My wife and I stayed at at the Barcelo Tambor for four nights. and loved it. The resort is on a beach in a protected bay so the surf is never too high. It is easy to get to - there is a domestic airstrip right next to the resort with multiple flights per day from San José. The food was great, whether it was from the buffet or one of the more formal themed restaurants on the property. Although neither my wife or I are strong Spanish speakers, we had no problem at the resort. Many of the staff speak English. The resort is geared towards families which my wife and I loved. There are plenty of activities all day long, both on site and off, to keep you from getting bored. They even have live shows every night. The rooms rooms were large and clean and the whole resort was very well maintained. I thought it was a great value and am planning on bringing my kids and grandchildren here first chance we get.…

Barcelo Tambor is absolutely beautiful and a great vacation getaway. The entertainment throughout the day and the night shows are amazing. The only bad things I have to say is that employees in restaurants can be a little rude and seem like they do not want to be there. The cleanliness of the public bathrooms can also be better. Alcoholic drinks at bars are also limited. To have a certain tequila or rum you have to pay extra. Being an all inclusive I would expect to have the beverages I enjoy. Overall we’ve enjoyed our trip.

Checked in after a long tour bus ride to be given a beautiful room overlooking the beach. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was not functioning. The phone did not work so we had to trudge all the way back to the reception area to report the problem. After 30 minutes a maintenance technician came and was unable to repair it. He said he would report this and return with a new room assignment in 20 minutes. He did not return and we trudged back to the front desk to request a new room. Instead of another room overlooking the beach we were given a room near the pool and entertainment area where all we could hear was the loud music instead of the waves. Very disappointed with this experience and I was so looking forward to this part of our tour.

They charged us an extra 15% upon arrival because they said they were functioning at 85% capacity, we didn’t argue and agreed but then they wanted to charge us 1900.00 USD to adjust an error in our reservation created by their website.the staff was mean to my entire family. The music at pool and night club was so loud our teenagers asked for it to be turned down so they could talk to each other at the pool. We got as far down the beach as possible & the waves could not drown out the loud base booming, it was so loud we had a hard time sleeping. As a family we didn’t spend time at pool because we couldn’t hear each other without yelling. there was no staff monitoring the buffet and the tong handles were put on top of the food by other guests in every dish, it was so disgusting that we often didn’t eat the food that was average at best. If you want the Pura vida relaxed kind peaceful fun vacation, don’t stay here, which is unfortunate because they do have a beautiful beach and grounds but it couldn’t make up for the noise, rudeness and disgusting buffet and rooms. …

Was amazing two week stay with my girlfriends and we never had nothing to do. Great staff and entertainment at all times of day. Breakfast was the same thing everyday but lunch, dinner and snack bar was amazing. Lots of adventures to be done on and around the resort. Highly recommend staying if you can get a good deal on it.

My reservation was March 6. I tried to cancel March 2 because my father passed away in America from March 2 to this day March 8. I still have no response. I even had to go as far as the send a bad picture of my father dead still no response, and no help whatsoever with cancellation, or even moving to the end of April Five different people emails phone calls no response whatsoever. They’ve already taken my $612. This is very disappointing for such a hotel they’re like vultures to take your money and not give it back.

Disappointing stay. The rooms are old, outdated and full of mold. Did I mention dirty ? After taking a shower I walked around the room to gather my clothes and the bottom of my feet were black ! Also the resort doesn’t leave enough towels . Can’t get towels at front desk and despite repeated calls no towels were delivered. No water in fridge - again no water delivered during our 3 day stay. Food is bland and mediocre at best . Same all 3 days. Steak house restaurant was nearly the same as buffet. Not impressed. The only good thing was the beach. Beautiful views, warm water and Long Beach to walk on. I would never return to this resort if I visit CR again .

My kids and I had a very relaxing time at this beautiful comfortable resort! The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful and the food was nutritious and delicious. We had great sleep and a wonderful time.

We stayed at the Barcelo Tambor due to an airline cancellation that terminated our original plans for the Manuel Antonio area. As far as the hotel it has some pro's & con's. I have never stayed at an all inclusive where the room service cost extra. I asked about it at the desk & even a 12 yr old was standing next me (who I did not know) that stated paying extra for room service was annoying. LOL If you like a cool room in a place that is normally 90 degrees, the air conditioning here wasn't the best in the rooms. One party in our group actually got a portable unit for their room to help with the heat. The only room I found that was cool was the Premium snack room (which was barely open near our area) otherwise NO rooms on this resort had air conditioning. Such as the Steak House, Buffet area, or Italian restaurant. The entertainment was so so, not sure why they played children's cartoons on the screen when most people were adults there when there was no entertainment on stage. Again, no air conditioning in this area. As far as drinks, if you requested a certain brand of liquor, we were told it wasn't included & would have to pay more. If you ordered a Pina Colada you had to tell them you wanted liquor in it. As far as our room, it was fine, not the coolest but not the worse. It was clean, no bugs . I did notice that the bed had blood stains on the sheets & had them removed. I didn't have stained sheets after that. We had hot water & everything worked fine, They supplied us with soda pop & water daily. There was champagne & chocolate strawberries when we arrived. The pool area was very nice. The beach was good although they had a boardwalk to the beach. One of the boards was loose & someone in our party fell, hurt his arm & shoulder. On the weekends this place is very busy & they didn't have enough bartenders at the pool bar or the main bar& the wait could be long. During the week it wasn't as busy. The food was typical for an all inclusive. We weren't really impressed with the restaurants. We ordered Steak at the Steakhouse med/well & it was raw. Italian wasn't the best either. We had better food off the resort downtown, At least the Buffet had variety. The resort did have animals - even monkey's close by. The bad thing is getting here. We flew into Liberia & had the 3-4 hr drive, which driving in a strange country for that long right off wasn't a good idea. Road Signs are nonexistent in CR. Some people flew to this resort & I believe there were car rentals in town. Probably a good way to go . We did take an ATV excursion from the hotel. I can't recommend this enough. It was awesome & the owner did a GREAT job. We saw beaches, a waterfall & many monkeys in the jungle. So fun! Also, apparently there is no smoking on the balcony's at this resort. However our building did not have a sign & we saw many people smoking all over the resort but my husband was informed by security he couldn't. They need better signs or to be consistent on that rule. Would we come back? Probably not it was ok but there are many different places to see in Costa Rica next time. The problem with this area is you have to drive to see anything. However if you like to stay on resort & lounge at the pool, this place would work for you.…

Let me start by saying....for those who wrote bad reviews about this resort; I am thinking you wrote a review for the wrong place. This resort is fabulous! The layout, beach, views, were amazing! Food was good! Try the burgers on the grill at the snack bar! The carbonara linguini at the Italian (and the pizza)! The tour rep speaks well in English and is very helpful! For taxi, ask for Glenda! Speaks in English and is knowledgeable! I recommend Montezuma for the waterfall and a couple of hours hanging out at restaurant, bar, beach or boutique shops! If your luggage is lost (like us), the boutique in the resort has all you need! Beach always has available chairs and shade as you wish! Water is really warm to swim in and the little waves make it fun! You have the beach almost to yourself! Nice long walks for hours on both sides. Wifi works great! We flew from San Jose to Tambor with Sansa airlines. The highlight of our trip! Instead of a long drive, highly recommend the 30 minutes flight with amazing views! Few recommendations: bring a mug for drinks, bring face clothes if it is important to you, and please ignore the bad reviews!
