We called Rothbury Escape to book a room for 3 nights with our dog and cat, we spoke to Christine and told her that we might be arriving late due to driving from Melbourne, Victoria. The cost for 3 nights due to it being public holidays came to $795. We finally arrived after driving over 12hours at 10pm at te Rothbury Escape, where I found we weren’t greeted in the nicest way, but as tired as we were, all we wanted was to go to the room and go to sleep. After going through all these forms (covid) etc we drive up to the room Christine gave us. To walk into a stench that smelt like water damage/mould. You weren’t able to stay in the room as the smell was seriously bad. So we walk out and try to call Christine. (This was 2minutes after we said goodbye to her) but after multiple calls, no answer. So we drive back to the reception in where Christine walks out, after we mention the smell to her, her first response was “I don’t have any other rooms” and maybe just run the water.. Not a normal response like oh, let me check or let me see what else I can do as this is unacceptable. Basically, we should just accept that room as there’s no other available for $795 + it was 10pm at night and obviously finding other accommodation would’ve been impossible. Anyway, we requested a refund and one of the last things Christine said was, where are you guys going to go this late? Christine called us back the next morning at 10am to apologise and to let us know that it wasn’t “mould” that we could smell but water stuck in the drains. She had organised a plumber. Initially I wasn’t planning to write a review but really I found this appalling. She had 4 other rooms available, but not for pets. So after inconveniencing customers who she knew were driving 12+ hours and letting them pay $795 for a room that really looked like a No star motel, plus I am almost certain that she knew that the room stank, thinking to herself after them driving 12+hours and it being late without other options, they’ll just take it. Calling the next morning at 10am “sounding” concerned and apologising was nothing more than wanting to prevent a review. There was no concern at 10pm the night before. Rude and a rip off. Don’t waste your money to this business!…
My mum and I had a lovely weekend at Rothbury Escape. The room was a good size, very clean and fresh, lovely view, nice patio and quiet. The beds were very comfortable and it had everything we needed. There was a nice bottle of wine and cheese and biscuits along with a light breakfast. The common area was very good with a well stocked kitchen, long table inside, comfortable lounge and fireplace. Outside were more tables, and BBQ. A great place and a fabulous weekend away.
Booked here based on reviews but didn't realise it would be more Motel type accommodation. We were looking forward to a nice continental breakfast but told there was "fruit" and "cereals" ready in the room for the next morning. We found some weetbix and SPC fruit boxes! Cheese platter consisted of bega cheese and ritz crackers. Not terrible for the price and has beautiful views but didn't meet expectations.
Comfortable room with serene outlookover dam. Hunter valley looking lush and green after recent rain. Gail looked after us. Convenient for our Day on the Green location at Bimbagen 15min drive. Breakfast was basic but suited us.
We loved our stay at Rothbury Escape, a small, quiet place where you can relax and unwind - close enough to all that the Hunter offers (vineyards, restaurants, Hunter Valley Gardens) but away from the busy-ness of Pokolbin. Rooms are airy and clean, super comfortable beds and with amenities provided e.g. toiletries and tea/coffee. Also provided is provisions for a light breakfast (toast, butter, spreads, cheese, juice, cereal). A bottle of wine was also provided! There is a lovely common area with a full kitchen if you want to cook your own food, a barbecue and lounge area. We didn't use this but would be great if you were staying here as a family or group of friends. Outside of the rooms is a small private patio that looks out onto the property, you can see horses and wild kangaroos and it was so peaceful to sit out here with a glass of wine and a book. Just perfect! Christine was super helpful and accommodating! And it was so nice to stay on a property with animals - two goats, pigs, horses, chickens and dogs! Perfect Hunter Valley stay 😊…
We book 1 night at the escape for ourselves and another couple. Our host John was so helpful and friendly. The rooms were well equipped and each go a free bottle of wine. The fridge was well stocked as well.
Rothbury Escape has 8 large double rooms, 4 either side of a spacious and very well equipped lounge or 'common room'. Perfect for a group of friends. views to the West, great sunsets, continental breakfasts, self catering is an option. We used the BBQ facilities one evening.
This place was a great and relaxing. Enjoyed being there with my dogs as it was pet friendly! The common area, with a full kitchen and fire place was great as we travelled as a group. It is a great spot if you are travelling with pets.
Our hosts, Christine and John, were incredibly helpful and welcoming - nothing was a problem for them. We were up the Hunter to do Pooch Picnic with a group of 11 and their communal kitchen/lounge/dining area was fantastic - everything you could want was there as we cooked for ourselves. It was better than staying in a house as we all had our own bedroom and bathroom and joined up as a group in the lounge/kitchen area which has a wood burning fire, large table and comfy sofas with magic views over the paddocks. Rooms very clean and comfortable - beds super comfy. We will definitely stay again.
Firstly, this is not for place for weekend ‘woo hoos’. Best you go and stay in a noisy pub closer to the action. Secondly though, if you want a quiet time in a beautifully peaceful location then this is the place for you. Mine hosts Christine and John will accommodate your every need. It has eight units each beautifully presented. A/C, electric blankets and comfortable beds. A large communal area with fully self contained kitchen, A/C, lounges and a wonderful fire place. You’ll be welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine with cheese and crackers on arrival and it’s only a short drive to any number of cellar doors. C’mon, what more could you possibly need. We can’t wait to return.
