This Grand old Dame gives us the Best views of Ericeira. It shows its age in every corner, but the Junior Suites are impressive with huge balconies and expansive views. Stayed twice in 2020, and off season was so much better. August was quite hectic, even during a pandemic. They now have an indoor pool available you need to book, that we very much enjoyed (all to ourselves). I believe Vila Galé invests very little in this unit because it remains quite popular. Still, rooms and all the exterior furniture do need renovation and a quality upgrade. Ericeira was overly populated this summer, so much so I used a mask outside walking the streets. Would highly recommend going off season.
A very nice old style Mansion on the cliffs with its own charme. Several pools overlooking the ocean. The rooms are old but clean. I booked the hotel because of its special atmosphere. The terrace is wonderful also overlooking the ocean where you can sit for hours drinking coffee and reading a book.
a huge hotel (200 rooms), with an old-style, very nice rooms with a view of the sea, full facilities in the hotel, very good breakfast, a swimming pool, with gardens and nearby to a beautiful beach of Ericeira
Stayed here 30 years ago when it was the Hotel Tourismo and could have stood in for the Grand Budapest Hotel but it's been massively done up and is now a great place to stay in Ericeira. We had a room with balcony overlooking the sea and pools. Spent 4 nights in all, a day around the pool and evenings watching the waves crashing against the rocks. A good base for Ericeira and touring round. Staff very helpful and friendly, breakfast great and it has parking - hooray! If you want a kettle and tea etc you have to ask at reception (free), same with lock for the safe (chargeable). Sad to leave.
What this hotel has going for it is the location, which is wonderful. We had a room with a balcony and it was lovely to hear the Atlantic all night and see it in the morning. Beyond that, the room was OK and quite comfortable, but with only one chair. Overall it's a formerly grand-ish hotel that has faded over time, but retains its former pretensions. Many things that you would expect to find in a 4 star hotel are only available at extra cost (e.g.safe!) Breakfast was quite good but coffee dire (in big urns, kept hot over a flame - like British hotels in the last century ) and not a huge choice for non-meat eaters. Given the wonderful fruit available in the local market you might expect a better fruit choice and some fresh orange juice. We ate once in the restaurant. The buffet was full of coach parties and very noisy, so we ate from the a la carte menu in a slightly quieter corner. Pleasant enough but once again, not of a standard to warrant the price, fish rather dry and bread costs extra! Other restaurants in the town are a much better bet.…
