Such a bad experience here which could have been a really fun time. Lenny was fantastic trying to help my daughter who was very nervous about riding a horse for the first time. We paid in advance nearly $600 for 6 people to try horseriding and when my 12 year old decided she was too nervous to actually do it I was told by a very rude Margaret that she would not provide a refund and it was too bad. She acted like my daughter had taken a spot of someone else that could have ridden but there was no one else waiting to ride at all. Such bad customer service and a very rude lady left that left us with a bad taste in our mouths. All the other staff were very nice.
We rang, spoke to Margret (Owner of Hill Top Country Guest House & Horse Riding) Explained we were looking to purchase x2 half hr G.V for our daughter to share with her sister - Before purchase, we explained our daughter was super excited, she does live with Down syndrome as apart of who she is, so core stability wasn’t great & she would need support... Margret said this wasn’t an issue, she quote $80 total, CHARGED OUR C.C $90. We’ve tried many times over this yr to book in, Margret avoids returning our call, if we manage to get her on phone that is.- NO BOOKING, NO RETURNED CALLS - OVER CHARGED C.C - NO REFUND & Margret is a VERY RUDE, NASTY OLD LADY 🤔 SMALL CLAIMS COURT IS OUR NEXT STEP
I booked this room more than a year out and had to cancel within a day of booking but Margaret would not budge on the $50 cancellation fee. I spoke to her on the phone to explain my situation but she only cared about her $50. Will never book here again!!!
We booked in a hurry and the settled for the awesome setting, which is true. The property is massive with 45 horses, cattle and other farm animals and birds. However for $170/night we assumed we will not have to share bathrooms, which was not the case. If it is a standard room, 2 bathrooms for 3 rooms is how the arrangement is. We didn't have much issues as we were the only guest first night. Margaret is such a lovely host and the guest house offers that old house charm, however there are couple of things which I am sure many guest will benefit from 1. More options for cooking in the sitting area, if not an access to the kitchen. A microwave and a toaster/sandwich press is a good addition. She kindly allowed us to use the microwave in her kitchen to heat up milk for coffee. 2.Water in one of the bathrooms we used, was binary i.e. either hot or cold, could not bring it to right temperature which makes showering a bit difficult. This needs to be fixed. Adding a hair dryer in the bathroom is an easy improvement. 3. Veranda like the bathrooms is also to be shared between 3 rooms. Veranda furniture can do a little bit more tidying up. 4. Cleaner beds and sheets will make the stay warm and nicer. Overall paying the price that you did makes you feel left wanting better.…
After reading reviews we were concerned however we had a great farm stay with our family and friends. 6 & 9 year olds lived the stay. Here are our tips to ensuring you have a great stay. -book a villa not a guesthouse. Villas are spacious , opposite the animals and offer private facilities including small kitchenette. -ask for villa 1 , large balcony which offers great views of the farm -book horse riding, highlight of the trip. -book a tractor ride so you can feed the animals. Cameron who operates this is very knowledgeable and you get to experience the farm! -don't stay here if your not looking for a farm experience Highly recommend! We loved every minute of our stay. The villas are spacious and offer all the basic requirements for a comfy stay . It's not luxurious but if that's what your looking for you shouldn't stay here. …
We stayed here very last minute. Got the info off a Hunter Valley accom website. They should remove it straight away. It was so bad i thought we were on candid camera. Where to start.. The carpet is very old and seems never dry cleaned. The bed was like an antique. Old wood frame with scratches all over. The mattress was so rolled on edges, you kept bumping your knees on side of bed during sleep. The bed sheets were not fitted. Old flannelette & barely could tuck in. The doona could of been my grandparents from 30yrs ago. The furniture is from 2nd hand shops. Old old old. The sitting chair blocks your access into the small hall into your room. The TV was extremely small (no remote). The heater for room is an old platic pull cord heater from the 70's hanging on wall. The cupboard is tacky.. Full glass mirror with chipboard laminex veneer. The bathroom had mold on tiles & someone's hair in shower waste. Dust everywhere. I lifted the corner of mattress & truely hadnt been cleaned there ever. An old comb, dust and coins. The host was a tad stand offish. I got the impression she ran the place without any help & it was too big a task for her age. Kitchen facilities were at end of house. (I say house, caus thats what it is. A big house) we made a cup of tea when we arrived. The tea bags were still on a saucer 3 days later (no bin). No milk, so bought a litre bottle next day. Placed it in fridge. That evening it had disappeared & a small 100ml carton was placed in fridge. (We gathered the host assumed we took the bottle of milk we bought from her fridge at other end of house. An area we were told strictly not to go near). Honestly very glad to depart. Was the only downer on our trip to Hunter. I would understand if we paid minimal price. But that wasn't the case either. …
Unclean. Outdated. Smelly rooms, stained floors. Hair in thr sink. To begin the manager is obnoxious and refuses to admit faults. This hotel is very dated and horribly furnished. Very uncomfortable beds. Extremely unclean throughout. We were missold on the website and this place is run more like a hostel than a hotel. Shared bathrooms are not ideal for anyone. Manager is very unfriendly to children. My advice... book elsewhere and enjoy your trip.
We stayed in one of the Villa's, which included a King sized bed, spa bath and kitchenette. The kitchenette was basic; with toaster, kettle, microwave and bar fridge but suitable for what we needed. The spa bath has a shower over it but no screen so there was a bit of splash. We had a couple of concerns with what we thought was a faulty TV and light and Margaret came down and checked these out. Turns out there was a problem with the light which she arranged to be fixed and the TV was working, we had just not found the power switch. We found Margaret very helpful with arranging horseriding on the premises and assisting with finding restaurants and attractions in the area.
A lovely rustic feel, off the beaten track but totally worth it for the country experience. Kangaroos hopping around on site. Place could do with a bit of an update but perfectly good condition and facilities. Friendly hostess. There were lots of activities although we didn't use these cos of other arrangements. Great for the peace and quiet!
First we made booking only for one night but place was so nice that we desided to stay other night. Hotel is perfect if you love horses and horseback riding. Our room was big and clean and we had nice big teras where we ate breakfast with birds and kangaroos.
