I really enjoyed the Waikiki Malia and will definitely stay here again. The location is perfect, the room (newly renovated section) was very comfy, and the staff were great. There are two excellent sources of food/take-out nearby to be aware of. One is Island Country Markets, just a 3 minute walk. They serve hot food and have an excellent Loco Moco (plus lots of other things), nice lunch options too. There's also the Waikiki Market, a 7 minute walk in the other direction. This is a huge grocery store with a big food counter, and they have fabulous Poke, plus many other meals. Highly recommended! This was my first time in Waikiki and I really loved the Malia. It's a fun area for walking around, and the beach is very close.

Wonderful hotel located within steps to Waikiki Beach and surrounding area. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and available; Pam behind the front desk was extremely cheerful and helpful! We used the gym each day, which was well equipped and easily accessible. We will definitely be back!

The hotel itself is good the rooms are good and the whole stay in the rooms was a good experience. Housekeeping was sweet and everyone hear was so nice. Parking lot was horrible so tight and I scratched my rental car. There is minimal parking space and all of the parking spots barely fit the bmw x5 that I got which okay but none of this was listed anywhere I wouldn’t have paid for parking if I knew! that was definitely the worst part of the trip cuz I left like it was impossible getting out it was scary and thankfully we got protection on our car rental. I would suggest them putting this information on their website or a sign outside, the only thing outside was a sign about the two way traffic on the thin entrance but nothing about parking spaces. Definitely get a compact car if parking here!! Also one small thing is the fees that were added on during check in that was mentioned when we booked the hotel I would’ve thought it was all included so that was another 200$. Parking was expensive as well i believe $100.

Expedia claimed this was a 4 star hotel but it is clearly a 3 star hotel. The room we got had dirty bathrooms and was very old and outdated. One of the elevators was out of service and the Jacuzzi was out of service most of the time we were there. The hotel needs to do a lot more before they can sell this as a 4 star.

Response from Sheryl Tsugawa, General Manager at Waikiki Malia

We apologize that the hotel was not up to your expectations, and we appreciate your feedback. The room that you stayed in was our unrenovated apartment style accommodation in the Luana wing. The value of those rooms is that it's larger with separate living, bedroom and kitchenette spaces. Please be assured that your feedback has been taken to heart as we look forward to future property improvements in those rooms. We also apologize for the other issues mentioned. Our goal is to always ensure everything is operating in proper condition but in this case this situation is unfortunately outside of our control. Again, my sincere apologies for the shortcomings and I hope that overall, you had a great time in Hawaii and made wonderful memories to last a lifetime. Mahalo, Sheryl Tsugawa General Manager

The staff at this hotel are excellent! We asked for extra pillows and blankets and received promptly. We had a misunderstanding on the type of room we booked but the night manager resolved our issue and exceeded our expectations in doing so. The front desk is welcoming and professional. For the price point of somewhere around $200/night, depending on room booked, this is definitely a 10 out of 10. The location is good, only a 10 minute walk to the beach.

I definitely have mixed feelings about the Waikiki Malia. My 6th floor Malia Tower $200/night plus tax plus resort fee room was advertised as “Waikiki View,” but it was really a Wall View. The rear wall of DFSGalleria was directly in front of my window, leaving the only view being that of the sky. While I understand the DFS building was built more recently, truthful advertising would have described this as an “Obstructed View” room, priced accordingly. I could also view the infamous single lane two-way ramp to the parking levels and hear car tires screeching day and night to avoid head-on collisions. And the “spacious” lanai, listed on the website was just a small triangle, hardly large enough for one chair. The staff here were lovely and housekeeping was excellent. My room was quiet and comfortable, except for the lack of a desk. There was a small round table which served that purpose, but no electrical outlet within 15 feet. There were four useless outlets outside the bathroom, however. Fortunately I was able to borrow a power strip which was almost long enough. However, unless you have a laptop with phenomenal battery life, my advice is to bring a long extension cord! And while the room as well maintained, I can’t say the same for the property. Two of the four elevators (50%) were out of service, as was one of two washing machines. I asked why the resort fee couldn’t be applied towards the cost of.expediting elevator repairs, and no one seemed to know. So there were long waits and large crowds to contend with, just getting to and from my room. I give this hotel, generously, 4 stars for the staff and room upkeep. But it has the potential to earn a higher rating, and my return business, if only management would take property maintenance more seriously.
