Our room was cozy and could accommodate all 6 of us. The kids loved that they had their own beds. I loved that we could have our laundry done on the same day. Such efficient service and good wi-fi which is a must when you are travelling with teenagers

Nice hotel in Ilocano style with a pleasant patio in front. I had the junior suite for 24€: it’s a room plus a sitting room with a mock kitchenette, that is an area shaped like a kitchen with even a sink and a hood but nothing else, no kitchenware, not even a kettle (maybe they had a project that failed....). The decor is very pleasant, the room comfortable and spacious. The bathroom small but sufficient, with hot shower (mind, you have to switch in the boiler), soap dispenser. No hair dryer. The air conditioner is pretty noisy. WiFi only works in the lobby but it’s fast. Breakfast is not included but you have a good choice. The restaurant is a good one too, you can have dinner there without looking for something else. The centre is not far but not reachable on foot, first because they have no maps and second because the roads are full of traffic with no sidewalk; a tricycle can get you there in about 5 minutes for 20 pesos. They accept credit cards.

Stayed 5 nights 21 to 25th Jan 2018. The Pension house has been converted from a former residence. Located 5 minutes by tricycle from Partas bus station and centre of town. 7 Eleven is 10 minutes walk for water, beer etc. Reception and adjacent area are attractive. Friendly staff. Spacious clean room with fridge, bedroom & living room with bedroom away from the road. Fittings are dated but functional. Wifi only functions in the lobby and adjacent area - on one day during our stay wifi was out for an extended period. Some construction noise during the day from remodelling of Mariano Marcos University building directly opposite. No coffee making facilities. Room has a kitchenette but no kitchen equipment . Saramsarm restaurant attached to the hotel was excellent with helpful staff - features both Ilocano dishes and pizza/pasta dishes with a local twist - we ate here on 4 occasions. Restaurant is open during the day and accounts can be charged to the room. Would definitely stay again.

I stayed at BDB last year and i enjoyed every minute of it. I always make sure to get the Executive Suite. Room 7, the best in Balay Da Blas. For our trip it was no brainer where to Stay. As usual check in was fast and efficient. The Executive Suite was how it was the last time. Timeless and feels like home. Thid time there was no mosquitoe problem. The only thing i noticed was that thr staff were forgetful but in a good way. For lunch they forgot my pinakbet pizza but it turned out good as we were already full. They apologized for it. 2nd was the juice i ordered for dinner. I ordered a pitcher but they just gave me glass and turned out good too as i did not like the juice. 3rd was this breakfast as they forgot my side dish order. Despite the minor bouts of amnesia i still gave BDB 5 stars. My cousin loved the room as well.

Staff here are the nicest in Ilocos. Food in Saramsam is great. Rooms are simple and clean, a little too old though for my taste. Very near town, a 7-1 1is just a block away , and the Marcos stadium, where you can jog at around 5:30 am when its not too hot. Will definitely come back to Balay, and next time with family.

There are not alot of choices in Laoag five years ago I visited but there are more offerings today, but I will always go back to old tried and true especially if I bring my dogs and family. The rooms are large with a living room and plenty of room for the kids to romp around in as well as the pooches. The owner also runs a restaurant nearby so really no need to go out but we did some biking around to check out the old church and visited the sand dunes too but just used our own suv which was 4x4 so it was perfectly fine but so hot on those dunes, we did one pass and went directly back to the pension before heading to our final desitnation Pagudpud the next day.

On our family’s outing in Ilocos, our first stop was at Laoag with an overnight stay. After much research for our accomodations, we decided on Balay da Blas Pensionne House because of the generally good reviews and they have a Barkada room that can accommodate 8-10 persons, just perfect for us. Although we hired a travel agency, I took the initiative to inquire about the room rates, etc. and after a few more e-mail exchanges, they “pencil booked” the barkada room for June 13-14, 2016. I informed them that our travel agency would be the one to finalize our reservation and payment. The rates vary depending on the no. of people who will stay as long as the limit are 10 guests for the Barkada Room. Our final rate was P5,700/night for 10 pax inclusive of VAT and breakfast. Breakfast was at their in-house restaurant: Saramsam Ylocano Restaurant. You can choose either beef tapa, tocino, tinapa, honey chicken, hotdog, corn beef, Ilocano longaniza, crunchy headless dilis, and boneless bangus, which were all served with garlic rice, fried egg, and either coffee, tea or hot chocolate. They took our orders the night before and the time we will have it served since breakfast starts at 6am. We arrived past lunchtime and we were warmly greeted by the reception staff. After the quick check-in, we were ushered to Room 11 (the Barkada room) at the 2nd floor of the newer building. The room was neat and clean, enhanced more by the predominant white color of the walls, beddings, chairs and tables. There is an upper loft where you can find 1 double bed, 1 queen bed and a small night table in between. They also placed an extra single bed on the floor for the 5th person who will also sleep on the loft. In the lower area, there is also 1 double bed and 1 queen bed, a sofabed, 2 square monobloc tables with 2 monobloc chairs, a flat screen tv with cable channels. and a cubby hole storage for our bags and gears. The 2 bathrooms are also here and it’s up to your group if you want to assign the bathrooms for males and females, etc. Bath and face towels for each guest were provided and liquid soap and toilet paper are in the bathrooms. But you need to bring your own shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush and slippers, and a hair dryer if you'll need one, as these are not included. There is an extra sink located outside the bathroom and a full-length mirror near it. What we liked: 1) The beds were firm but very comfortable so we all had a good night sleep with no backaches from the mattresses. 2) Staff were friendly, accommodating and courteous. They also promptly replied with all the e-mails I sent them. 3) Free wifi. 4) Electrical outlets were numerous and sufficient for all our gadgets. 5) Aircons cooled the room efficiently as there was one at the loft and the other at the lower level. 6) Hot and cold water in the shower. 7) Breakfast and lunch was delicious at Saramsam Ylocano Restaurant. 8) The standard check in time is at 1:00 PM (check-out time is at 12noon next day) but early check-in is allowed at 11am if the room is already available with no additional charge. However, if arrival will be from 5am-10:45am, there will be an additional 50% fee based on the room rate. (note: this policy may have changed as this review is almost a year old so it would be best to check with the establishment). 9) The receiving area/lobby was nicely decorated and furnished with comfortable sofas, wooden chairs and tables, wooden closets and potted plants. A koi pond also complemented the ambience. What we did not like: 1) Bed pillows were thin and only one was provided per person. 2) The bathrooms although clean, were small and narrow so it was a bit hard maneuvering especially when using the toilet. 3) The extra sink was small so splashes were unavoidable. 4) Parking area can only fit 2-3 vehicles. You can park on the street but it could be risky as the street is also narrow. Overall, it was a brief but pleasant experience staying here. As such, if you are looking for clean and affordable Laoag accommodations manned by an efficient staff, you can consider Balay da Blas.

Several of my friends and I decided a month before that Balay da Blas would be our home-base when we pass through Laoag during our northern trip. So to avoid any last-minute glitches, we made our reservation about two weeks before our intended stay. They were very quick in responding to our queries and were kind enough to adjust the price of the room we had initially reserved when one person in our group dropped out of the trip. In terms of service, they had very courteous and helpful staff who never failed to remain patient with us. We had a lot of questions about routes and schedules and such. They are also able to book your sand dunes adventure if you do decide to give it a try. The 4x4 picked us up and dropped us off at the pension house promptly and made it quite convenient for us to just sit back and enjoy the ride. Now, let me rave a bit about the room we were given. We managed to snag a room at the ground floor and let me tell you, it was an unexpected peek at how rooms decades ago could have looked like. And yet, it was so comfortable that we actually regretted having to stay for only one night. I forgot to take pictures because we were too busy admiring the design of the room. For those of you worried about charging the batteries of your gadgets, you can put your minds at ease because there are a lot of electrical outlets. The bathrooms were also adequate. Balay da Blas is near attractions in the city and accessibility to other areas was not an issue because there are a lot of tricycles nearby. The area was also quiet because it was near an elementary school. Another wonderful thing is that Saramsam, one of the most recommended restaurants in Laoag, is just within the premises. It's a must-try joint for those looking for deliciously authentic yet affordable Ilocano food. The breakfast included with the price of the room was also very satisfactory. Let's just say we went home well-fed. Now, let me warn you that there are no elevators so you may struggle a bit if you have a lot of luggage and you get a room at the third floor. Also, the place itself is small since it is a pension house. The area is quiet especially at night, so if you want to experience the nightlife at Laoag, you may have a hard time looking for a place nearby to satisfy your curiosity. Since we were pretty much fried by the time we finished dinner and we planned on leaving early, this wasn't an issue with us. For around P850 per person, it was really a steal to get to experience staying in one of the best Laoag has to offer. This is a place I can confidently recommend to anyone. I plan on coming back soon.
