Everything was fun. First of all - their mascot is Jack the bulldog - who lives on the second floor. That alone moves them up the ladder of cool. Then, the employees at the desk and throughout the hotel couldn’t be nicer. The decor was just the right about of beach and kitsch. Ian the bartender was a great mixologist/conversationalist, steering you thru myriad cocktails like the Captain of a ship sailing thru a tight passage. The location was totally walkable to all the fashionista and hipster locations on Waikiki but we were just far enough away to not feel crowded. Plus they had at least one person playing live music around the pool almost every night. I would definitely stay there again.

We selected SurfJack hotel because they are a dog friendly hotel and had seen the tv ads. However, we found out they are not only dog friendly but family and people friendly also. Alex and Jon were so friendly and helpful, as were the other staff. You could ID staff by their SurfJack casual attire. As senior locals we rarely go to Waikiki but the location was in a less busy and safe area, in between Kalakaua and Ala Wai for doggie walks. The hotel gave us an unexpected room upgrade and all rooms have lanais with views and are really clean. Love the surf/beach type decor. The shower faucet has a heating device so there was no waste of water while waiting for a hot shower. They do not charge extra for doggie family and have free parking which is a nice walk from hotel - perfect for extra doggie walking. They give 15% off when eating at the hotel so we, including doggie, enjoyed dinner at Mahina and Sons poolside with entertainment by Kelly boy Delima. We also enjoyed breakfast and their barista. All menus feature local products and my husband really enjoyed his ulu mashed potatoes served with his fish. They had a local craft fair on the night of our stay which was great for supporting local. The hotel also provides an area with free coffee and a pure flow water cooler for drinking, filling your water jugs. The pool was cute and we enjoyed watching families swim and have fun. This is a wonderful cozy and comfortable home away from home that I have been raving to others about. No question as to which hotel to book next go around. Thank you SurfJack for making us feel really comfortable and welcomed!!

Spent one night at the Surfjack upon arriving in Honolulu since we wanted to hike Diamond Head the next morning before heading to the North Shore. Both Whitney and Jon at the reservation desk could not have been more cheerful and welcoming when we arrived mid-day. Unloading our car in front was easy and the Hyatt Centric parking garage is conveniently located just a couple short blocks away, a great perk for only $10 per 24hrs.

Since our room would not be ready before the regular 3pm check in time, they tagged our many bags and kept them safe while we made the easy walk down to the beach. We were so pleased coming back to an upgrade for a corner one-bedroom suite on the 8th floor which included a balcony with views of the canal. Having the extra space to spread out was really nice and we also had a refreshing afternoon swim in the sparkling courtyard pool. We left our dogs home, so greeting the pooches (including Jack) with their owners was fun for us, but this also really should not be an issue for non-pet people since everyone with animals was very respectful of other guests. We had a great morning at DIamond Head after Kaui at the desk eased our fears about getting back in time for the official 12pm check out time by extending us an extra 30-minute grace period (which we didn't end up needing).

The Surfjack is not a fancy high rise hotel, but the place has character and a positive, professional young staff that makes it standout as a tremendous value among the many other options in Wakiki. Do yourself a big favor and book them now if you are planning an upcoming visit to Honolulu!

Since we have family and friends in Oahu, we’ve never had to stay at a hotel. There were so many to choose from that it felt very overwhelming when we were exploring options. We chose Surfjack mainly because of the free parking space and proximity to the beach (15-min walk to Waikiki). We all enjoyed staying in this hotel for different reasons. My son said it was the best shower head flow he had ever experienced, and he also liked the larger size of the bathroom. My husband remarked that staff were very friendly and room was clean and a good size (we had a one bedroom with queen bed and double sofabed). I loved that the towels were clean and fluffy, almost like new, and the bedroom/bathroom floors and fixtures (including toilet) were modern and high quality. All of us enjoyed the festive, welcoming open seating lobby area around the pool. The only downsides were slight lumpiness in the queen bed, and having to walk two blocks to and from the Hyatt Centric parking structure, but we were thankful it was included in the price of the room.

Overall: A boutique hotel with a retro theme at a great location. Most staff are friendly and helpful. We stayed at this property for 5d/4n.

Room: The room is clean and we like the decor and the retro theme. However, the size of the room is small especially the bathroom area. The counter space in the bathroom is very limited and lighting is not enough. So not good if you need space and lighting to do make up and hair.

Amenities: Parking is complimentary but is offsite. The lot is located at Hyatt hotel which is just a few minutes walk away. There is an all-day water station (filtered) for guests to use which we like it. There is a swimming pool at the property right in the center of the property but we didn’t use. The hotel does not offer breakfast in the morning. The property has a restaurant and it has live singing/music performance on a daily basis.

Conclusion: It is a unique hotel with central location. We will stay there again.

We had a 2 bedroom suite which was very spacious with a great living / sitting area and was well presented. The rooms were very clean and modern looking with comfortable beds and pillows. There was a large TV in the sitting room and bedroom with lots of channels to choose from. Wifi reception was excellent and fast and the room had some USB charging points. The suite had a king bed in each room with no option to change one of them for two singles to suit our kids so they had to share a bed but at least it was a large king bed. There is only one bathroom but it is very large for 2 people able to use the bench space at once but the toilet is part of the bathroom and not separated by a door. The room had nice air conditioning and ceiling fans which is good so you don't have to have the ac on the whole night. There is a small bar fridge and we requested a microwave and the staff were quick to bring one up for us to use during our stay. The suite was very well priced for a 2 bedroom suite in Waikiki which was one of the main reasons we selected this hotel along with the excellent reviews.
The staff were always friendly and welcoming and we appreciated never having to wait a long time for lifts which is often a problem with some of the larger hotels.
The pool is on the small side and not a lot of pool chairs but it's ok.
It is a dog friendly hotel so you will see the occasional dog around but this was a bonus for us.
Parking rates are probably the cheapest you will find in Waikiki.
The location is not as good as some of the beachfront locations but I would expect that given the room prices. It's an easy 5 minute stroll to where all the action is (shopping/restaurants) and another few minutes more and you are on the beach. It felt very safe walking the short distance at night. There is an ABC convenience store only a minute away and a few restaurants along the way too.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Surfjack if you are looking for a reasonably priced boutique hotel without all the hustle and bustle of the big resorts and need 2 bedrooms.

We had stayed here before pre pandemic and enjoyed our stay so we came back again. We got upgraded to a penthouse room which was a nice perk, room had a separate living area and access to a rooftop area which we did not use much due to the heat during the daytime. They used to have small toiletries in the bathroom but now have switched to large multiuse containers in the shower which is better for the environment. They used to charge for parking but now parking is included which is a nice perk. The parking lot is about 1.5 blocks away. There is a coffee shop downstairs but it recently closed right before our stay. The pool is in the main lobby area and has more activity on weekends. There is a water dispenser and sunscreen in the lobby though sunscreen was empty during our stay there. Staff is friendly. I would stay there again as it's a good value for the area.

Hello, I booked because there were glowing and positive comments but frankly, we were disappointed! We took the family apartment with 2 bedrooms. Surprised at first to find that the master bedroom had a connecting door with a room with other guests, and there we could hear everything... it was a simple door, quite basic... whereas normally there is at minus 2 doors to reduce noise (one on each side...), this room was occupied by a couple and 2 young children... in short, not much privacy for us. We asked to change given the inconvenience but we were told that if we wanted 2 rooms we would have to pay the difference. We had obviously booked a 2 bedroom apartment because it was more advantageous than 2 separate bedrooms so... We ended our stay in this apartment. Several other negative points: furniture in poor condition, bedding not exceptional, damaged and poorly laid floor, see photos. And finally a lot of dogs, we like dogs so not a problem but we hadn't seen the information...this hotel is indeed dog friendly, so there are water bowls, it smells a little like pee dog and the wet dog from time to time...on the other hand, we did not hear any barking. This may be why the sofa in the apartment is not very fresh if the hotel is obliged to clean it regularly after the passage of animals... in short, we were not seduced, the swimming pool is very small, often in the shade, you can see the street from the swimming pool because the hotel is quite open, so you don't have the feeling of being in a cocoon. 2 Only positive points in our eyes: every evening, live musician and geographical location right in the center.

My fave place in Waikiki! We slept in our room a lot the bedroom was comfortable and sound proofing was decent. In the evening, there is live music and one of the musicians was a staff member. He was the nicest person at the hotel too. There were some issues at the start including lack of hot water. I was awake pretty at some point at all hours of the day including middle of the night. There are roaches, and a wee one came crawling out in the bathroom, and the hot water wasn't working. I would suggest storing your luggage into giant contracter garbage bags to keep pests out. I also wish the mini fridges were big enough to store food. There is available parking at another hotel garage. The turns and spaces are tight so definitely drive slowly and carefully. Would we return? Yes. We lucked out we were neighbor's with the resident pupper. *note we travelled a year ago but cannot choose that timeline.

We stayed in a two bedroom suite with 4 adults and one toddler and it was the perfect amount of space. Rooms were very comfortable and the main living space area was very spacious for our little toddler to run around and play with his toys. The mini fridge was great to have to store drinks and snacks. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were very clean and spacious. The lighting was a little dark in the bathroom though. We enjoyed the cafe downstairs, it was great to have first thing in the morning or needing an afternoon pick me up. The hotel does offer free black coffee in the morning as well. The pool was great, was never too crowded. We were concerned about the live music and being able to hear it from our room but we were on the 8th floor and didn’t hear a thing. The location is great, far enough from the busier parts of Waikiki but still close enough to walk to the restaurants and shops. Parking was 2 blocks away in the Hyatt Centric Parking garage and we never had troubles finding a spot. The only thing that was concerning was that it seemed as though they didn’t clean the room floors that much. My kids feet were always black after running around barefoot. I would suggest bring or buy some slippers. Besides that, we would definitely stay here again. The positives outweigh the negatives and we’re looking forward to our next stay here.

We remember that there was shadow in the evening but it was pretty much in the sun throughout the day. If you need shade it is very easy to relax under the overhang surrounding the pool area. There are tables and chairs and even sofas for lounging as well as a few chaises that are right by pool.
