Rooms – I stayed in room 219 which was extremely convenient for both the hotel, pool and beach. The room was huge and even had a little armchair and coffee table as well as all the facilities mentioned on their website. Although there were two beds joined together the mattress was a super king so was extremely comfortable. There was a kettle and fridge in the room, and the supplies were refilled daily. The TV had English channels which made a pleasant change.
Location - A few steps away from the beach, there are several little coves which are sheltered so provide calm, clear waters to get into and out of the sea. We managed to snorkel several times which was really good fun.
There is a lovely clean promenade that leads to the shops, town and marina. I walked there most days and felt very safe walking alone. If you go out of the back entrance to the hotel the ‘Mall’ is a few minutes’ walk where they have a number of shops including a large supermarket. There is a bus stop about 10 minutes away and you can get buses to a number of places, the reception staff will give you a bus timetable. There is also a little tourist train that goes from outside the Atlantica shopping centre, it is supposed to go every 30 minutes but is a bit random!
Pools – There are 3 pools, but only one was heated, I think. Although it was good to cool off, you couldn’t really swim in it as it was too shallow. The big pool which was good for swimming was cold, although several our group swam in there and said it was fine after the initial shock of entering the water.
Entertainment – There was daily entertainment and every evening there was something different in the Venue. Upstairs in the bar they often had singers / musicians.
Food – The food really was exceptional. There was a huge choice, probably one of the largest selections I have seen and all extremely good quality. They had themed meals as well which were superb.
I have a gluten allergy and when I mentioned it on the first night, Daniel the restaurant manager called the head chef and showed me all the foods I could have and couldn’t have. Every day they would look after me and explain what was in the foods. There is a little gluten free section for breakfast where they have items such as gluten free bread and there is even a separate toaster to avoid contamination.
I very rarely go back to the same place but would not hesitate to stay here again, it really was a first rate hotel.
We were a little disappointed with the room; the only extras we received were dressing gowns, slippers and a coffee machine. The room was exactly the same as a standard double and we ended up with a smaller balcony? The rooms definitely need an update; the bathrooms are very tired and need ripping out. It has a very 90s feel about it.
As the hotel was at such low capacity, the main dining area and Broadway Lounge was closed. We ate all our meals in the Tucan restaurant and the only bar was in the lobby. We were disappointed with the selection of food available and it was very repetitive. There wasn't much on offer for vegetarians and as I don't each a lot of meat, I struggled some days to find a suitable meal. But we didn't starve and we understood the difficulties the hotel were having.
I have to say that all the staff we encountered were lovely, very polite and nothing was too much trouble.
Masks had to be worn at all times unless you were eating/drinking and hand sanitiser was available in reception, restaurant and the lifts. All staff were wearing masks and most guests complied.
Pool area was very nice and there are plenty of sunbeds to choose from. One area of the pool was heated and the other side was obviously very cold; not that we braved it!
The closest beach is a 6 min walk from the hotel but the sun loungers had been removed so you had to provide your own seating.
Caleta Town centre is a brisk 25 min walk away which we did on a regular basis during the day but only did a couple of times in the evening due to most restaurants/bars being closed.
The hotel is next to the Atlantico Shopping Centre so we used the restaurants there when we wanted a change from the hotel.
All in all, we had a lovely relaxing break and the weather was fabulous. We would stay here again if the rooms were upgraded.
The food in the main buffet was perfect for us; salads, choice of meats, fish, pasta and usual pizza/chips/sausage/burger for the kids. breakfast;cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, Ham, cheese, freshly made pancakes, fried eggs & omelettes, we were not keen on the bacon and sausages but this was not an issue, my favourite evening buffet was the fish night - prawns and mussels wow! Evening meal Pretty much the same as lunch buffet with a few extra options like the daily roasted joint, the only advice I would give is don’t turn up 15 mins before the end.
I would give the Italian a miss and stick to the buffet as we were not that impressed, starter; off the cold buffet stand which had a good selection but had an issue with flies in the Tucan Grill, kind of put you off, main course was a choice of meat/fish with stone cold veg (sprouts, carrots etc), we left before the dessert so can not comment.
Drink...apart from needing a week to recover, this was a massive plus for us, we struggle drinking low quality local brands. Smirnoff, decent brandy, what more could we want, we certainly took advantage of the all inclusive. The house wine was drinkable too, at meal times we were impressed with the glass water bottles and bottles of wine freely available to accompany meals.
Rooms were ample big enough, shower could do with a little more power, but hey ho we were on holiday, it just meant a longer shower. Towels changed Daily, as for the sandstorm, yes it was inconvenient not being able to use the balcony for 2 days without walking the sand back into the room, but as soon as the storm had finished the cleaners sorted it - what a task that must of been.
Those that complained need to get a life.
Location: sea view was perfect, sunrise was beautiful and the daily walk from the hotel to the town was a pleasure.
Entertainment, we did not visit downstairs as we have no kids and preferred the bar upstairs, there was a live singer every other night which was very good, we had our bose speaker and Apple play so we sat out on the balcony and made our own entertainment on the other nights, a bit of decent background music is possibly missing in the bar upstairs, on occasions this did happen.
There was a nice mix of people staying in the hotel and we met some lovely people, bigger percentage of British which makes a change.
All in all, fantastic holiday and we did not want to leave (another first), we will be back .
We were AI and found the food to our liking there was always something different to try and was presented to a very good standard the staff were all friendly and polite. We visited the Italian a la carte which is situated in the daytime poolside restuarant, we had seen previous comments about this venue not being up to standard but we thought that it was a nice spacious area to dine in with a relaxed atmosphere. The food that we chose was very nice, it made a nice change from the buffet restuarant and the waiting staff were very good.
The hotel was not particularly busy during the duration of our stay and to be honest the weather was not brilliant but you must expect that in January. The entertainment was a bit hit and miss but this did not really affect us as there was always something to do, the live singers in the lobby bar were always well supported.
If you are looking for things to do the local town is easily access on foot along the seafront and the local golf course is just across the road, there is also a large shopping centre next to the hotel and the local market is an easy walk from the hotel..
The location of the hotel was really good. It was right on the beach but within a 20 minute walk, along a coastal path into the resort centre. There was a shopping centre just next to the hotel that had a supermarket, so handy for buying water and snacks. There were plenty sun beds around the swimming pools and daily entertainment for adults and kids. Entertainment in the evening was low key but just fine for us. The animation team were very good and all the staff at the hotel were hard working, pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel manager, Daniel, mingled with the guests and was polite and very helpful.
If I was to say anything negative about the hotel, it would be a very small point that housekeeping needs better organising, as a few times, no-one had been in to clean our room and sometimes our towels had been taken away to the laundry and forgot to be replaced. As I say just a small point but it did get sorted out in the end.
We were on half board basis which we prefer. The food in the restaurant was really good and plenty of choice. I am fussy and picky with food but I always found something nice to eat. The Gala dinners on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve were wonderful.
On return from a day trip we had to Lanzarote for my husband’s birthday, We found that a bottle of Champaign and two glasses had been put in our room. How lovely of the staff.
Our thanks to all the staff at the hotel who made my Husband's birthday holiday at the Elba Sara very memorable
On arrival it took 45 minutes in a queue to be checked in. We booked a double room with a sea view but the girl behind the desk gave us room 111 which was on the ground floor & did not have a sea view yet had a pool table & table tennis view? She assured us that we could see the sea! Very annoyed we went back to reception to complain & we were moved to room 353 which does have a sea view but has zero sun on the balcony & is side facing so no privacy. We put up with this room as Jet2 Holidays had already delayed our flight by 1 day and we just wanted to get on with our holiday.
We were asked for 4 Euros a day for safe hire which we paid. We unpacked & went to put our valuables in the safe which was not working. Again we had to contact reception who said a workman would fix the safe in 5 minutes. We chose to go to dinner. When we came back at 9.30pm the safe was not fixed. Yet again we called reception about this problem. We were told a workman would come again and that we should have been in our room the first time we reported the safe was not working. We were not told this! Eventually the workman fixed our safe & we could go to sleep!
We felt the Hotel did not have enough staff in the restaurants, bars and reception and we had to help ourselves to drinks numerous times in the restaurant as no one asked us if we would like a drink. We paid for an all inclusive package and felt we did not get our monies worth. The young boys at the bar and in the restaurant worked really hard so we tipped them for their great efforts. Their drink measures were generous & they were very nice people. We too thought the Animation team were nice and worked very hard.
Sunbathing was a joke at this hotel due to really uncomfortable sun beds, very annoying when you pay good money to relax.
Location is ok, relaxing but not much to do. Weather was nice.
Room cleaning and room was very disappointing. Cobwebs, not cleaned thoroughly, beds made but with little effort & bugs in the room. Cracked bathroom sink which was very unhygienic & I’ve put pictures of the room on this review to show what we had to put up with. This hotel must do much better for the price they charge!
Will never go back.
Food - Having stayed at the hotel on a number of occasions, we found that the food wasn't quite as good as previous occasions in terms of choice and quite often was quite cold.
Facilities- We enjoyed relaxing around the pool area and the grounds were kept very clean, the one suggestion I would give is that the sun loungers could do with a deep clean as I to clean them with anti bac wipes each day before use.
Overall though, loved it and can't wait to return again soon!
Hotel is right by the beach and there is a supermarket and shopping arcade and a few cafes/restaurants next door but not near to much else.
Food was pretty good with different selections each night but could do with plates being warm.
New Years eve food and entertainment was great for adults and kids.
Takes a long time to check in and if there is a lot of people waiting to check in you can't get to a member of staff if you want to do something quick like change towels but the staff were all very helpful. Our first rooms didn't have a full seaview and were quite a way from main areas but we asked to be moved which was sorted. Large room for myself and my 2 children.
I recommend taking a trip to the Oasis Park - free shuttle bus from hotel and took about 45 mins to get there. I was concerned about the weather before we went as it was Dec/Jan but it was nice and sunny, a bit windy on some days but nothing major and just a bit cooler at night.
