Where to start with this review. I have to be honest that that the resort was not what we expected when we arrived but it grew on us. On first impression it needs some work. It is basic but very clean. The staff is super friendly and could not do more for you. We also arrived when there was a 2 day festival going on which we have been made aware of with music until 3am and during the whole day. We been told what the festival was about and had no issue with it as they celebrated the survival of the Typhoon. Room: We had an aircon delux room which is basic but very clean. The housekeeping staff comes in every day to clean which is great. The shower is only saltwater and you still feel sticky afterwards. You also get fresh bottled water every day. Restaurant: The food was generally very good, we only had a burger which tasted weird and the fries were undercooked. The red Thai curry and the normal curry are to die for and we also loved the pancakes in the morning . You can get unlimited free glasses of water in the restaurant. The only downfall at the restaurant is that most of the days things were not available. One day we only really could have omelette for breakfast as there was no cheese, no crepe, no butter, no eggs Benedict, no mango, no pineapple (I guess island life) Diving: Amazing diving and even better dive instructors. We had a refresher with Ronel and he went through everything and was very patient and we also did our AOW with Steven and he was amazing. We can can highly recommend Steven and Ronel. We did see Thresher sharks and had a great time Staff in general was super friendly and helpful and the resort is run by local village people. We can recommend the resort and would stay there again.

Staff - We had an excellent three day stay at Thresher Cover. All the. staff, from the dive masters, to the waiters, to the dive support team, to the house keeping staff were lovely and so friendly. Everyone was highly professional, while also knowing how to have a joke with their. guests. Communication - Prior to booking we'd contacted a number of dive companies on the island to enquiry about diving, and no one responded - Thresher responded about accomodation and dive. enquiries within a matter of hours. Their communication was great. Room - We stayed in a Double Room and it was fantastic. There is no fresh water on the island (so we were told) so the showers are salt water. You never quite feel clean, but of course this is all part of the experience! :) Location - The resort isn't on the beachfront like the other restaurants and dive centres. However, We enjoyed this as it felt as though we had our own mini slice of Malapascua! It may make it more complicated if you wanted to do other things or if you were travelling with non-divers however because we were there to focus on diving, not exploring the island, it suited our circumstances. You do have to get a motorbike with your luggage to the resort, which could be tricky with suitcases, however the resort would assist you if this was the case (we just didn't book early enough to enquire about this). Food - The restaurant is also fantastic, with the best breakfast and smoothie options we had in the Philippines. Their wifi was also the best we'd had outside of Cebu/Manila! Diving - All the dive masters were fantastic, and we saw some creatures that only very experienced dive masters would be able to find. This was a real highlight, as this can make or break a dive trip! Their equipment was the best we found in the Phillipines - everything looked practically new. Their boat was also well equipped, and they were highly organised. Their whiteboard, dive schedule, labelled equipment boxes made everything so easy and relaxing. I would have preferred for my dives to have a final price, as opposed to the breakdown at the end (i.e. dives are exclusive of site fees, rental, food, fuel etc), however that's just my preference for the. way I like to pay for things. I'm sure there are others that prefer the breakdown structure to see where their money is going! :) All in all, we loved our stay here! Highly recommended!! :)

I was at Thresher Cove Dive Resort to dive, of course. Fundives for a couple of days and stayed in the dormitory. I was surprised how pleasantly i found this to be. The only downside of Thresher Cove is that it is in a isolated place: a motorbike to the more populated part of the island is really cheap and takes you maybe 10 minutes though. 1 suggestion for Thresher Cove: DO NOT ASK MONEY FOR DRINKING WATER - DIVERS NEED TO DRINK PLENTY

First of all thanks for your review and I'm pleased you had a good time. With reference to your point about drinking water. We provide FREE water by the glass and only charge for bottle fills and bottled water. We try to discourage use of bottled water to reduce environmental impact. It costs us about 20php/litre to provide water as there is no supply on the island, it all has to be brought to the island by boat. I hope that clears it up for anyone who may be concerned. Thanks Thresher Cove Team,

So I'll break this into three parts, the accommodation, restaurant and diving :) The accommodation is really good value for money, the rooms are tidy and clean with good aircon. The resort made every effort to get us on the last boat at 5.30 pm and had staff waiting to greet us on the beach, the staff are all very friendly and made us feel welcome. Exceeded our expectations for a remote island. Restaurant, the food was tasty and plentiful, there were times where certain foods weren't available due to no stock, however there is plenty of selection so you definitely won't starve :) The diving, we sat our Advanced Diving Course with Ida. Ida is a great instructor making my wife and I comfortable from the get go, she is very knowledgable and friendly, I would highly recommend her if your going to dive with Thresher Cove Dive Resort. Overall we were very happy with our stay!
