this is a real eye opener the Ark is quite high up that is was a bit chilly the staff where very nice and helpful the food was first class and lots to chose from. there is viewing areas to view wildlife at the waterhole and salt lick that attracts all the animals. rooms are nice and they even put hot water bottles in the beds. after 5 they light the big fire in the lounge that fills the room with heat

This mostly wooden structure was built in the 1970's and doesn't appear to have been upgraded since. The only reason to go here, from my perspective, is to view wildlife at the waterhole. Most of that activity occurs during the night. We were told that we would be alerted throughout the night via a bell system when there was activity at the waterhole, but that didn't happen and we were disappointed. We apparently missed some good activity. The food was buffet style, good and there was a lot of variety. Though we reserved a room with a double or larger bed, months in advance, we were placed in a very smelly room with 2 smaller than twin beds. There is no heat in the rooms and we were cold. Some black liquid leaked from the floor above onto our luggage rack area, wall and floor. The response to our reporting of this was underwhelming. When our travel agent contacted them about this, Ark staff casually told her that the black fluid was wildlife excrement and offered only a weak apology. In hindsight, we believe they knew this before our stay - because of the dark stains on the floor. Also, there was a huge mark up in the gift shop. At least on books. The whole experience was pretty bad.

We were on a small group tour and stayed one night. Remember that this is an experience not a regular hotel stay. The room would put a monk to shame, but was clean and comfortable. The food was very good. Now the reason you stay here is the animals. You have a box. Seat at a watering hole and salt lick that attracts (while we were there) Cape buffalo, elephants, warthogs, hyenas and various other small game. Four levels to view from including an eye level one. At night if you choose, they sound a room buzzer to let you know if large animals are there. The night we were there, we had front row seats watching 2 dozen hyenas try to kill a baby buffalo while momma and a lone elephant defended. By morning momma was joined by papa, the elephant had left, and most of the predators had left. Mark one up for the buffalo. Great introduction to Kenyan safari.

My husband and I spent the night here for a Valentines getaway. Very nice lodge in the heart of Abedares National Park. They offer 4 decks that over look a water hole where the animals come to drink. There is a nice bar to lounge at and a lqrge fire plqce to gather around. Abedares is one of the highest peaks so the tempatures are a bit cooler, so bring a jacket as the night time is cold. At night you have this very hot bottle in your bed and its the best little suprise to warm you up. The entrie staff was friendly and welcoming. There are no TV's in the rooms or WiFi, so come to getaway from the hustle and bussel of life and unplug and enjoy nature. I would recommend for a weekend getaway...

I went on a Kenya and Tanzania safari from 9 to 20 September 2020, I stayed at Ark Lodge on the 10th, it is a superb hotel with a view of the animals found in Aberdare National Park, very attentive staff, it is worth going even in these pandemic times, very safe. We travel from Portugal.

Stayed for one night night at the magnificent property in the jungle of Kenya. The porprty is built in front of a water hole used by animals of the jungle. The big balcony at the level of the property gives a nice view of the jungle and the water hole. Rooms are small, but rooms are not important in this property but views. food quality was good with good range for the visitors. Service levels by the staff was great. great value for your money .

Well, the hotel itself is rather tired and the rooms were pretty small. It isn’t high-end! Food was ok. Pretty much the only reason to go really is to see the animals at the water hole and the ‘salt lick’ surrounding the water. It was pretty interesting seeing the animals interact. We saw water buffalo (lots), elephant, hyenas. No real action but al least that meant we had an uninterrupted night! On the odd occasion, we understand that there is exciting action which is floodlight, apparently not to the distraction of the animals. I think that one night is enough........

Even before we arrived at The Ark Lodge September of 2019, we caught a glimpse of a large number of elephants omg all sizes at rear (or is it the front?) of the lodge. We were so excited when we arrived that we went straight to the deck to witness not only the large group of elephants but Cape buffalo, warthogs, water bucks, and a Thompson Gazelle or two also. Our over night stay at The Ark was a perfect beginning of a two week safari to Kenya and Tanzania. The personnel couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating in every way. The animals kept us entertained all afternoon and into the night. We were awakened in the middle of the night by a trumpeting elephant under our window seemingly giving us an official welcome!
