Enjoyed my stay at Intercontinental Alpensia hotel. Was pleasantly surprised when the room got upgraded to an executive suite - large one bedroom villa with living area and spacious bathroom. Very comfortable king size bed with soft linen and pillows. Great beautiful scenery to enjoy from the balconies and while walking around the lake all throughout the day. The Alpensia Town resort is very well kept which also includes Holiday Inn Suites. The staff were all friendly and always greeted me. Each night was nice and quiet - didn’t hear anyone else. Housekeeping provides four bottles of water each time. My stay included free breakfast buffet and I enjoyed the breakfast each morning at Flavours. Plenty of options from traditional Korean food, fresh pastries, fresh fruit & veggies, made to order omelette… and more. The fitness center had the basics - four treadmills, dumbbells, shoulder machine, chest machine, and back machine. FYI - need to see the concierge if you want to use the fitness center and its operating hours are from 8 am - 11 pm, but they will let you in earlier. Tasty pastries and sweets at OXY Lounge and a bowl of nuts with your order of a cocktail. The resort was a bit dead, limited restaurants were open for lunch and dinner, and just one pub was open. I walked in around 7 pm on a Saturday and it was empty… For lunch the next day, only three restaurants were open… dinner had a couple of more options to choose from and 한우촌 is pretty good. It would’ve been nice if the hotel had a bar. Also, there’s no shuttle service from Jinbu KTX station to the hotel. Taxi ride cost about 18,000 won. Taxi ride to Pyeongchang KTX station is about 60,000 won.

Been staying at this hotel for the last five years for our ski holidays. The hotel is located in a very convenient location with numerous eateries in the vicinity, the area is not overly crowded.
The hotel room is big and spacious with a balcony overseeing the ski slopes or the lake. I actually prefer the lake view. The hotel staff is attentive and helpful. Breakfast is awesome and entails a fabulous spread of food.
Stays previously at the hotel always included a complimentary fruit platter and sometimes even a bottle of wine. Business must be bad these days, there was nothing this year except for a bottle of drinking water. The sofa in the room is very seasoned and sunken.....perhaps time for a change.....
Will be looking for new hotels henceforth. The recognition and benefits of being a IHG member has such pathetic benefits. Sigh

We went to Pyeongchang in off season, we wanted to get out of Seoul. So the hotel and the Alpensia village was quite deserted. Anyway, we arrived ta the hotel to realize we had booked for the following day, never happened to me before but they made no big issue and we stayed starting a day earlier. All the staff were very helpful, from housekeeping to lobby lounge to concierge, all our requests were quickly handled. Lots of team members there are quite young and have a very good attitude. Thumbs up! The rooms are good, enough space, functional, comfortable. Only the wooden desk and other wooden furniture shows some wear and tear, not the best quality as it looks like. But nothing that spoils the stay. The hotel has a nice lobby lounge and an all day dining restaurant. Prices are very reasonable, I was a bit surprised coming from Seoul where hotel food and beverage is way overpriced. There is self service parking in the basement, very convenient, and elevators to the guest floor. In front of the hotel is a nice lake, very picturesque and to the other side a terrace and garden and after that Alpensia Village which has the Holiday Inn hotels as well as convenience stores, restaurants, cafes. So for a quick bite or snack one has a few options there. Overall we had a good stay and will go back.

As others have said this ski resort is good but could be so much better. We were expecting alot more from a 5 star intercontinental property but it did not live up to this.
Firstly in the lead up to our stay - any email we sent did not receive a response for days, sometimes weeks which was really frustrating. Even on arrival we found the service a bit slow and lack lustre. Cleaning wasn't great - we moved a chair and found an old chicken nugget underneath.
On arrival our rooms were comfortable. We had two interconnecting rooms with a very nice view of the lake. In true intercontinental style we expected amenities for the kids - gowns, slippers, treats. We got none of this. It was like they had no idea we had kids.
The food was average. The breakfast buffet was good. But when we ordered room service the breakfast was cold and incomplete. The whole time we were there the only option for dinner at the 1 restaurant was a ridiculously expensive buffet. There are many great food options in the ski village so I wouldn't bother with the hotel restaurant for dinner.
The kids club could also be improved. When our kids had enough of the snow we dropped them there so we could do a bit of skiing. The kids club lady was fantastic but they could have a much bigger space with better toys/equipment and activities. I imagine it would get much better use if the facilities were better.
The spa was very nice. We enjoyed using the sauna and spa baths after a day on the slopes. There is a small fee to use.
There was a tiny open fire in the foyer bar which was only lit at night. It would have been nice to see a much bigger, roaring fire at both lunch and dinner time.
Skiing at Alpensia is great for beginners. Although there wasn't much snow we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the slopes and found the lessons , equipment and clothes hire good value for money.

As expected, the beds, pillows, linens were very comfortable. The over-all ambiance of the hotel didn't disappoint. The view from my room at the 4th floor was awesome. Staff service was okay. The location is very convenient, it is walking distance going to the ski slopes (3 minutes walk). There are a lot of restaurants around the area (Korean, Baskin Robbins, CU Convenience store, cafes), around 3 minutes walk, too. There are shops that sell ski gears. The duty free shops are close though. I took the purple airport bus from Incheon Airport. It took 3.5 hours ride. The bus stops in front of the hotel. I also took the purple bus from Intercontinental going to Seoul. It was around 2.5 hours ride. I didn't go out of Alpensia Resort. Everything I need is right there. I will stay here again.

Firstly, front desk: I asked for a roll away bed in my ihg.com reservation and emailed them to confirm a week in advance. No reply to my email as other users have noted, and sure enough at check-in, there was no roll away bed because they had no idea I wanted one. Ok, perhaps they lost the email I sent but how could they not be bothered to read my ihg reservation? Not just the rollaway bed, but they gave the wrong rooms. I booked one twin bed classic room and one king bed classic room with rollaway bed. What I got was two king rooms and no rollaway bed. So it took an hour for them to switch out the king bed for twin beds, wasting my time at a hotel where they are very strict in enforcing 11am checkout times (no late checkout even for diamond elite members fyi when a quick scan of the hotel parking lot at 8pm was ~70% empty)
And in a surreal and sadly comical moment, the front desk lady did not understand “roll away bed” in English. After I tried hand gestures fora while, the lady finally nodded in understanding and then brought out a baby stroller instead. I’m not making this stuff up, look at the security video if you want, hotel manager. Dec 22 afternoon checkin.
Room quality: one of the worst “5-star” rooms I’ve ever stayed in; which is surprising for a 5~6 year old hotel. It almost seems unbelievable when I write it, but the countless cracks in the wallpaper and bathroom wall, the stains on the carpet and sofa, the water/mold stains on the ceiling of the bathroom that they tried to paint over but failed to cover up.. the list goes on. it truly is depressing. See the photos for yourself.
I don’t want to end with all negatives. The housekeeping was good, asked for extra towels and water and it came up within 5 minutes. Although it took several calls to “instant service” hotline to get through. I also suspect the poor room quality was not all a housekeeping/maintenance issue, but also a result of hurried construction ahead of the pyeong Chang Olympics. The countless cracks in wallpaper and bathroom marble would suggest construction quality was an issue.
Intercontinental group management, if you’re reading this, you need to enforce quality control here, this hotel is not good for your brand and franchise in Korea. The front desk / reservations SOP is in dire need of revamp, as well as room upkeep.

The hotel rooms were spacious and comfortable. We went there to ski in December, and although the skiing wasn’t great, as far as the snow was concerned, the hotel and the ski school etc. was pretty well equipped. Although the hotel had only 1 restaurant, there were plenty of good restaurants to choose from at the ski village for dinner every night.

Quaint little area in Pyeongchang, Alpensia where it's dominated by Holiday Inn & Hotel Intercontinental, and the latter being the more exclusive resort.
Slightly further but a quick stroll to the ski area makes it quieter at night.
Breakfast in the hotel doesn't have much changes in varieties, almost always the same for 5 days straight.
Beautiful suite with good cloak place to hang our ski suites and place our ski boots etc.
Perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough but I can't find lights in the balcony?
Also something to badly improve is to install international plugs like most of your IHG hotels to make it convenient for travellers.

A personal favorite for both myself and family. The resort is a few hours outside of Seoul (of course longer during weekend and holiday periods).
Upon arrival to the hotel, always a friendly welcome. The staff is “family friendly” and full of smiles.
The property itself is a mountain retreat. It is cozy in the mountains with many restaurants and activities to do nearby. Whether you are exploring the property, the complex or nearby communities you will find many activities for both self and family. Explore!
Breakfast buffet has some of the friendliest chefs and personable staff in the area. The children love the food offerings making it a personal favorite.
Summer, Fall, Winter or Spring … Alpensia has something for everybody!

Our first hotel stay outside of Seoul, this hotel is an excellent choice. We stayed just one day to catch the fall foliage, the beautiful Gyeongpo beach, and Mt Balwangsan cable car ride. A larger resort hotel, it offers a lot of luxury for a small price. The buffet breakfast was comparable to the ones in Seoul. Across the square are several eateries. We chose BBQ Chicken which was a good choice. This hotel is highly recommended.
