I would advise against booking here. My husband and I were scheduled to arrive March 4th. Due to severe weather, our flights were cancelled 2 hours before we were supposed to leave. We notified the hotel immediately. We tried to book alternate flights but nothing was available due to the snowstorm. When we asked if we could be refunded (due to the cancellation being out of our control), they said no. I have stayed at numerous Barcelo Group hotels over the past 20 years. Due to this experience, I will never book with them again. I have never been so disappointed in the lack of customer service or decency. They basically stole our money. I would have been happy with a hotel credit, as I would have happily booked flights at a later date. Shame on this hotel. I truly advise against staying here. I would have given no stars if it was an option. …
Small resort located about 20 minutes from the Liberia airport. The resort is built on a hill so be ready to walk up and down stairs or on inclines, but shuttles are available often. Check-in for us was a breeze and we asked to upgrade to premium when we arrived. Getting premium allowed us to use the premium lounge and book ala cart meals early. Had a bay view room which was great. Bed was comfortable and pillows were fine. Slept very well while we were there. Only think is that the floor was not cleaned as well as I would have liked, but everything else was excellent. There are two pools. The main pool is nice, but has very limited shade during the heat of the day. The lower pool had a pool bar and was definitely the most popular. Never had a problem getting chairs at any pool, so no need to get up early to save a chair. The resort is small so the buffet is also small and thus a limited choice in food. They do have a omelet station for breakfast and the pineapple and watermelon is the best. Lunch is available at the snack bar down by the main pool or up the stairs at the main buffet. Again very limited, but I never went hungry. You can only go to an ala cart for every 3 days that you are there. We were there 13 nights so went to the ala carts 4 times. Ala Cart choices are Italian, Oriental or The Grill. We did Italian and oriental once and the grill twice. You can talk to 10 people there and they all had their favorites so I really won't rate these except for the grill as we did that twice. Had a steak the first time and to my surprise, not over cooked and tend. Had the ahi tuna the second time and would eat both of these items again as they were both excellent. As we upgraded to premium, we spent a large part of our time in the premium lounge were we could get much better liquor than in the lobby bar or pool bar. Both Caesar and Karla were great. We made a great connection with Karla she was supper friendly and we became great friend. If you like margaritas, make sure you get Karla's, but Caesar make a great bloody Mary. If you want to leave the resort and go to Playas del Coco for a day that do have a shuttle, but it stops running at 1:45 in the afternoon. We took a cab that was $30 per person each way. The cab driver was excellent and we went to Coco twice. Definity would go back.…
Employees are friendly. Shuttle service was very nice and responds quickly. The bar service is great as well. Food at The Grill, and The Italian (only 2 restaurants we ate at), was not good. Both times, food seemed to be undercooked and sketchy. Ended up eating the full meal at the grill and got food poisoning the next morning that took kept me in the room for the next 2 days. After the food poisoning subsided we tried The Italian and I only took one bite of the food and couldn't take another. Food was visibly undercooked. On the other hand, the food from The Buffet was above average each time we went in, having a lot of options and at least seeming very fresh. Breakfast was great all week in the Buffet.
This property does not keep up on their maintenance or upkeep. We had many problems with our room, broken toilet that did not get fixed, they moved us instead. 2nd room air conditioner was so old it leaked all over the floor. We were to have our refrigerator restocked daily out of a 8 day stay they brought us 3 days of replacement
Had a relaxing time at this resort. Well maintained and clean. The pools are very nice and the staff is generally kind and helpful. The resort is large and it was great to have the shuttle to get around during the day. The hotel seems to attract an older, mature crowd which was great because there were no rowdy partygoers. The only small hiccup was the inconsistencies in the store hours. Not very convenient but not a big deal in an otherwise pleasant experience.
My wife and I wanted a base camp to be able to visit a couple of National Parks while we were in Costa Rica, and this hotel worked out well for us. We enjoyed the hotel grounds and the beach for our early morning exercise walks, and then the great buffet breakfast before leaving on our adventures. We enjoyed the Lobby Bar, where we found a tasteful decor and great drinks. I recommend that if you want a Pina Colada with a little more bite, ask for it "Tico Style" Pura Vida!!
Excellent resort for, nature , quietness, wildlife, friendliness of the staff, beach and restaurants. Would recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax in a peacefull environment We really loved our trip
I loved Hotel Papagayo very peaceful and service. I enjoyed the peace and quiet and the great food, I really recommend it for those who want to relax enjoy nature and do some local tours like fishing.
See completed review. Location good. Hotel could use upgrading. Overall meals good and customer service good. Grounds away from main building in poor condition however it is the dry season. Pool clean - bar service good.
Just returned from Costa Rica. The resort is very clean and well-maintained. Staff were pleasant and the food was good considering this is an all-inclusive. The crowd is an older clientele which was very relaxing as you won't find loud partygoers everywhere. The only small areaa for improvement would be for the hours of the onsite store. There were times when it was not open during the business hours displayed. Again, very small in the grand scheme of a very nice experience.
