I booked a Superior room for 3 nights. Check in was simple. My room was a decent size and the bed comfortable enough. The shower and toilet were two separate rooms. The cable TV worked well. It required using two remotes but I had to turn on from the TV as the remote probably needed new batteries. The aircon worked well albeit a little noisy. I turned it off to sleep. The hot water shower was only enough to take the edge off cold even after being advised to let it run for 3 minutes but the following days it was warm. The shower rose was old and could certainly do with being replaced. After checking I noticed there was no soap provided. A trip to reception and soap was provided. Also, the shower light was not working, another trip to reception and the globe was replaced immediately. Bedside lamp did not work (globe replacement?). Only toilet paper is provided as there is no bum gun or pail/bucket. The overall lighting was good for island standards. Private patio area with table and seating. Bin on balcony not emptied unless requested. Room clean also upon request. Booking.com states Fan (I had none), Minibar (I had none) and Key Access should read key in door lock. One night I had a cockroach in my bed which freaked me out. I hate cockroaches. I couldn't go to sleep after that ending up staying up all night watching TV. Maybe if they used some insect surface spray it might help. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to the Bounty beach area. Given my senior years beachfront accommodation would probably have suited me better. In summary, the staff are friendly and try to do their best. Small irritations are part and parcel of island life except for that cockroach getting too friendly.…
The food was absolutely brilliant, highly recommended the chop sue (only thing I tried to be honest). The three ladies working at reception were so helpful and accomidating! The room is very basic, but you do have the option of adding extra money for aircon. Bed was good, space was good. Shower pressure wasn't good, but we used our dive resorts shower most of the time. Great place overall
Everything was great from the moment I set foot at Moonlight. All the people working there were exceptionally polite, courteous, and helpful. My room was always clean, safe, and nice grounds outside. Food was great and came to order as I wanted. Had an exceptional time with staff drinking and laughing on my last night after many, many scuba dives with French Kiss Divers. Both Moonlight and French Kiss gave me discounts for utilizing the two in conjunction. Exceptional staff. Just one thing. Remember to bring your own alarm clock for those early morning dives to Gato, because even the roosters won't be crowing yet. Have a great time with Chona, Rouly, Kenneth, Jessa, Marticeda, Tomas, Ailyn, Pamela, and Feliciano. Tell them Mark sent you and just enjoy.Very friendly place. Regards, M. Horsley…
It was a cute and cheap little resort but that's about it. Malapascua has a beautiful beach so I would suggest you stay along Bounty Beach. If you are a scuba diver and wants to dive with thresher sharks at 5am, this isn't the place for you. The distance from here to Bounty beach(where all the other restaurants are) is a good 10-15 minute walk which is not a problem during the day. There is a lack of lamp posts (generally around the island) so it was a bit of a problem for me as I was traveling solo. I had to arrange a bike ride from the resort to Bounty Beach at 4:30am for the early morning thresher dive. I stayed there for three nights and not a single day did I get room service. I never asked as I was always out (scuba, island hopping) but I dont remember putting the do not disturb sign on the door.…
We spent 7 nights in Moonlight but we don't recommend this resort because we did not have a good stay there for several reasons: - the staff was not really welcoming and not professional at all. From 9pm, nobody is there to attend your needs (extra blanket (the A/C goes directly on the bed and can't be directed) or water for instance), only a watchman who does not understand english. - the breakfast was poor... although it was included in our rate, we did not eat there in the morning. - we did not have hot water in the shower for several days. The reason that was given to us was unacceprable: they had closed the warm water because clients did not want it and were not able to use their own tap for having only cold water! - no wifi in the room. - the cleaning up was not done on the terrace and the rubbish were left over unless YOU ask for cleaning. - the noise is very disturbing all the time because of the motorcycles passing by. Well, as another reviewer said, it's cheap and in that case you get what you paid for. …
Moonlight Resort was my mistake. I suggest you to be wise and do not make such mistake, only in case you really want to stay there. From internet descriptions it seemed to be a good resort. In fact it is a small resort of few rooms, with a garden, and breakfast area. But the facilities are far beyond expectation. At first the owner gave us a room which did not comply with our booking. Had to discuss, prove the written bookings etc. Finally were given another room. But……. In my sink the water was flowing to the bucket which was just under it, so be ready for “Donald Duck dish washing – water dropping” sensation. You have a tea/coffee making facility, but you have to pay for the coffee/creamer. The room was equipped with fan, but at peak temperatures which just occurred we asked for possibility to switch on the AC (room was equipped with it). It was to be charged extra, so be prepared to pay 12 € / 15 USD for 1 night of using of AC….. On Malapascua you have a white beach, behind that are hotels and dive centres, after that is a local village area, after that starts jungle with no single lamp and only after that, behind a hill, you find a Moonlight Resort, probably most furthermost resort on Malapascua. Getting there with a wheeled suitcase is a great challenge, so in my opinion it is mainly for backpackers. If you return late in the evening bring a torch so you will see the road among bushes and stones…… The resort is also VERY noisy as plenty of motorbikes are passing by 7/24 I am not sure if I can recommend this resort……… If I booked a cheap one, I got what I paid for…..…
booked it via booking.com for one night, which turned to be quite fortunate as we didnt like the place. for what it offers it is overpriced and we didnt find the people running this place friendly.you can get less expensive and nicer places on the beach. If you still plan to there try to avoid being put to one of the two rooms up the hill, as they are completely exposed to the sun. In combination with the resort being somewhere inland, it is getting very hot and nighttime sleep is a challenge.
With my husband we stayer there three nights. The rooms are good and not toi far from the main beach (5-10min walking). The wifi connexion works pretty well. The food at the reception restaurant is expensive but not bad. The breakfast is also good but we asked twice for more toasts and they charged us at the end 100 pesos for it!!! Which is a looooot, you can have a delicious meal (fish curry, chicken tomato etc) for less than 100 pesos at Gin Gin restaurant... Overall if you decide to stay at moonlight it is not a bad option for those with a small buget but I would recommend to not eat there. If we have the chance to come back we will try another place...
Rooms are tidy and newly renovated. Air conditioning works well. Surrounding is quiet. Some motorbike traffic is going by the hotel but it is not disturbing. Walking to Bounty beach takes about 10-15 minutes. Not a big deal. Water pressure is not high but you can wash with it. Breakfast is ok. The private transportation left a bit bad taste to mouth. Our driver started asking for several hundred tip even though we paid 4500 peso for the ride.
We stumbled upon this resort going around the island on foot. We basically just walked around on the beach and followed paths where the beach ends. This resort is located in the island's interior but bear in mind that one can walk across from one beach side to another in 20 minutes perhaps. We stopped to have a drink in their cafe/restaurant and from their drinks list we ordered banana shake mixed with rum. The lady who worked behind the bar got to making our shakes. She was not the quickest in preparing drinks but she made up for it as it tasted perfect. The resort is built in what looks like a flower, fruits and vegetable garden. There are several fruit bearing trees giving shade. We were shown the room which we were told ranges from 1,500 to 2,500. The room is clean and bright. The bed looks comfortable and I like the design of separate shower room and toilet. That is so practical. Their price is about half of what we paid for in our beach front resort. There is no dive center in Moonlight but for holidaymakers on a budget and after doing some diving, I can say this is good place to stay and hook up with any dive center in the island independently. This place is family run vs team of staff in bigger resorts. There are good and not so good sides to that but overall if one is not so fussy and if you ask nicely, in my experience travelling, everything can be addressed.…
