Sulu Sunset Resort, a real gem at Sugar Beach...!! We stayed three nights in one of their spacious and comfortable bungalows, surrounded by beautiful lush gardens and with great views over the Sulu Sea. Indeed the sunsets here are magical. Our bungalow was clean, functional and had a nice veranda with a small bamboo table and chairs, plus two relaxing hammocks to enjoy the sounds of nature while reading our books. Apart from the bungalows they also have smaller (simpler, cheaper) cottages, which looked attractive as well. The whole place is very well-kept and shows that the owners are taking good care of their property. The atmospheric restaurant dishes up the best food at Sugar Beach. It doesn’t matter what you order, everything is delicious! Very reasonable prices. Service is super friendly and efficient. The bar has an extensive range of drinks. Good (lounge) music too. Sugar Beach is definitely one of the most idyllic beaches you’ll come across in the Philippines. But - as it should be - it takes some effort to reach paradise... It’s a good idea to let the staff of the resort know your time of arrival in Sipalay, as they are happy to assist you with the last part of getting to their place. Especially after dark it’s pretty complicated to reach Sugar Beach without having arranged something. Anyway, don’t worry, all your efforts will be highly rewarded once you walk in the gate of the Sulu Sunset Resort. And soon you’ll find yourself, day after day, gazing at the sun going down into the Sulu Sea, seated in your wooden beach chair under the palm trees, with your chilled San Miguel in your hand... The beautiful life! We found it hard to leave and recommend the Sulu Sunset Resort to anybody looking for a quiet piece of paradise, still far from karaoke bars and Chinese tour groups... …
If its your first time visiting this part of Negros Occidental finding the Sulu Sunset Beach resort can be a little challenging. Hint, Google Maps will get you close but does not know the way there. The trick is when you find Sipalay City Hall off of the main road, call the resort and they will give easy directions from there. Surprise! We did not expect to have to take a boat ride to the resort but it was a very nice ride. Expect to get your feet wet. Make sure you park your car at the correct place and do not take boat ride from people that are not connected to the resort. On arrival at the resort we were greeted by a very friendly Filipina Staff. Sally and Grace were a true pleasure. We rented a Bungalow for me and my girlfriend and rented a cottage for two other family members. We were all taken to our accomodations and were very satisfied. Bungalow and Cottage was clean. Bungalow had double bed and Cottage had two single beds. Rooms had operating warm water showers, nice toilets with towels, soap and toilet paper. (if u expect these things in the Phils then u have not traveled here much haha). Rooms also had a secure safe box with a key and plenty of space for your personal items. The bar and restaurant area has a very relaxing tropical feel. The staff was friendly and got my drinks quickly. The Resort is owned by a very nice German Man named Yogi along with his son David. Both are very nice and do what they can to make you feel satisfied with your stay. Yogi helped us coordinate a very nice boat ride with snorkeling on a ship wreck and coral rocks. Total time was about three hours. The food at the resort restaurant was very good but be prepared to wait about 45 minutes to one hour to get your food because everything is freshly made and tastes very good. The Beach is superb. Very Clean sand with no garbage and I pray it always stays that way. The Sea water is very clean with great visibility and a sand bottom floor. No coral rocks or sharp objects. Shallow water goes out about 50 meters from shore. Overall, I was very happy to spend a few days in this island paradise. The only slight complaint i have is the mosquitos and ants but thats what you get in the tropics haha. Go and relax and recharge at the Sulu Sunset Beach Resort!!…
After we ordered our food we asked for the Wifi Password. The answer was clear and unfriendly. Wifi is only available for our overnight staying guests! We never experienced that before..... We left immediately
Honestly we never stay here for a night, we stayed in takatuka on other side of the beach, but we was there twice in the restaurant and looking in the resrot and garden. Restaurant is nice a peaceful with amazing view. Food is good and cottages and garden look very nice and comfy. Sugar beach is great place for chill out.
The resort is a bit off beat. After a long land travel, we need to take a 20 minute boat ride. However, the resort is a paradise. Nice, well maintained garden, nipa hut set up but clean and everything is working. It has a beautiful sand floored restaurant that served Filipino and international food. Price is affordable and tastes really good. Beach is not to our expectation but surprisingly, we enjoyed it much. Reason being, the water is very quiet and all sand, no rocks and water floor is all through out receding. Resort staff are very accommodating and the owner Yogie is always ready to help. I liked it more that he is very hands on on the maintenance of the resort and having fun with his staff while they work together doing construction and cleaning jobs. Yes, he works with the staff doing menial jobs. His lovely little tot Natalie makes us smile. Their dog Rody, will sit and show off. Plus the neighbors dog who became our watch dog, will sit under our table and follows us around; makes us feel safe all the time. One thing important for the likes of me, wifi signal is really really good.…
I ve spent 4 nights in a nippa (1000 pesos/night) and I recomnand it to any travelers looking for a break in paradise. The view is beautiful, you can swim in the sea or chill on the beach. There is nothing much to do. I did one island hopping for one day and it worth it. The place is quiet, far from crowd. All the staff and the owner are very kind. Food is good. Dont hesitate its the place to stay !
We had THE most wonderful time here. The staff are just incredible SO friendly, happy and just so attentive. The owner made a real effort to speak to us everyday and give us tips etc. The hut was wonderful value for money (we had one of the a frames) the cold shower ones were all gone so we had a hot shower one (Luke warm max!) the only disappointment was that we were there 6days and no cleaning was done whatsoever. When we got there we discovered stains on our pillows anyway. However I had to empty the bin (full of used toilet roll) myself, we were just given a bag when I told them it needed emptying. I don't mind doing this but not on holiday! The room had started smell so it was a necessity! That and the limited food menu are my only quibbles, the rest was outstanding! Wonderful beach too, snorkelling you won't see many fish as we were told overfishing is a huge problem in the area. …
What a great place to unwind. A place where I can say that is truly away from the rushing around in the city. Best tasting food. Friendly owner. Best view for the sunset. Affordable price. Nice interior of the room. Highly recommended to the one that is planning to be away from the city to relax, unwind, chill and have a vacation.
Got there for 3 days, I thought, stayed 10. I'll probably still be over there if I hadn't to extend my visa. What can I say? white sand beach, cheap but comfortable bungallows with fans or air cond, hammock on the front of the bungallows, view on a beautiful garden for the cheapest bungallows (650 & 850 pesos) and over the sea for the others, food is excellent, the staff as well as the german/philippina owners, speaking a very good english are very friendly. everything you need is there and makes you feel as you found the last peacefull place in the world. The only thing a bit annoying was the difficult connection with the wifi but who need wifi in paradise? But really it was perfect! For those who have a doubt I'm not German! :)
Excellent. Sugar Beach is fantastic - sand is smooth and endless, beautiful sunsets. Isolated (except for the resorts that line the back of the beach - no road connects Sugar Beach to Sipalay so only Bangka (Boat) transport can be done, or a Trike then rowboat) so no hawkers with plastic pearls. We set up our beach shelter on the beach for all day with no worries. Sulu Sunset is very relaxing (benefit is that it is very near the end of the beach, so a headland keeps the sea calm and quieter) - the food is in large portions and extremely tasty. There is a free billiard table, free wifi, free puppies (to watch). This is couple friendly, solo friendly (just talk to anyone), family friendly (beach and water very safe for kids) and a great stay at the right price. The hospitable and very friendly owners are able to deal with any nationality of visitor, there is a good book selection for German visitors. Comedy and relaxation are the orders of the day. It is the best of the beaches so far seen in the Phillipines and a cracking gem of a chilled resort with a friendly atmosphere. Do yourself a favour and go - also if you think 2 nights prepare for 4 instead and stock up on reading material or write a book yourself. Note - we also went diving with a (none-resort connected) company, Scuba Planet - excellent viz - Danjugan Island (the Clams) and Turtle Island (El Punto) - very very nice. Note 2 - snorkelling can be found from the beach if you go up along the headland that can be seen to the right. This is limited fish and rocks. More is available with a kayak rental (we did not do this as too busy stopping and relaxing)…
