Kaimana Beach Hotel garners accolades for its friendly staff and its unique, modern beachy vibe that captivates guests. Situated on the beachfront, the hotel offers serene views and is conveniently close to Waikiki, though some guests may find the rooms on the smaller side. While opinions on value are divided, with criticisms of hidden fees, many find the location and amenities compensate well. Cleanliness is a highlight, with meticulous attention to room maintenance. Amenities like beach access and dining options are appreciated, although a lack of certain conveniences is noted.

This is hands down the best spot in Waikiki. Located along the beach just enough away from the busy central area but close enough to walk to all the excitement. The views from the west facing rooms are some of the best sunset opportunities on island.

This is a small legacy property that has been refreshed with a charming and colorful nod to Hawaii’s golden age and surf culture in general. The lobby is a wonderful surprise of pops of color with a direct view to the beach. The bohemian design is joyful and welcoming- and so is the staff!

The same vibe is carried over to the rooms that are fun, eclectic and comfortable. Get the beach view rooms if available ,well worth it.

Point to note; there is no pool but the hotel will pride beach chairs for lounging on the sand just a few steps from the lobby.

We stayed at the Kaimana on the last leg of a two week Oahu jaunt and had a mostly great stay.
The customer service here is second to none. We requested to add an extra night to our stay and the lovely lady on the phone not only booked us in but did everything in her power to keep us in the same room for the entire stay so we wouldn’t have to unpack so many times. We even got upgraded to the Park Wing 1 bedroom at no charge, though we offered to pay the difference.
The major issue was an ant problem. Luckily don’t think they bite and they did offer to move us, offered a free brunch, and waived many fees on our stay. But by then we had unpacked and packed so many times we just requested ant traps and were mostly fine. My husband was annoyed at having to kill 10-40 ants per day though and tying up any food opened or not in a large bag, camping style.

Pros:
Excellent quiet ac
Park wing 1 bedroom is huge with separate shower/bath, bedroom, living room
Beachfront onto nice local beach far from crazy Waikiki
Decent restaurant with beach view

Cons:
No elevator in park wing
Valet parking is only option at $40/day, and staff dour if not tipped each time
Noisy room facing parking lot (but slept fine with white noise app)

All in all would still recommend staying here. Maybe my second choice in town though.

We had an amazing stay at the Kaimana Hotel. It was a long weekend and one that I will not soon forget. I've been putting off this review, but as Fall has hit me and I am working nonstop -- I wish I were back in Hawaii! In the spirit of aloha, I wanted to take some time to share my favorite place with others by posting this long overdue review...

Of all the places we’ve traveled to-date, The Kaimana Hotel is by far our favorite place in the world. It is where we feel at home, but also on the most relaxing vacation. It is difficult to meet both of these expectations at the same time, but the Kaimana staff always deliver. The minute you step into the lobby, it hits you – the relaxed “chill” but still "upscale" decor, laidback smiling guests, attentive and helpful staff, all the while the smell of warm ocean air blowing through the beautiful lobby hits you, mixed with the scent of food from the Hau Tree restaurant. All of a sudden all your stress is taken away and you are instantly in a “vacation mode”, but you feel safe, cozy, welcome, and at home. I can't wait to go back.

What would make your trip to Oahu more enjoyable? The Kaimana is on the eastern part of Waikiki, and it is such a perfect place for a romantic weekend or a family stay! We've had visits where it's just us, and we splurge for the oceanfront rooms. The higher up the better, and we've also enjoyed the beauty of diamond head while facing away from the ocean too. For family, we've reserved the lower rooms that are a bit larger and have an ensuite area to create a living room vibe. The location has its own small beach with a lifeguard, is away from the lively part of Waikiki, and is only a ten minute walk (or 5 minute uber) to many restaurants. You're going to love it at the Kaimana Hotel. Your family will love too.

When you're there, you can ask for a chair to sit on the beach, advice about places to go, and meet other vacationers at the beach. The activities coordinator, a young sweet guy, will help you figure out everything to do. You can eat at the Hau tree (lemon Ricotta pancakes are our favorite breakfast, scallops are our favorite dinner), and you will always find the manager, Haaheo, wandering around to make sure everything is perfect. Don't be afraid to greet with hime an "aloha!" and ask for advice or let him know how your stay is going. The staff are genuine and kind and you will probably make some new friends on your stay :)

We had an ocean-facing room on the 7th floor and enjoyed chilling on the balcony.

The room, though compact had enough room to move around. There was just a single chair inside and two on the balcony.

We had to request a kettle and coffee maker (and coffee and tea supplies) but they were promptly delivered.

There was a small empty fridge tucked in a cupboard.

The Queen bed was soft and bouncy but very comfortable and we slept well.

The shower over the small bath tub was good and meant there was room to move.

We made use of the beach towel service but none of the other resort facilities.

We parked our hire car on nearby Paki Rd because we didn't want to stump up the $40 a day valet parking fee.

The staff were all friendly and helpful.

The location is great, since it's quieter than the main part of Waikiki but a level 20 min walk to the bright lights.

From pre-visit communications with Kalei, the concierge, to the attention of Mitzi, who took care of our room, the Kaimana Beach Hotel realizes that the difference between a good stay and a great stay is the people who make the magic happen. A special shout-out to Kalei, who arranged excellent island tours with select vendors, greeted us by name as we stepped out of the taxi, and surprised us with delicious treats in our beautiful and immaculate ocean view room. The Hau Tree restaurant lived up to its reputation as a gourmet destination in its own right, with a quirky, original menu that highlights local flavors. The hotel is located at the quiet end of Waikiki, which we loved, and the beach is a lively mix of local residents and hotel guests. Rather than renting a car and navigating Honolulu traffic, the hotel referred us to Tony's Taxi service, who deserves his own glowing review. He was always just a phone call away for restaurants and shopping, and gave us a terrific circle island tour. We leave tomorrow morning for our flight back to Boston, and it feels like we're leaving the home of dear friends. Hoping you enjoy your stay here as much as we did!

The Kaimana Beach Hotel is a hidden gem of Kalakaua. The lobby is gorgeous and clearly had been recently renovated with vibrant and tropical decor that blends impressions of old and new Hawai'i. We checked in and were warmly greeted by Kyle who made us feel right at home. He was delightful, extremely knowledgeable, cute(!), and gave us great recommendations for restaurants and sight seeing. He also informed us that there were plenty of features that were included with our room; longboard, bicycle, and umbrella&chair rentals for the exclusive slice of beach right in front of the property. Once we checked into our Diamond Head room which was spotless and boasted the city's best views of the iconic landmark, we required some assistance. Keala promptly arrived and was accommodating, attentive, and just an absolute ray of sunshine. It was a refreshing change to be at a hotel in 2021 where it felt like the staff was well trained and actually wanted to provide a memorable, quality experience. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The service is what really set this place apart from its competitors and is one of the many reasons why we will be back.

Booked the hotel because of the beach access and thought it was newly remodeled.

Pros: away from the chaos in downtown Waikiki. Hotel is next to a park where you can find street parking for free instead of paying $35 a night. Beach access was a plus and they offer beach towels, chairs and umbrellas. Unfortunately I did not know about the chairs or umbrellas until I saw them outside and had to ask staff. Apparently they also have bikes and surf boards but I was not informed of this from the staff.

The lanai from the corner ocean view room was spacious. Our room faced west and had views of diamond head and the parking lot.

Cons: Only one food option. If you’re coming in the late evening like we did around 730-8 at the end of the day make sure to grab food on the way back. Only walkable option was the hotel restaurant. Sometimes you just want a quick meal.

From social media and their website I assumed all of the rooms are updated but only the suites and lobby are. We booked a corner ocean view and that was not updated like all their pictures on the website. Hotel grounds are dated and main walkway in the hotel had a foul odor and needed updating.

Overall, hotel was good. Plus was direct beach access (literally 2 min walk from our room) and calmness of the location. We drove by downtown Waikiki and it was busy. Almost reminds me of the Vegas strip. Staff was knowledgeable and polite nothing special. If you’re looking for quick eats, resort style hotel this is not the place. But if you want something quiet with beach access and still the feel of Hawaii this is the place.

The allure of this hotel is its location and if you choose the right room it's an amazing view but the hotel is dated and the room was not professionally cleaned, hair was left in the bathroom sink and tub. We did not have cold running water from the bathroom sink there was no coffee maker in the room which is a part of the amenity that was listed found out that they do not offer free coffee what hotel does not offer guest free coffee I don't understand. Finally I had an amazing view but my hotel room and hotel was compared to a days inn or a super 8 motel I believe people who are the older generation have some type of love affair with this place but trust me it is not worth the $400 a night room spent for 5 days I could have went to the Hilton and got something much better. Oh yeah and when I asked the receptionist to address the dirty room no one followed up.

We've been staying at the Kaimana (formerly New Otani Kaimana) for the past ten years because of its intimate, low key ambiance, friendly staff and sensational beach location. You can get from your room to the beach in about five minutes. We stayed in the stylish Queen Kapiolani Suite this trip and it had a bathroom with a million dollar view. The lobby and restaurant have been renovated and are cheerfully chic. Our only regret was switching to a luxury hotel nearby halfway through our trip to try that property. We knew immediately that we preferred the Kaimana and vowed not to stray again. One of our only wishes would be to see them be more eco-friendly with their toiletries and to recycle more obviously. Otherwise, we can't wait to visit our home away from home again.

Beautiful hotel. Property is on the beautiful Kaimana Beach, which provides a real hawaian experience. It is located at the the end of Waikiki, on Diamond head, so its very quiet but yet only 10-15 minutes walk to the Waikiki area. It offers a really nice restaurant, very good food and the best thing is that all the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful, front desk, and everywhere. The hotel includes use of umbrellas and small chairs for the beach, which I found very convenient. Also the rooms were very confortable with a small refrigerator and coffee maker on request. My last 3 nights I was upgraded to a ocean view room and it was spacious and had a gorgeous view of the whole Waikiki area. Also rooms have balconies with double pane sliding doors so it was very quiet. I totally recommend this hotel if you are looking for a great hawaian experience.

We stayed here in 2019, so I’m not sure if anything has changed since then, but there is a small convenience store next to the hotel Russell’s Convenience. But I believe it closes before 9pm. The restaurant in the hotel - Hau Tree, I think will also be closed by then. If you can, I would suggest picking something up on the way to the hotel.
