So with an impending typhoon, cancelled ferry we have to find accommodation quickly. This place pops up whilst we are sitting in 'awesome deserts' , (really good little place for a drink, food btw and free wifi) we take a quick walk round and the look at the room. The pictures here are representative of what it is actually like. The rooms are better than the Nicanor, which I have also reviewed. Staff are brilliant also, trying to help us find a flight off the island, and really do go the extra mile for us.

There was free water in the room, swans made out of towels, they put the air con on for us before we went to our rooms and the room had a flat screen TV.

So, apparently "pension" stands for cheap accommodation in the Philippines, but this place is very very good for the 19 pesos we are charged. Highly recommended.

A fairly new place in Dumaguete City.

Best location.
- Near Rizal Boulevard. 2 minutes walk.
- just beside Silliman University
- near the heart of the old town

Gentle people. Good accommodation.
- good customer service
- hospitable staff

The rooms are decent sizes. When in Dumaguete the goal is to spend more time outdoor. Coming home at U Pension makes it more comfortable.

I recommend this place because off the location and comfortable rooms.

I stayed in this hotel for seven (7) days.
Good points:
- not that expensive (budget-friendly)
- you wouldn't hear noise from the outside
- friendly and accommodating staff
- comfortable (space is just enough for me; HVAC working properly)
- accessible from other landmarks
- safe (but I think most of the places in Dumaguete is safe) :-)
- known to locals
- well maintained room
- fast Wi-Fi

Needs improvement:
- Dim lights (especially at my bathroom). At times, I need bright lights
- complimentary toiletries (soap and shampoo only)
- they have complimentary drinks (but not served daily)
- hot shower is not hot at all (I think my pee is even hotter, sorry to those who are eating)
- remote of my air-con is not working (maybe an isolated case only)

Booked this hotel when our flight sched was changed, and there's no way that we can get to a ferry to Siquijor at night. So we needed a place nearest the port and this is the cheapest we could find for a few hours stay. Just wanted to get a good sleep and then travel to Siquijor in the morning... but that did not happen... i mean, the good sleep.

We were given room 206 (avoid at all cost!), every single sound from the outside is amplified in the room.. We thought at first that it was because the windows were left open, but nope. Even the steps of people passing by, we can hear..
We actually told the recep the 'moment we arrived' that we wanted to be transferred bcoz of the noise from vehicles and people, but she said there are no available rooms left, even when I don't see anyone else in the building.

As I write this, i am still awake at 3 am (with a headache bcoz of not being able to sleep) bcoz there are a bunch of men talking and laughing aloud in front of the building, and the guard doesn't even stop them.

For the other small things that we are not too bothered are; the lack of cups for hot water (we had to buy from 711 for my medicinal tea), no bidet and a non working wifi.

The good things are; it's near the port and boulevard, just beside Jo's Inato (which we love), big room and T&B, clean sheets, good AC and an elevator

If you need to get some rest, stay somewhere else. I don't know why they even rent out room 206 when they know how noisy it can get there. But if you are after the cheap price and at the center of all the action, then just, i will say again, AVOID ROOM 206 (and the room adjacent to it) AT ALL COST!

This could have been a good stay, if not for this supppeerrr inconvenience. They could have been more flexible with changing rooms, esp that they're not even fully booked. We plan to leave really early so we can just sleep in Siquijor.

I usually make a vlog/reel of all the accommodations we have been to (with drone footage, too), but this one is a pass. I can not get myself to recommend.. Well, let's see if I can sleep a wink, then I might just change my mind then.. 😛

Hotel is okay nothing spectacular. When i checked in the aircon filter is filty and asked the staff to clean it. Room floor is sticky. Towels are dirty you can still see the stains. Aircon control doesnt work but it's fine the thermostat is at 16C. Guard is busy with his cellphone.

I was expecting a budget hotel, but this room looked like a penitentiary. Which is fine if everything had been clean. But the shower was riddled with mold and the fixtures totally rusting and gross to touch. Apparently I had to run the water for 15 min if I wanted anything hotter than room temp water, but I just sucked it up and took a cool shower instead of wasting time and water. Moreover, while the price was low (~$25/night usd), it wasn't suspiciously low or hostel rates for Southeast Asia. The only good thing about this place was its location.

Other notes:
-flying cockroach
-karaoke joint downstairs can be loud, but didn't bother me
-the hotel doesn't help book tours, which is why I got a hotel to begin w... might as well try Airbnb instead
-probably the grossest hotel room I've ever encountered in my many years of travel
-Maybe I just got unlucky w my room (201 I think?). But they were 100% booked and couldn't move me of course. Can't think of how else they'd have so many rave reviews...

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Our group went to Silliman for an academic conference and decided to stay for a week at this place because it was so near to the university. We were very happy with the service: our rooms were cleaned every day, the internet wifi was fast, and the staff were helpful and available even very late at night or very early in the morning. We were out all day at the conference and it was wonderful to arrive at our room with our beds fresh, the toilet clean, and towels replaced. Will come back to stay if in Dumaguete.

The ladies at the front desk are the best ever, delightful to look at and very helpful all the time. I would stay there again, close to Rizal Ave, I enjoyed it. Cocos Amigos is close, Bella Pizza s close and Jo's is excellent.

Stayed here for five nights. Great location close to Robinsons, restaurants, Silliman University and Rizal Street which has many choices for dinner, drinks and dessert.

Nice, clean and modern hotel.

The room had great air conditioning, bad wifi connection, clean rooms, good choice of channels if you decide to watch the tube.

Try to stay at the back of the hotel as the main road in front is quite noisy all day and night. But if you have ear plugs you might be fine.

The front desk girls were always pleasant and polite.

I highly recommend U Pension!
