We stayed 2 nights at Hotel Covo dei Saraceni. We could not drive to the hotel to unload our luggage so it was a little bit of a chore to find parking and get there. We had a great room with a balcony overlooking the absolutely gorgeous sea!. Views couldn't be beat.
There are mixed reviews for this hotel and I think a lot of it depends on what room you get. We had room 301 which had a HUGE balcony with a big bed with a canopy for privacy and overlooked incredible scenery including the cliffs and the diving boards as well as the skyline at night. Really amazing!!! From this hotel one can easily walk to the beach or onto the bridge that leads to the old town. Great location for walking. The room is large and very pretty with cool lights and pergola in the ceiling. Here are the weird things about room 301: modern decor - which translates into a HUGE square sink in the bathroom with NO countertop. Completely dumb. Then there is a nice soaking tub with lights. BUT you have to climb INTO the tub to close the drain and then get out of the tub but way over to the faucet to turn on the water. It was total gymnastics to take a bath. Anyone with any mobility issues whatsoever would not be able to pull it off. Next, the faucet for the shower - totally impossible to turn it on without getting soaked. So there's no way to get the water running as you wait for it to get hot. Noise level wise, every time a door was closed out in the hallway, our door would rattle too. This was loud and bothersome. For some reason, they took the mattress away from the balcony bed on the second day. No explanation. Bottom line, if you can handle the nuttiness of the sink, shower and tub, this is a great room if you want a killer view. Also, Valerio, the driver, is a gem! He ferried us to and from our car because we had to park in a satellite lot.…
DO NOT STATY AT THIS HOTEL. It was no better than a motel on a highway. The gentlemen at the desk were beyond rude and did not care at all to help you or talk to you. You have to carry your own luggage as the bell man said " I am not obligated to carry any of your luggage". REALLY are you kidding me.Our room overlooked the crowded street, yes we could see the water but with the city so crowded you could not open your balcony window to see the water as the crowd of people were looking right at you. The bed felt like it was made of cardboard. It is out dated and old and tired. The maids outside our door had mop buckets with dirty water. We were there in the room for 1/2 of an hour we checked out and told the front desk to just keep our money as we were not going to stay in the hotel. I don't know what other people say but maybe my standards are higher this is a lousy hotel, and someone should talk to the front desk as they are the first impression you get when you walk in besides the old and tired look of the hotel. Do not eat at the restaurant next to the hotel as they could care less if you are there or not, also rude.…
WE HAD THE BEST TIME! Thank you to Gabriella and Paulo for making our stay so memorable. We LOVED our room and the ICONIC views of the dramatic beach and coastline. Postcard moments! We wanted to have a base for our road trip in Puglia as we were nervous about staying in different places during Covid times. Covo dei Saraceni met all of our expectations. It was the perfect base, and everyone at the Hotel made us feel very safe. I thank you all. Would most definitely recommend staying here.
A good hotel should make you feel welcome, looked after and appreciated. This hotel does none of that. From check in, to service at breakfast and dinner to the penny inching final bill at checkout this hotel failed us on all counts and we will never return. We just returned from 7 days in a suite at this place that I have to say is located marvellously atop the cliffs of the bay overlooking the wonderful bay and turquoise sea. Our room had one of the biggest terrace I have ever seen and captured the sun at all time of the day. The buildings common areas are beautiful and the restaurant overlooks the scenery with may tables having open air views, Our room had been decorated in the modern style, far too contemporary for us and well out of keeping with the elegant style of the old building. The flooring moved from elegant tile to swathes of pebbles that for people who tend to move around barefoot indoors is uncomfortable. Many of the staff cannot speak good English and trying to order breakfast from behind a mask was impossible - you had to resort to hand gestures, now my Italian could be better I know, but I am paying to stay there and they are getting paid to serve me - right?! This hotel has it all going for it in terms of location and the old building is great - it should be a wonderful place to stay but it is spoilt by its managements lack of attention to detail and the poor attention of some staff. …
