Hotel Essencia 3.7.24 **CHECK IN a) NO RECORD OF BOOKING.COM RESERVATION b) MADE RESERVATION WITH BOOKING.COM, WE ASKED FOR NON-SMOKING AND 11:00AM CHECK-IN ~ WE WERE THERE AT 11:00AM BUT WERE TOLD WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2:00 TO CHECK IN, IN THE SAME BREATH WERE TOLD THERE WAS AN “EXPRESS CHECK IN FOR P350.” THERE WAS APPROX 50 PEOPLE IN LOBBY AND NOT ONE VACANT CHAIR SO THEY GOT US FOR THE P350! CAN YOU SAY ‘GREEDY?’ c) 2 ELEVATORS BUT LIKE 6 MONTHS AG0, ONLY 1 WORKING.. d) PAID CASH AND THERE WAS P800 CHANGE OWED ME.. HOTEL HAD “NO CHANGE SO I WOULD HAVE TO COME BACK LATER IN THE DAY FOR MY CHANGE??” e) OUR ROOM KEY WAS 4 DIGITS ~ 8719 SO WOULDN’T ONE THINK THE ROOM WAS ON THE 8TH FLOOR? HOW DUMB OF ME, THE ROOM WAS ON THE 7TH FLOOR.. THE ROOM a) NO HAND TOWELS b) NO HOT WATER c) UNCOMFORTABLE DESK STOOL, NO CHAIR d) DOOR HARD TO OPEN AND CLOSE e) BED HAD GROOVES WHERE PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS HAD SLEPT ~ NOT COMFORTABLEF AT ALL FREE BREAKFAST a) ‘VERY’ BASIC CHOICES, FRUIT WAS OLD AND TASTED OFF. b) YOU WANT COFFEE TO START, GET IT YOURSELF! BEING A SENIOR, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE COFFEE SERVED.. ATTITUDE OF SERVERS WAS, BEING GENEROUS, 4… THERE WERE 2 THAT SAID “GOOD MORNING” AND SMILED.. HOW REFRESHING… I LEFT A TIP ANYWAY. PARKING a) ALL FRONT PARKING SLOTS WERE FULL AND VANS WERE PARKED ON THE STREET BEHIND THEM. TO GET OUT TOOK AN ACT OF CONGRESS. WE GOT “THE LAST SPOT” IN THE UNDERGROUND PARKING. AS A SENIOR THERE WERE TWO CHOICES FOR THE LOBBY ~ A STEEP RAMP WITH NO RAILS OR A FLIGHT OF STAIRS TO THE LOBBY. FOR ME, THIS HOTEL SHOWS POOR MANAGEMENT IN SERVICE, QUALITY AND COMFORT ~ WILL WE RETURN = NO!

I stayed here for 1 night just because my flight was on morning and the distance from hotel to airport is not so far. I booked a family room , to be fair it do have a separate room for 2 adults and 1 kid. but the room was small and the smell in room was very strange. The air was not fresh even when I open the window, and the noise was unbearable outside. The shower water was very small and no bath gel in room. The worst is air conditioner whose temperature can not be controlled so the room is very cold. The staff in front desk was nice but those in the restaurant was cold. Considering there are so many hotels in Dumaguete, I don't recommend the hotel.

As always, a great stay at this hotel, been staying here for about Ten years now! Rooms very clean and are serviced daily, i did find the Free Breakfast run out of food on the buffet trays on more than one occasion which is not great, i feel the restaurant staff could of been a little bit more attentive to the food levels, and the shower/CR room have started to look a little old now and could do with some refurbishment, but are clean and functional however. Staff are ALWAYS pleasant polite and greet you with a smile and happy to help. Great Hotel, Great Location and always my first choice when in Dumaguete. I would like to say a thank you to all the staff at the hotel for a pleasant stay.

A loud band plays somewhere in this hotel and it vibrates my room. It’s impossible to sleep. I wouldn’t stay at his hotel again nor would I recommend it to anyone. This loud band plays every night.

Been staying in this hotel for the past two years whenever I am in Dumaguete. Rooms are fairly large as well as the bathroom which is even equipped with hair dryer. Hotel and restaurant staffs are friendly and provides good services. You get your value for your money as they say. It is also a popular venue for birthday celebration as well as events such as seminars. Food is reasonably price and good quality. There is even a parking space for travelers with vehicles. The place is a bit old compared to other hotels that had sprouted in Dumaguete. Still a good place to stay which is near to all places to go in Dumaguete City.

The place is tidy and bathroom is huge with necessities available. The hotel is only few steps from the public market. It is also convenient as a number of ATMs are nearby. They serve breakfast and the cafe is huge. The lobby or the waiting area is also great! Staffs are attentive.

I was a regular guest here before whenever I was on Official Business trip. However, things changes quickly with my family for a vacation....Stained bathroom, fridge not working, poor housekeeping and front office service. You need to improve your bfast menu. When I demanded for my official receipt, as proof of payment and waited in the lobby for an hour to get my official receipt, proved in vain. I asked the front office personnel to issue an official receipt. Instead, she gave me an Statement of Account...failure to issue an Official Receipt is in violation of the Bureau of Internal Revenue Code. I suggest you re-trained your staff in dealing with your guest.

Two really good points: first the room. What you'd expect to find in a good hotel. Bed was very comfortable. Second: the location. Pretty much in the heart of the city and within walking distance of everything (except Hayahay) Things that weren't spectacular: 1. The facade. Doesn't look like a hotel. But I don't think that can be helped much. 2. The restaurant. Not much effort to bring it up to tourist feels. It's a downtown restaurant. The breakfast buffet was just okay. Plain rice/garlic rice/bread, scrambled egg, one processed meat, and one other viand. 3. Room service. Servings are large for the price point. Good for 2-3. Just had a strange experience where they said we had to wait til 7 for dinner to be brought up because they had a function. 4. This is a comment not just for Essencia but for other hotels: I hate it that they're fond of those translucent wall for comfort rooms and showers! And to think we asked for a family room. You could see the contours of the person taking a shower. In another hotel with the same kind of wall, at least they put a curtain on the bedroom side. I mean there should at least be one in a family room. I'd consider staying here again. Stayed at Bethel before but this was better.

Another amazing stay at this great hotel. Always stay here when in Dumaguete, friendly staff, helpful always polite, and happy to help. Hotel is in a great location in Dumaguete, everything is within walking distance of this hotel, if you do need transport, The hotel staff will arrange this for you. The Travel agency within the Hotel arranged an Amazing Trip to Bohol for us, she arranged EVERYTHING, made our trip extremely enjoyable as an addition to our stay in the hotel, Free Breakfasts are always a good way to start the day, restaurant is clean and food is good I have stayed in many of the rooms here now, and are ALWAYS fresh and clean and serviced daily, however my only gripe about this hotel is, as i have been staying here for many many years, i have found now that the bathrooms in all rooms are looking a bit tatty and could do with an over hall, as the chrome is looking very old and pitted, the glass is clouded, the tiles old and dated, and often the rickety shower head often allows only a trickle of water. the jacuzzi in teh suites take about 1 hour to fill as the water comes out the faucet very slowly due to them being clogged and very old tatty. Over all i love this Hotel and is always my first choice when im here in Dumaguete.

I stayed here a few nights and it was a pleasant stay. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The location is quite good in Dumaguette city centre. Can walk everywhere. The wifi was good. The buffet breakfast is pretty decent too with a few choices. I would recommend it here.
