We had a very cosy room with a wonderful view. We watched the stars out of bed at night and my surfing family at sunrise. Thanks to the reservation team- you made the birthday wish come true. It was another wonderful stay at this house full of Hawaiian history.
Had a pleasant work dinner with a colleague. The setting is fabulous as the location is immediately on the beach. The sausage sandwich, onion rings and fries were uniquely seasoned. The ambiance is welcoming especially in the late afternoon to see the sunset. Would suggest a visit to dine here.
If it weren’t for the location and friendly staff, I’d drop the rating a notch. The location is prime on the strip- epicenter of everything on Waikiki Beach- and literally right on the beach. The staff is super friendly and professional, and the lack of a better rating is largely beyond the control of 99 percent of them. Getting a good night’s sleep here is a challenge with the poor quality of bedding- no “Heavenly” brand here as expected, other than the towels. The pillows are cheap, over-stuffed fiberfill, medium / firm density, which are great for propping up your head to watch TV but terrible for sleeping. Marriott uses really nice down-filled pillows at their other properties, but the ones here are miserable. They are also wrapped in a polyester pillow protector, and the thin cotton pillow case isn’t thick enough to keep your face from sweating against the poly inner liner. The comforter is polyester and cheap feeling, again, making one sweat. The mattress in my room needs replaced - one size is totally beaten down and lumpy, while the other side is still firm and supportive. Sleep in this room on the 18th floor at almost $600/night has not been restful. The view from the room itself with balcony facing Diamond Head is absolutely incredible. Sounds of the surf permeate the space, which is oversized for a typical oceanfront hotel. Unfortunately, they shaved off too much of the bathroom space to do it. The small closet is in there behind the door, and the entire bathroom is tiny. Bidet with heated toilet seat is a great touch, though the light emitted from toilet bowl when the lid is opened is blinding at 3am. The hotel pool is extremely small and uninviting, and it feels very dated. Poolside bar prices are the highest of any surf-side hotel I’ve been to- almost $11 for a draft beer with tax- and the ambience around this bar is lacking a vibe, again, feels very dated. This hotel has a great location, but needs some quality bedding improvements and some freshening up to support that feeling and expense ($42 daily resort fee) of staying in a “resort” vs a nice hotel with prime view from upper floors.…
We stayed two nights and it’s a nice hotel. However it is certainly not worth the money we paid to stay there. It was very expensive for a room in a wing looking over the road. There are better options around. Having said that the old building is very nice and the staff very helpful
I went with my extended family and we booked 3 rooms. We ended with two types all tower rooms: (1) ocean view and (2) partial ocean view. We ended up on the 8th floor which was perfect as there were other families with children on the floor. Service: Wonderful (I’m a platinum member and really appreciated the service received. They were able to accomodate so our family was in the same floor.) Food: Delicious. Koji was our server for breakfast and everything we ate tasted heavenly. Also, the verdana/beach house was right on the beach so you could dine and enjoy the ocean view or enjoy the big banyan tree. Location: right on the beach and close to the safe Waikiki scene. It was close to everything although we did rent a car. Stuff I appreciate. No smoke smell: Truly Smoke free hotel. No smell of smoke in elevator, hallways, room, lobby, anywhere Children friendly: We went with an active 3 year old and many guests had young children and large families. For guests without kids they were friendly :D Your own mifi and slippers! : you’ll have to request it by asking the front desk. Mifi was great as I was working and could work anywhere with it. (You have to be fill a bunch of paperwork to check it out). Slippers were great and comfy. Balcony and view from room is perfect. ——- Had amazing stay. When I’m back in Oahu will definitely stay here again (even without a kid). Oh liked the rocking chairs too!!!…
This is the oldest hotel in Waikiki. The beauty of this hotel starts as you pull up and it’s like a little surprise, the more you explore the better it gets. Tons of places to enjoy food, resting and the beach. Our room was very nice.Maribeth took very good care of us. She made sure we had the little special comforts we enjoy. Thanks Shari
Excellent customer service since minute one! From being greeted with utmost Aloha by Frank at valet, to Keith at check in taking care of my wife and I for our room, and Richard helping get our bags to the room. Thank you for the amazing Aloha experience at Moana Surfrider! I recommend this place for anyone wanting the best!
Stayed here for a family vacation. Awesome location and friendly staff. Right at the beach with this beautiful banyan tree in the middle of the courtyard. Hefty price while rooms were rather small and bathroom in need of some updates. Cleanliness was good.
We loved Honolulu and came for my birthday. Previously we stayed at Kahala and loved everything about it only downside further out of centre. Room here great, breakfast was great and staff there lovely but that's about it. Pool is closed till 7am this doesn't stop people keeping towels and the loungers gone before 7am most days. We got a lounger on last day only cause I got up to watch sunrise but realise at 5.30am. The 3 loungers along from us were taken and the whole time only one person appeared for a very short 30 minute period and we left at 2.35pm (think preferential treatment with some guests) as previous day at 4.10pm despite lots of beds with no one on them when I asked if we could sit in two at the beach was told this would be $50!!!! Despite the property and the history it purely seems that money is the main interest here. On some evenings to sit on the rockers at the front of the property it's a 2 drink minimum. Also take note we were informed by our travel agent the room tax was $30 when it's $42 plus tax. Still love Hawaii just not this hotel.…
The meal was pleasant but nothing spectacular and some dishes were over cooked (fish and pork ) however it wasn’t a failure. For the price we did expect more but service makes up for a lot of the lack lustre dishes. Feedback from the various steak dishes was more positive so that’s probably the steer to others.
