Was vacationing in the Philippines, more specifically Laoag City and the surrounding area because that's where my mom grew up. Decided to stay here for about 2 weeks. Managed to get the executive suite.....and wow it was bigger than I thought it was gonna be, and the décor was utterly charming. The room can easily accommodate a family of four to six. There's a tv, and fridge. There's also a really good sized bathroom. Everything was clean as well. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Really glad it's located to where you can walk to where you need to go. Be it markets, places to eat, or if you just want to take in the local sights. Speaking of places to eat, there's a place down the street that sells some of the best pan de sal that I have ever had, and the best part is that it's only a couple seconds away from Balay Da Blas! Great way to start the morning...along with some coffee or tea. All in all, a very positive experience for my mother and me, and I hope you consider this place when you find yourself here in Ilocos Norte.

I stayed for a week used it as base camp when exploring the northern part of the Philippines. (Tip: reserve the executive suite for an amazing room.) Staff are very accommodating and friendly. There are also many walkable food options nearby as well as a 7-11 down the street. Loved this place would recommend.

It was a very pleasant short stay but Ms Anna and her accommodating and hospitable service, even though she was so busy and tired, was a very nice welcome to the guests. She helped me in choosing my rooms too and will help you with some of the tours too. The pensionne house has a strong wifi signal but only at the lobby and another disadvantage would be the small small parking area.

Our rooms located at Balay da Blas 1 are surprisingly big, and very reasonable comparing to the other place we have stayed in the night before (they were fully booked). Deluxe Suite Room #2, nicely decorated and clean, has a big comfortable sala, kitchen with ref, which have its own aircon and a bedroom with a queen size bed and has 2 bathrooms. It can accommodate up to 5 adults. And room#3 has the same amenities but with only 1 aircon and 1 bathroom. Yap, with bathroom amenities. They have a restaurant which serves delicious food from breakfast to dinner. Since it was our 3rd day in the North and have almost visited most of their tourist spots - we'd rather sleep in our rooms than go out again.

Don't worry too if you don't have a vehicle, their van rental/tour to the places in the far North like Pagudpud and in Vigan or just around Paoay (and their famous La Paz Sand Dunes), Laoag and Batac are very affordable. I'll do that next time when we come back.

I'd recommended it to my family and friends.

We stayed there for 3 days and the first 2days is insane and stressfull, the old pension house is haunted with spirits , door knobs is turning by itself on our first night, but the 2nd night really gets freaky the door in our room suddenly open by itself, so we talked to the management and demand to be move to the new building, the staffs are great they are very patience and willing to help. My intention of posting this review is not to discredit this place, I just find it unfair as a paying guest, and there rate is not cheap for average income people , you work hard for your money and you want to be in a solace place to relax and to enjoy your holiday.

I was able to get back to this hotel recently for another Ilocos adventure with another group of friends recently (Feb 28 2015). The receptionist still remembers me (thanks Anna!) and I was so happy for their warm welcome.

Great service, spacious and uniquely designed rooms for affordable rates, and tasty foods at their restaurant are what you'll get here. Will keep on coming back here for a relaxing stay.

I stayed at the junior suite no 4 for 2 nights. This hotel is perfect! It has a rare combination of:

1) Great room
Spacious, beautiful & traditionally-furnished room in a mansion. Sufficient big windows. The whole suite is very clean and airy with natural sunlight. You get a fan in the dining area and an air-cond in the bedroom. The double bed and pillows are cosy and comfortable. The shower has strong water pressure and consistent hot water. You can stand in the corridor outside your room and enjoy a view of the garden downstairs.

2) Great people
From the time I started emailing on query and booking, I already had a good feeling about the place. The owner, Sammy himself, is the ideal representative of the Ilocos Norte region. He is passionate and knowlegeable about the local culture and history. He is also very warm, friendly and helpful. He gives good and detail advices on itinerary and modes of transportation.

Sammy is blessed with excellent staffs too - they are efficient, bubbly and helpful all the time. I dealt mostly with Mel and Arlene. The Mindanao guy was nice too, he actually took me to the internet cafe across the road, rather than only telling me where it was. Though mostly, I used the internet in Sammy's office.

3) Great location / base
It is very quiet, and yet very near the Laog town. Tricycles are readily available. The staff will help hail one for you when needed. Laoag reminds me of my hometown, Kedah, 25 years ago. It's a place where everybody knows where everything is. When you take a tricycle, it is sufficient to give the name of the cafe/shop, without the street name or address. I also love the city museum. It tells a good story of the people and culture. The old well-preserved building itself is an exhibit.

Laoag also makes a good base to visit Pagudpud and surrounding areas. I took a 2-hour air-conditioned GMW bus ride to Pagudpud, and then hailed a tricycle to the beach, Burgos lighthouse, Bangui windmills and Kapurpurawan rock formation for P600. There's another list of places to visit for another P600. Wish I had the time. It is also ideal to take a jeepney for around 45 minutes to Paoay (Malacanang of the North and UNESCO heritage church) and Batac (Marcos Masoleum). Sammy and his staff can advise you on all this.

4) Great dining experience
I loved having breakfast in the mansion's beautiful garden. My favourite meal was tinapas (smoked fish) with garlic rice and scrambled eggs. Try the rice coffee, it's nice. What's more special is that beverages are served with mascavardo sugar (very raw form of sugar). Room service is also lovely as there is a pretty dining table in the TV area next to the windows. If you want to dine out, Sammy has his own restaurant in town, Samsara. I also visited Kamarin, his new cafe. It is a relaxing place with slow music. You can buy the mascavardo sugar there to bring home.

It is the only place I have stayed at where a guest is not short changed in any way. Moreover, it exceeds my expectation. My only regret was that I didn't stay longer. I thought Laoag was only a stopover to Vigan. Little did I know of its own special attractions.

Our room was just as described, and very reasonably priced, too. Their restaurant was a gem, truly a fusion of Ilocos old and new. The restaurant staff is well-trained, and it showed. The food did not disappoint.

We even came back the following day to eat, after our checkout.

We will definitely recommend you staying there.

Look no further, Balay da Blas is a must place to stay at when in Laoag. We called in the day off and told them we are arriving late. We decided to stop and have dinner at Vigan so we were about an hour late from our intended check-in time. The staff called us to make sure we are not lost and asked if we needed help finding the place. Check-in was a breeze, front desk staff are very professional and friendly. They offer free breakfast and they asked what we want and what time it will be served. Breakfast was great, quality and quantity wise. We stayed at their barkada room and it was spacious plus really nice to have 2 bathrooms. The room was clean and bright. You won't be disappointed!

So glad I conducted my research prior to booking for a place to stay in Laoag. As rated by Tripadvisor contributors, Balay da Blas ranked no. 1. So i immediately booked a room! I was surprised when we entered the room since its kind of an apartment! It has a living room, dining room, kitchen top, bedroom and 2 bathrooms! Perfect for our family!

Their restaurant is amazing! The set up, interior design and their awesome food are truly the best in Laoag or maybe in entire Ilocos! They serve authentic Ilocano food. I love their Pinakbet pizza! Check this out and you won't regret! Their free breakfast is also good.

Their staff are so courteous and accommodating. They immediately attend to your needs to whatever you request. After a whole day tour, this is the best place to rest and dine!

This is the first time that I will write a review for a hotel and I think it is the best way to express my happiness and also to say thanks to all staff especially Princess and Anna who replied in my queries via email and to Windard, our driver in our tour, who serve as out tour guide in our Laoag-Vigan-Pagudpud Tour.

Balay da Blas is like an apartelle type of building with an Old and Modern Theme, we stay in an old one particularly in Junior Suite and it is very spacious. The room is very clean, they change the towel everyday unlike with the other hotels. The staff are very accommodating and helpful at all times. The Breakfast is Good and serve with a cup of coffee, the one thing that i noticed was I need to follow up my breakfast every morning though I already told the staff duty at night the time of Delivery of our Breakfast in our room, but this one is not a big deal in our part (I think the reason for this is the staff are shy in knocking the door or they thinking that the guest are not yet awake, just to be positive).

Overall Verdict: If you are going to find an affordable but with a great service home away from home, Just choose BALAY THE BLAS (http://www.balaydablas-laoag.com/)

Again, In behalf of my partner, Thank You Balay Da Blas. I will definitely choose your hotel when I come back and visit Ilocos.

Are you referring to Calle Crisologo in Vigan? That is another town which is 2 hours away. Balay de Blas is in Laoag. It is near enough center of town if you want to see the church and the museum.
