It's close to the starting point of the Honolulu Marathon, so it's convenient to be able to use the restroom at the hotel instead of the crowded temporary toilets. It's also a 5-minute walk from the marathon convention center, so it's very convenient for those who want to participate in events before the main event or buy original goods.
If you're looking for a place to stay based on location and price (no resort fees), I definitely recommend it.

Right next door is Ala Moana Shopping Center, a classic Hawaiian shopping destination, as well as Don Quixote and Walmart, making it a great place to shop.
There's also Ala Moana Beach Park by the sea, which according to a local guide has a large, placid beach that's better than Waikiki Beach for swimming.
The room I stayed in this time was in the Ocean View category on the middle floor. It was not a beachside hotel, so even though it had an ocean view, it was not a view of the ocean right in front of us, but I could see the ocean to a certain extent, and the night view of the cityscape extending to the mountain side was a very beautiful room.
The room is not that big, but it feels bigger than it really is because it only has simple furnishings. You can enjoy the outside air with a balcony and deck chairs.
It is also equipped with a microwave and a slightly larger refrigerator, making it suitable for long-term stays.
The bathroom feels a bit aging, but it is well maintained and clean.
Apart from the famous steakhouse, the hotel's food and drink facilities are a bit poor, with a bar and buffet restaurant (no day or night operations) that serves as a breakfast venue, and Starbucks, but there are plenty of food and drink facilities in the Ala Moana shopping centre, which I mentioned earlier. It's not a bad idea to buy a frozen food box or pizza at a convenience store on the first floor and heat it up in your microwave.
It's less resort-like than a resort hotel in Waikiki, but it's convenient and affordable, so it might be a good idea for your second or subsequent stay in Hawaii.
By the way, it was also used a lot as a place to stay for Honolulu flight crews from various countries, and I saw CAs from various airlines. On the flight home from ANA, I spoke to CA and he said that ANA alone uses nearly 50 pilots and CAs every day.

As far as the rooms, it could use some updating and remodeling to make it much better. It’s definitely on the older side. Found some rooms we were put in did not have hot water and or a good water pressure compared to others. One plus is that we liked they had a pull out sofa/bed option. Housekeeping services could be improved upon in regards to attention to details as in bringing the exact number we asked for and also the long wait time to actually get the items from the time that we called.
Amenities: pool should be heated 24/7. We found it way too cold especially for when the sun goes down. In addition, the outdoor showers should have a heated option. Wished that the sauna returned. I also believe a great improvement would be adding in a Jacuzzi/hot tub. The pool staff are good especially Brayden who helped us several times throughout our stays.
Gym could use some expansion and remodeling. Basically having 6 people in there make it feel packed and like you were climbing on top of one another.
Elevators in the main Waikiki tower could take FOREVER at peak times so be prepared to wait.
Kona tower is known to be the older building out of the two compared to Waikiki tower. However each floor interconnects through the halls to avoid having to take 2 separate elevators.
Something small we found that was weird was that in the rooms there were no blankets or comforters only a small, thin sheet. We found ourself cold during the nights and needed up having to call hosieheeping to request some sort of additional blankets.
This hotel is decent, but there are a lot of things management could/should change to improve upon this hotel to reach its maximum potential.
But recently rates have been increasing and the value may not be good anymore
These improvements are a MUST in the next year 2024 or I cannot recommend Ala Moana hotel
1. Finish this year 2024 Kona and Waikiki tower every room remodel add plates and glasses for re heating food
2. Lower room rates to pandemic lower rates and never charge resort fees
3. Pool area turn back on Hot water at showers. Turn way up the pool temperature. Add hot water adult only larger jacuzzi jet spa since room is available on the pool area on top of deck.
Just saying thanks for good review or ideas are not good enough. GM reading this must make improvements then these investments will pay off and be better customer experience.
It's good that there is a kitchen, but I don't know how to use the dishwasher at all. (As others have said) It's a pain to have to ask every time. I wish they would provide a manual like the Japanese guide for coin laundry and bath water leakage.
What was good was the microwave and garbage disposal. It was good that I could dispose of all the banana peels and leftovers from my lunch box that I couldn't finish.

The small rooms are adequate, but certainly not worth the cost.
Since it has been renewed, the front lobby and so on are reasonably beautiful.
There are many staff, so the quality is different. Bell desks where luggage is left are a completely different experience, especially for people. It really sucks when there are only brusque people.
We had friendly people, but we had no smiling porters (no one was bringing us any luggage, we were on our own from the taxi to the counter) from the time of arrival, no smiling bell desks to hand luggage over, no smiling front desks.
On the rest of the day they were just normal people, so it was luck.
The rooms are usually old, so showers and the like are hard because of low water pressure. And it's much smellier because you can't smell the curtains and carpets.
I don't think there's any point because it's cheap.
Only laundry needs improvement. There are several large laundry units on the 13th floor, but everything is out of order and wiped out during my stay. There was a scramble for two aircraft on the sixth floor with guests.
I queued for an hour myself. The wastewater is rotten and watery and the stench is amazing.
Even if I told the front desk, I didn't know about the hotel because of the laundry company. It was a point I didn't call. Does management know that fact?
The location is great, so we may just keep going because we have customers.
