Our stay at Casa Chameleon was nothing short of spectacular!! I did intense research and had so many questions before booking. The concierge was incredible over email before we got to town and even better in person when we climbed the stairs to the lobby. Herlan, specifically, took the VERY best care of us!! He helped book all of our meal reservations (and change them often also-- sorry!) and made sure our entire stay was over the top. To squash any feedback, the construction did not interfere with our stay one bit. We were in Villa 14 and it was amazing. We did the Chef's table in the wine cellar and that was INCREDIBLE. I highly recommend this! Sentido Norte did not disappoint for breakfast or dinner and La Pampa was a true highlight. We ate all meals on property. We also took a day trip into Tamarindo to surf and have lunch. We added a beach massage and it is literally the best $30 i have ever spent. Surfing was a blast and the town was so cute! We also did off shore fishing with Dream On Fishing. While we only caught 1 sailfish, the experience was awesome-- especially because they picked us up directly on La Danta beach- no van transports necessary. Casa Chameleon provided chairs for us on our beach day and you can choose to walk or hitch a ride in the golf cart. Be sure to walk over to Dantita beach during low tide and hike back. The Brewery in Las Catalinas town has the very best cocktails! The staff at Casa Chameleon took such great care of us. Their service is top notch. We were on property for a 40th birthday party (5 couples). We loved everything about this trip and cannot wait to go back! There isnt a huge night life in Las Catalinas, but we really preferred that. We had great dinners and got in bed at a reasonable time to enjoy all the activities of the day. If you are considering going to Casa Chameleon-- book this trip now!!!!

Hotel's Favorite
We just got back from our stay at this amazing hotel and we're already thinking about when we can go back. Easily one of the best experiences at a hotel we've ever had. There's a lot to say about Casa Chameleon and what we experienced. TLDR: unreal, and can't recommend highly enough! But, if you've got a few minutes, here are some details (and some things to know before you go): SERVICE: I can't remember ever having better service at a hotel. Everyone (and I mean everyone, from the concierges, to the wait staff, to the cleaning staff) were incredibly friendly and charming. Most would call us by our names, and over the week we got to know many of theirs. Most went out of their way to help us with nearly everything--setting us excursions, service in our room, medical treatments (I got injured on the trip), etc. They even hooked us up with some of the local chili sauce that they serve in the restaurant that is crazy good. It's clear that the staff really care about the guests and the hotel's reputation. They even have A LOT of trainee staff (you can tell because it says "trainee" on their name tags) so they do take the service very seriously. Just want to give a shout out to the folks that I interacted with a lot who are awesome: Herlan, Christopher, Rose, Christian, Edgar, Diego, Jose. I'm sure I'm forgetting many people. LOCATION/BUILDINGS/ROOMS: It's also hard to overstate just how lovely the property is and how stunning the scenery is around it. Seriously, they picked the best spot for this hotel, on a hill overlooking a lovely set of beaches (both south and north), with a lovely cove to the north and small island directly west, with Las Catalinas island further west in the distance). It's picture perfect. What's really great is that the view to the west/north (which you get from the "Sunset" view rooms) has nothing else man-made in it--the cove and the mountains that surround it don't have anything else build on them. It's pristine. Now, there is Las Catalinas town next to the beach, but I don't believe it's really visible from any of the rooms. You can see it from the hotel lobby. We stayed in one of the Sunset villas (Prieta, #21) and spent easily more than half our time in it. The view was incredible, and made even better by the giant plunge pool we had. Now, I understand they are not all of uniform size, but ours was long and narrow. Easily 14 feet long. And right on the other side of its infinity edge were nice fig trees that obstructed some houses directly beneath us (we were at the bottom edge of the property), but perfectly framed the amazing view of the ocean/bay/islands. I'll include a picture here. The villa's bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was amazing. The shower has a glass wall so you get the fantastic view no matter what you're doing! FOOD: The restaurant at the hotel (Sentido Norte) is easily the best restaurant in the area. We did go to two of the "fancy" restaurants in Las Catalinas town (Ponciana and Pascual) and were underwhelmed by both of them--they're okay, but not as good as they should be for the prices. Sentido Norte stood above them all--figuratively and literally. The location is about the highest place you can go in the town, and the restaurant has no solid walls so the views are great from the main dining area and the bar next door. Breakfast and lunch are the stars, in our opinion. For breakfast, no matter what you order you get a nice fruit plate to start (and the fruit's fantastic). We really liked the local "Tico" breakfast, the breakfast burrito, chorizo and eggs, and the granola. But the standout was the "Knife and fork rancheros". Also, treat yourself to a "Morning Mary", which is their take on a bloody mary, but it's green. Very refreshing and different. Lunches are also very good. Don't miss the ceviche (either the fish or octopus), which were easily the best ceviches we had in Costa Rica. We also liked the Patacones, brisket burger, grilled fish sandwich, NOTE: do not leave this place without tying the "Calacas" chili sauce. It's a local sauce made from smoked chile de arbol. It comes with the breakfast burrito but you can get a side of it with almost anything. It's unreal--we bought two jars to bring home. Dinners are the weakest link in their meal offerings, but they are still very good. We loved the panko-cashew crusted tuna, fish of the day (mostly mahi mahi), and the steak frites. The calamari appetizer is different than any other fried calamari you've had, and was excellent. Oh yeah--this place SLAYS cocktails. Every single one we had--from their own creations, to standards, to ones we just had them create--were excellent. One last food thing: if you're there on a Friday, ABSOLUTELY make reservations to the "Grill". They cap reservations at 12 for this grilled feast. It was insane--several courses of grilled meats and sides that was easily the best meal we had the whole time we were there. The picanha was the best we'd ever had, and the beef short ribs and the pork were also unbelievable. Don't eat lunch that day because they will completely stuff you. Overall, as you can see we were in awe and will absolutely go back! THINGS TO KNOW/AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: So we do feel the need to include some caveats to fellow travellers and some recommendations to the team at the hotel. Again, we can't recommend the place highly enough. That said, there's always room for improvement. 1) Sunset Rooms: These rooms are on the west side of the property and get a full sunset view. It's amazing. But the sun is an absolute killer, so be prepared. And there is not outdoor sunscreen or shade to protect you from it--it's very had to enjoy the plunge pool in these rooms from about 3pm to sunset (6pm for us), unless you're slathered in sun screen. There is a blackout shade within the room, but there is nothing that partially filters out the sun. A slatted shade outside above the plunge pool would have helped. 2) Room furnishings: Apart from the bed in the room, there's really no place else to sit inside. This normally wasn't a problem as we were outside on the deck with the plunge pool, but in the afternoons with that sun, we couldn't be outside so had to just chill on the bed. 3) The hike. We had one of the lowest rooms on the property--the Prieta room (#21) on the sunset side. This was great for our view--we didn't have to see the roof of any other room on the property (as some of the higher rooms do). But it meant a lot of climbing--from our room there were about 80 steps to get up to the main pathway that links the lobby with the restaurant/pool. That's a lot in the steamy heat and if you have any mobility issues. This wasn't well communicated when we booked--we knew that they had golf carts on the property, but they don't really go to the rooms (just from the lobby to the restaurant, or from the lobby to the town down the hill). Again, not a big deal, but just be mindful if this might be an issue for you and plan accordingly.

My husband and I chose to celebrate a delayed honeymoon at Casa Chameleon in May 2023. Despite other reviews mentioning nearby construction - we thought “How bad could it be??” Pretty bad, as it turns out. Make no mistake - the construction at and directly below the property is VERY real, starting at 7-7:30 am until well after 5 pm EVERY DAY, even on Saturday AND Sunday. We booked a Sunset Villa and, while the sunset view does not disappoint, the construction noise on that side of the property is inescapable, especially the further down the property you go. We were initially assigned #22, which is down several flights of stairs and just above the lower construction; plus, part of its views are blocked by a giant house. When we requested to be moved, management did upgrade us to a Villa Suite (#17) for a few days, which has a lovely view + sunset and is higher up on the property, so the noise wasn’t as bad. But because #17 had been previously booked, we had to move mid-stay and were given Sunset Villa #6 (a handicap accessible room) that is higher up but right next to construction going on close to the lobby. In fact, as I write this at 9:30 am on Sunday, a construction worker is breaking up concrete/ground right outside our door at #6. Not ideal. All that said, the staff is very friendly, as you would expect from a high-end property and the included breakfast is delicious. The dinner service at the two property restaurants, Sentido Norte and Pampa Grill, is hit or miss, but the cocktails are excellent. [The food down the hill in Las Catalinas is no better.] This property likely will be lovely when the construction is done (provided no more mega mansions are built below), but until then, unless you’re going out on excursions every day, all day, you won’t get much much peace and quiet or romantic vibes.

The most exceptional service, food, and views! We travel frequently, and this is one of our top 3 resorts we’ve visited in the world. I recommend the sunset view room; nothing beats a dip in your private pool while overlooking the bay at Las Catalinas. We experienced multiple “above and beyond” moments that made this trip one of our most favorite ever! We will be back!

We went to Casa Chameleon with a group for a 40th birthday trip and had a great time. Great service with a smile from the entire staff. Herlan was friendly and accommodating, making sure our group was taken care of each and every day. We enjoyed a private dinner in the wine cellar and daily breakfast at Sentido Norte. Thanks to Diego and Brayan for excellent service as well!

Where to begin? It started with the ride to the resort with Rose Who provided refreshments and snacks and a wonderful scenic tour. Herlan and Daniela (Dany) welcomed us to the resort and got us checked in and squared away. After a couples massage, we got settled into our beautiful room with the help of Kevin! Views of the ocean and the personal infinity pool with waterfall were magnificent. They spared nothing-the room and accommodations were truly luxurious! The follow days of concierge services by Dany and Kevin left no request unmet. They provided 5 star service for even the smallest request. As for the restaurants Sentido Norte and La Pampa Grill, the seafood was the freshest in addition to the finest cuts of meat, and again 5 star service from the staff. Diego, Deiner and Gustavo and the rest of the staff were amazing and always called us by name! The entire experience was again 5 star and exceeded our expectations as seasoned travelers! We would highly recommend this phenomenal resort and we will be back! Pura Vida!

Made the long journey to this most spectacular location for our mothers birthday. I cannot praise this hotel enough, nothing has been too much trouble, the staff are outstanding. The restaurant is amazing with plentiful heathy food, the cocktails are delicious too. If you wants the beach versus the pool, it’s just down the hill, and they will gladly provide a ride and beach towels. I’d highly recommend this hotel.

We recently hosted a group event at Casa Chameleon and had the amazing opportunity to utilize the resort for a private buyout. From the beginning stages of planning, to the time our guests were on-site, everything was amazing. We cannot thank all of the staff enough for their assistance in making this event a success. If you are looking for a really unique, high-end experience, we highly recommend working with Casa Chameleon Hotel!

I'll preface this review with there was a little mix up with our reservation, but this place still gets five stars. Ariel the manager tended to our every need to get the mix up fixed, including moving our villa to make sure we had a great location and we came back from a tour to a special surprise. Ariel truly went above and beyond for us and we're so thankful to him for his effort to make our honeymoon amazing. We came to CC after spending time in the tropical rainforest part of Costa Rica. It is a whole other world -- a dry rainforest, beach access and very hot. The private plunge pool in our villa was definitely a welcome amenity and we spent plenty of time sunbathing on our porch and taking dips. It's a great location to the town they're building nearby and golf carts are always available to have you driven down and up since the walk can be a bit steep. The views of the ocean and nearby forests and the sunset were amazing. We loved going to the bar/restaurant for sunset and to watch them light the pool fires. I was even lucky enough to be able to ring the gong to mark sunset and have them light the fire. Luckily the hostess at Sentido Norte remembered I really wanted to and she came and got me from the bar to ring it. That thoughtfulness was present in every staff member and made our stay even better. The food at Sentido Norte and the new steakhouse was delicious and had great staff. We were stuffed and satisfied with every meal. The food was soooo good. We did one tour with Carlos Meneses who was so knowledgeable about the area and nature. We learned so much and are grateful he braved a little rain with us. He then took us to lunch and we got to spend more time with him. He was so pleasant and we are lucky we had him and are very grateful to the time and effort he gave to us during our tour. We were able to see a family of spider monkeys and he on the lookout for toucans knowing that I really wanted to see one. Along with Carlos, everyone at CC was ready to jump in and help us with anything, whether it was rearranging tours, making dinner reservations in the town or greeting us with cold towels whenever we returned to the hotel. Everyone was so friendly and we enjoyed meeting and talking to everyone we came across at CC. We're lucky to have experienced CC and are grateful to them and Ariel for making our honeymoon very special.

We went with friends and we were disappointed. First, we wanted to go to the bar to watch the sun set. We were told that the 1st and 2nd floor bars were full, which was not the case. There was plenty of room on the second floor. Watching the sun set was amazing. We finished our drinks and we were assigned a table. The service was so slow because of big groups. The bottles of wine were so expensive (some we pay $18 CND were over $100 US). Terrible! We waited for our meal quite a long time before our server offered us guacamole, salsa and chips. Then our plates came. The food was good and the plates were generous! The service was good. So happy we got to see the sun set.
