Nestled in the heart of Waikiki, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa garners praise for its exceptional location, offering guests easy access to the beach, shopping, and dining. Opinions on service are divided, with accolades for the staff's friendliness contrasted by frustrations over occasional inattentiveness and upgrade difficulties. The hotel's value is a point of contention for many travelers, who find the additional fees and costly parking to detract from their experience. While the resort's ambiance is appreciated for its mix of contemporary and dated elements, guests suggest booking higher floors to avoid the noise from ongoing construction and traffic. The amenities are well-liked, particularly the proximity to the beach, but some find the rooms outdated and not as clean as expected, despite the hotel's overall commitment to cleanliness.

We chose this hotel because we’d had a great experience at the Hyatt Regency Churchill in London some years back. I’m not sure whether this brand is a franchise? This was an entirely different experience (and not in a good way!)

Reception: the reception split level thing they’ve got going on is confusing, some lifts go to certain floors some don’t.
We had some room issues on check in due to room cleanliness, these issues were resolved promptly.

Lifts: The queues were annoying at times, just be prepared that at certain times of the day you may have to wait for a few two.

Rooms: as other reviewers have pointed out, this is an old hotel and the rooms are good with their soundproofing but not great. Be prepared to hear noisy neighbours and some street level traffic noise too.
Decor was fine, fixtures and fittings were tired and chipped, scuffs on the walls, maintenance was lacking - our TV had been installed on the wall at a wonky angle, very slapdash.
The bathroom was a bit tired and randomly had one of those fancy toilets that warms the seat and cleans your bum! I think these have been installed to keep the many Japanese guests happy.
Bed was comfy and large.

Restaurants: never went in the buffet because it’s wildly expensive, I only saw Japanese and US guests in it! We visited Swim Bar a few times which was fine for a light meal option. We used the ABC in the lobby area quite a lot during our stay.

Pool: small and busy. Just go to beach across the road instead.

Laundry: very good, reasonably priced and lots of machines available.

Location: this is what sells the hotel, it’s nigh on perfectly located.

Extra fees: we had resort fees thrown in with our room rate by our travel agent but these would have been an annoying extra to pay for since they aren’t cheap. This isn’t really a resort, it’s a bog standard hotel pinching a few extra pennies IMO in the name of a resort fee.

Room Tip: Try to get a room as high as you can to reduce street level traffic noise.

We enjoyed a couple of nights here to kick off our Hawaii trip. I was initially a bit hesitant to book after reading some other poor reviews about service and quality, but the property exceeded our expectations. The staff was very polite and helpful upon check-in and they left us some chocolates for my birthday. The rooms were also very nice and spacious - we appreciated the modern touches like ample plugs by the bed and very large TV, and thoughtful features like a clothes line in the shower to hang up wet swimsuits. It was also great to have a balcony to step outside. Very convenient to exchange beach towels with the self-service kiosk down by the pool. Great location just across the street from the beach!

The Mai Tai at the pool bar was one of the best I had across our entire trip spanning two islands. It was much fresher (and boozier) than anything else I had (which all tasted like a pre-made juice mix). The front desk agent gave us two free drink vouchers when we checked in (a great deal considering they are $17!).

We also enjoyed Kai Coffee in the attached shopping center, which was consistently higher quality than most local shops we tried.

Drawbacks were the gym is a bit cramped and stuffy, but we didn't plan to spend too much time there anyway. And I found the breakfast buffet to be overpriced ($40/pp) for what they actually offered and compared to other Hyatt Regency properties we've stayed at. Luckily the pool bar serves a decent breakfast!

If you’re looking for an excellent stay in the heart of Waikiki this is your spot. Impeccable service (one day there was a miscommunication about housekeeping and the next day we got a call from a manager to make it right); you request a towel- it’s at your room in minutes literally. The room is spacious and super clean, bedding is comfortable. Lobby is gorgeous with an open atrium with fun events ongoing. Great little room amenities including water bottles, toothbrushes etc. we requested a microwave which was delivered promptly; they even sent up an extra fridge! The pool is a bit small but not surprising for an urban location and its view is spectacular. Workout room is nice. The beach is right across the street and beach chairs are available. Concierge is very helpful. Bathroom in the room is OK and the patio is small but nice. Overall- excellent stay and highly recommend.

This is an honest review of the Hyatt Regency waikiki beach, I will give you the pros and cons, but the resort is not up to the Hyatt Regency standards, not even close. The mistake we made was we booked it quickly based on the fact that it was a regency, assuming it would be held to the same standards as the other Hyatt Regency’s that we have experienced, not even close. We used a great chunk of our Hyatt points to book the 5 night stay, of course you get the basic room and you should get offered an upgrade if available. When we arrived at check in we were really not greeted, not offered water , not offered any upgrade, when I asked about the upgrade I was told there were none available. I went online right at the desk and was able to book the upgraded room for the exact dates we were staying, the clerk was annoyed and went to ask her manager, she came back with the upgraded room without a problem. We know that most of the buildings in Waikiki are older but this Hyatt Regency needs more then a facelift, it needs a good cleaning to start, from gum on the floors to stained seat cousins in the regency club, dirty tables not wiped down after a family is done eating, the place is neglected. The reception area is dark and damp, the room was clean and well stocked with soap and towels, the maid service was excellent and efficient. We only ate breakfast in the hotel, the food in the regency club was average, but they don’t really clean up as people come and go. The breakfast buffet st $45.00 per person is a bit over priced, some of the food was cold. They could easily upgrade the place, clean it up and charge $75.00 and most people would pay it. The elevator in the diamond tower is a accident waiting to happen, the entire car shakes left to right and creates a scary ride up to your floor, creaky and noisy. The staff for the most part were friendly and helpful, the Hawaiian people are amazing, but the Hyatt chain is letting them down by not updating this place. Upon walking the island we found some amazing high end resorts that we will try next. We have been world of Hyatt members for years and never ever have been let down by a Hyatt property until now, we wasted our points to say the least. The pool area was small but clean, the location is great, the gym was well maintained but allows children to play on the machines. Bottom line, this is not up to Hyatt Regency standards, should be updated or renamed as not to mislead Hyatt members.

I booked an ocean view high floor king room for our wedding anniversary. I booked 5 months in advance to ensure a good room. The room on the 31st floor only had a partial ocean view from the balcony, with the main view of other high rise buildings, which was disappointing.
I was surprised at how noisy it was on the 31st floor, mainly traffic noise especially during the night, every night of our 9 night stay when motorbikes and cars would drag race up the main road along the beachfront. The sliding glass doors are not double glazed or fitted with acoustic glass. Also a lot of noise from people in the neighbouring room which we could hear through the connecting door.
The room was spacious and housekeeping did a great job making up the room each day. However, for the price we paid I was disappointed that there weren’t cups/mugs or teaspoons in the room to make a decent cup of coffee. There were paper cups with plastic lids and 2 sachets of coffee supplied each day.
This hotel fell far short of our expectations.

During our January 2023 trip to Waikiki we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki across from Waikiki Beach and it was awesome.

EVERYTHING you could want was within walking distance from the hotel!! The beach was directly across the street, where you could rent beach chairs and umbrella's from Oahu Dive (the hotel provided chairs and towels to guests, so we just got the umbrella).

The Hyatt had a vendor/farmers market on-site Monday and Wednesday (weekly) with great fresh food and fruit options! We had an ocean view room on the 19th floor that didn't disappoint...we left the patio door open the entire trip to hear the waves all night long!

There are also several island excursions that will pick you up and drop you back off from this Hyatt location, which was great since we opted not to rent a vehicle. hotel also provided two refillable water bottles in the room and a filtered refilling station near the lobby! Check in and out was easy and the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Overall, I felt this was a great resort and provided everything we needed for our stay and was in the center of everything.

My favorite part is being able to leave the room with just a room key, grab a rental towel on the way out then cross the street to the beach. The location is across the street from a great beach where they have surf competitions, and is also centrally located for shops and dining. There is live music and other events in the lobby almost every day and the hotel was spotless with no musty beach hotel smell. My favorite stay at Waikiki!

Booked a room (1 King Bed, Ocean Front View) at the Hyatt Regency for our family's vacation. Very spacious room, bed large enough for all 3 of us, one person can also sleep on the chaise chair. The view from the balcony/lanai of ocean was spectacular throughout day. Room AC worked very well, but felt chilly at night, had to turn the AC down before bed otherwise you wake up freezing. Its pretty strong
when at the bed, but less so next to sliding doors getting all heat from sun unless you have curtain drawn. Only 2 minor gripes with room, 1- was that the walls were bit scuffed and could have used a fresh coat of paint or a good wiping down in areas. 1st was shocked due to cost of the room, however as I spent more time there, it didn't bother me as much or make our stay less comfortable. The bidet toilet seat was a plus for sure. 2- every time we used the shower, there would be a small puddle of water on the floor no matter what, so just throw the floor towel on the ground to soak it up. Never figured out why it did that, maybe the cloth shower curtains was to blame. In terms of the hotel itself, I liked the ice and filtered water dispensers on each room floor. However, didn't like how the public microwave was moved to the 4th floor laundry room in Diamond Head tower towards the end of our stay. Initially it was next to the water station before the Ewa tower elevators on the 3rd floor, easy access. It was a bit of a hassle as we were staying at the Ewa tower side. That also brings me to the laundry room, its only in one tower, not exactly clean, a tad small for size of resort, cramped, and very hot to be in. Just beware if needing to do laundry, nice that it is on the premises though, so no need to use one outside. There were some decent dining options on premises or just outside, however the Shor breakfast buffet was a tad expensive for adults for the quality of food, all the bread option were rather stale/dried out especially the English muffins on the eggs benedict and the waffles, rather disappointing. Other than that, we had a wonderful time staying at this hotel. It was very conveniently located close to a lot of main eateries and shopping plazas/malls/marketplaces. Plus right across the street from the beach, and right next to Kuhio Beach Park which has the wave break wall pools to lessen the strong powerful waves. A great place for children and less experienced swimmers with more gentle waves rather than the full force of the ocean.

I spent four nights on the 22nd floor.
The bath facilities were old and it was difficult to adjust the temperature. The voice of the room echoes throughout.
The sound of showers, doors opening and closing, etc.
It echoes.
The room is spacious and can accommodate two suitcases.
I was able to sleep comfortably and stay comfortably.
The room was also cleaned.
Water bottles with the hotel logo are also available in the rooms, and there is a water dispenser on each floor that can be refilled at will. Bottles can be taken home.
Most of all, the view was great, Waikiki Beach was right in front of me, and I was glad that I could see the night view of the mountain side and the rainbow was beautiful during my stay.
On the ground floor was Kai Coffee, where you can enjoy authentic coffee from Hawaii, and this was my first time using it, and they were all delicious. I made each acai bowl carefully after I received my order. The clerk was kind, too. They sold specialty coffee beans, 100% cow coffee and espresso. Recommendations for souvenirs from Hawaii.
You can choose either bean type or flour type and tell the staff and they will powder it on the spot.
The original mugs, hydroflasks and T-shirts were also very cute. The early hours of the morning can be crowded, so it's a Recommendation to go at different times.

I recently stayed at the Hyatt and had a mixed experience. There were a couple of frustrations during our visit that I'd like to mention. First, we paid extra for a sea view room, but unfortunately, we only got a partial view, which was disappointing. Additionally, the constant maintenance on the escalators throughout the hotel was quite annoying.

On one particular day, we were disappointed to find that the pool, Jacuzzi, and bar closed early in the afternoon due to a private function. When you're paying a high resort tax, you expect to have access to all facilities, so this was a letdown.

Another disappointment was the buffet breakfast offered at the hotel, priced at a whopping $92 per adult. While it was nice, it was ridiculously overpriced and simply not worth the money.

However, there were some positives to our stay. The hotel's location was fantastic, right on Waikiki Beach, and surrounded by mid to premium shops and boutiques and places to eat. . The hotel provided free purified water stations, which was a great self-service option, considering how expensive buying bottled water can be in the area.

Furthermore, the rooms were very clean and well-maintained, and the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and accommodating. Despite the frustrations, the positives of the stay ultimately made it a decent experience.
