I arrived for a concert having gotten lost and having to abandon my plan to stop in Sèes and was very hungry. The night before I had no dinner as in the town all the cafes and restaurants were full. Maybe it was because I was hungry but can you imagine at 3:45 on a Sunday afternoon being welcomed in and offered what the proprietors were having as it was closed? A great glass of white wine and a large plate of various classic salads. I love pickled beets salad (with a touch of cream) and grated carrot salad and it was one of the best I ever had along with the egg, ham and gherkin potato salad... they even brought water for my dog - and asked if everything was okay... okay? It’s a tidy spotless place and the food is home made, delicious and very fresh and prepared to high standards - simply done but light and delicious but it was the reception and kindness of the proprietors that made it five star. They could teach a lot of five and six star hotels that I have stayed in about hospitality and then some. …
Good location in the main market square and near to several eateries. The hotel is old-fashioned and characterful and needs some attention in areas. The towels are way past their best. I was on the top floor overlooking the main square, which was noisy with Friday night activities. For the WiFi, you are required to text a code to connect for each device, but once done the quality was excellent. Breakfast was basic with not a great deal of choice. Did the job for a one-night stay.
We use Lion D'Or for the 3 time this year when going ti Le Mans 24h. The English speaking Madame is very nice and helpfull in anyway. The room is of good quality and the bathroom is suitable. TV is only french !! Luckily we saw "Candice Renoir" an episode not shown outside France. Maybe we should learn french !! (oh no). French breakfast is for sure okay for frenchman, but strange for Danes!!! We will anytime recommend this romantic hotel, also if you want to stay some days.
A room with a good en suite bathroom? A comfy bed with fresh white cotton sheets and spare pillows? Peace and quiet? Two chairs and a desk? This is it! Throw in an excellent location, a curved classically French staircase with lopsided treads and a friendly patronne and you'll like the Lion d'Or. The associated brasserie offers perhaps over generous plates - all in all an excellent French provincial experience. My only concern is price - I think the room was perhaps 5 or 10 euros over, but I booked REALLY late on a very busy day. I think I got the last available room, which will always be the least desirable, I'd imagine I wouldn't be saying this about any of the others.
Very nice hosts, very central location in the center of the city, nearby food and drinks. Room was very well equipped and comfortable. We stayed for one night during a biking trip. My friend stranded because of a flat tire and the host suggested to pick him up, which was really helpful and friendly! Our bikes were stored safe overnight. Highly recommendable place to stay!
