- Poor service with front desk - Did not accommodate for late checkout - Slow to fulfill room service requests (> 1 hour for a luggage stand) - Poor maintenance/cleanliness of rooms and amenities (I.e peeling mirror, peeling paint on walls, stained rugs, ripped umbrellas by poolside, stained sun chairs by poolside) - No daily room cleaning provided although a nightly resort rate was paid and most Honolulu/Hawaii hotels provide this service (this was also not mentioned in booking) - Extremely slow elevators (> 10 min wait per use) - Protest occurred during stay @6AM and no compensation was provided for the disruption - Everything is a surcharge and not included in daily resort fee (I.e parking, sun beds etc..) Overall, for the price point this hotel is NOT worth it. The Modern has been acquired by The Hilton Group and since have fallen short in every respect including; service, cleanliness/maintenance and friendliness of hotel staff.…
I already wrote it enough during this survey. This is second time to visit Modern honolulu because the first visit was satisfied. I will not visit it again. 1. Lots of Ants in a room 2. Poor services 3. Old facilities(soundproof needed/ old fashioned furniture and electronics)
Although it is a little far from Waikiki Beach, you can enjoy the fireworks at the Hilton Resort right next door and it was good to see the Aloha Festival. The staff were very kind and handled the request right away, but the lighting in the room was too dark, so it was a little uncomfortable to stay with all the lights on at dawn or in the evening. And when I checked in late at night, it was difficult to find the entrance to the parking lot and I could only see the stop sign, so I was at a loss where to enter.
Good location: walk to Ala Moana Beach one way or Waikiki the other way. Rooms were large and the beds were comfy. BUT, the hotel itself lacks any island vibe or aloha spirit. It also is in need of major sprucing up from paint to furniture. All food is served in disposable containers with single use plastic cutlery. The cushions on the pool lounges were filthy.
Arrived at the hotel to be greeted by welcoming staff. They are expected to deliver to arriving guests that there is no housekeeping with your stay. I ask “staying 10 days and no one will attend to my room or change sheets?” That is correct. We can deliver to your room fresh sheet, the vacuum cleaner and anything you need but you have to do this yourself. The dining room served on paper plates with plastic cutlery. Room has no kettle and again no cups, cutlery to make tea with. Would discourage anyone considering this hotel. Find a hotel that gives you what you pay for
DO NOT STAY!! I read the reviews after booking and was skeptical but thought we’d give it the benefit of the doubt. Upon check in the staff were all lovely but unfortunately that’s where anything positive about this experience ended. The lobby is old and dated. As soon as we’d arrived after travelling for 24 hours we were pounced on by an employee wanting us to attending “welcome meetings” to bury excursions and pressuring us to do things for which it was really hard to keep saying no! We eventually got to our room after a shakey elevator ride and a walk down the dingiest hallway which was littered with trash as the place doesn’t have daily house keeping only To find it simply wasn’t up to par. The room was grubby, dated, the furniture was broken, the bed literally sagged when you sat on it, I feared to take my shoes off as the carpet was so gross. This combined with the lack of room service/house keeping was enough for us and we swiftly checked straight back out. The saddest part is the staff clearly know it’s not up to standard as they really sympathised with us and we’re extremely helpful in getting us a full refund. This was supposed to be a special occasion for us and after 24 hours of travelling we ended up traipsing the street after another hotel. Genuinely the worse and shortest hotel experience of my life, don’t go.…
Great location! We walked to mall and lots of restaurants. Recommend for breakfast Goofys a 4 min walk and a $10 Uber to Bogarts. For dinner we liked Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood (10 minute walk) We were at Modern for 3 nights and true there was no housekeeping but towels were delivered to our rooms when requested. Very minimalistic design so be prepared to live out of your suitcase. No drawers. There is a microwave which was nice. Pool area was nice and looked over marina. It is dated but not as bad as we thought after reading comments. Good for a couple day stay for the location but I wouldn’t want to be here any longer.
Elevator is super noisy. There was repair/construction one morning without any notice to guest. Even the lobby staffs did not know about the construction that started at 8AM on SUNDAY. No room service for the entire week.
This hotel is in the process of transitioning into a Hilton timeshare, but at least TRY to care about the quality! Our stay was terrible. The hotel is past it’s glory day, as there seems to be no maintenance or upkeep. The common areas are nice, but there’s very little onsite amenities, and nothing really great in walking distance (besides Ala Moana). The room looks nice at first glance, but looking closer it is filthy. Carpets were disgusting, stains on everything possible - even the headboard and lamp shade! Gross. The bed was one of the most uncomfortable beds we’ve ever slept on at a hotel; hard, no comfortable or warm bedding, pillows flat. Our backs were aching and my poor husband ended up freezing on the small couch the second night. We had to ask for better pillows and another blanket - I don’t understand how some hotels feel two sheets are enough for a blanket. Also, no housekeeping service when your staff doesn’t even seem to care about Covid anymore just screams out, corporate greed, and more for the bottom line. Check-in at 4p and check-out at 10a, to shave off two hours from the typical check-in/out times was also laughable. No transfer of any Hilton benefits was also poorly thought out. We need another vacation to offset this terrible experience. My goodness, at least try to serve your guests better. Never again, and maybe never any Hilton Hawaii hotels as well - where they really try to squeeze out as much money as they can per square foot. Pretty disappointing if you ask me.…
From check-in to checkout , everyone was friendly, helpful and always trying to make our stay great. Fantastic beaches and views, the pool and restaurant were both excellent. Will stay here on our next trip.
