We can highly recommend the Hotel Modern Honolulu, especially the rooms with sea views or harbor views. It is located at the beginning of Waikiki's hotel zone, right by the marina, surrounded by several restaurants and just a 3-minute walk from the beautiful beach. The rooms are very clean, spacious and modernly furnished with a refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave and very comfortable beds as well as a comfortable sofa. We had a large room with a balcony overlooking the marina, which we really liked. The bathroom has a good size with a large shower. The staff was very friendly and accommodating in all areas. The spacious pool area with 2 pools, 1 only for adults, invites you to linger with its comfortable large outdoor beds, a pool bar and a restaurant. The modern and open Ala Moana Shopping Center with 350 shops and 160 restaurants is a 10-minute walk away. There is also the Ala Moana Beach Park with a beautiful, gently sloping beach and calm water, which is highly recommended for families with children. Furthermore, the hotel offers a good and safe parking space in the underground car park, in which we were able to park our rental car after daily excursions on Oahu for $ 26 a day. Should this be occupied, there is another parking garage across the street that is connected to the Modern Honolulu by a pedestrian bridge and has acceptable parking fees compared to other parking options in Waikiki. We can highly recommend this modern hotel in a very good location, a few minutes' walk from the very lively center of Waikiki.

We spent a full week at the Modern for our honeymoon, and we were very happy with our stay. We walked in to our room with a nice towel/flower arrangement on our bed to welcome us. We received no other special treatment being on our honeymoon. The room was clean, and the hotel is in a great location. Some of the furniture is outdate and worn, but that didn't effect our stay. We have all the necessary working amenities needed. There is no daily maid, but let's be honest, who cleans their house every day anyways? The staff and pool areas are very nice as well, and the boardwalk was perfect for traveling to the beach and other hotels. We would definitely stay here again!

Its one of the most beautiful places I have stayed at...for so many reasons. the location is awesome, walkable distance to the Waikiki village with so many restaurants, shops paths to walk, the beach is just across the road. The rooms are just so so well designed, white and bright, we had a great view of the beach and lagoon and harbour. MOST of all I loved the service. EVERYONE is helpful, eager to assist for what ever you need, patient, friendly. Special mention to Leilani and Jean Luc, for the warm welcome, for their positive attitude and helpfulness. This made all the difference to our stay here. I THANK the Modern Honolulu and team

The staff members here were very pleasant and helpful. Parking was tricky, and originally, we weren't told about an overflow lot, but that was rectified. The rooms are a little small, but clean. However, I would never get bed frames like these. Each of us hit a foot or ankle as the frames stick out quite a bit from the mattresses and box springs. It's a style, but that was a big negative. The shower was a bit of an issue. There was no soap when we arrived as they use those bottles that are attached to the wall and evidently don't check them between guests. There was no bench or even corner of a tub to put up a leg for shaving, and no safety bar to grab while balancing on one leg with a sharp razor. The water pressure was good, though. A previous occupant had set the alarm clock, which woke us way too early, especially given the time change. Staff should be familiar with the clocks and how they work and routinely check them when they clean the rooms. We never dreamed one would be pre-set. Service wasn't daily. We didn't get clean towels every day, for example. That would be fine if there was enough space to spread out the towels after each use, but there wasn't. They stayed damp between each use and got a little smelly after a couple days. It's not that pleasant to try to dry off with a damp towel, either. The hooks didn't allow the towels to dry completely, unfortunately. The toilet paper roll was awkwardly placed, and the paper rubbed against the wall and side of the toilet when full. Not sure how sanitary that is. I'd book a room away from the elevators. The elevators were noisy. We weren't close to them, and we could still hear them. But I will say that the wait for an elevator was short, and they moved quickly and smoothly. Overall, we liked the staff a great deal but weren't thrilled with the rooms. They were standard and meh.

The Hilton Modern is a timeshare property formerly belonging to Bluegreen Vacation Club acquired by HGV in 2021. It is currently being renovated from standard hotel units to full 1 BR, 1 Bath , Full Kitchen units by connecting two rooms. I was assigned to a spacious 1 BR end unit (#411) with a living room but no kitchen. There was a small microwave and fridge in the living room under the TV but no water or sink other than in the bathroom. We ate out most of the time except for breakfast. ABC and McDonalds were across the street and IHOP was just down the street anyway. The unit was adequate with a great ocean view overlooking the marina and the adjacent Hilton Hawaiian Village lagoon where there are fireworks on Friday nights. A short walk down the ramp from the 2nd floor pool takes you right there. The property is conveniently located right on Ala Moana Blvd a short walk to the shopping center or to the Waikiki beach area. What I like best is the public bus (#20 or #42) stop minutes away on the corner travelling east to Waikiki beach and Diamond Head or west to Pearl Harbor Arizona Memorial, the Aloha stadium swap meet, Ioalani Palace and especially Costco (Hawaiian snacks) all for $1.25 per ride with a Medicare card.

I selected this property as a Hilton diamond member and I was surprised that many of diamond benefits apparently don’t apply at this property. We selected a partial ocean view room with the hope of an upgrade upon arrival that wasn’t entertained by the front desk. The normal $15 daily allowance doesn’t apparently apply as well at this location.
The overall appearance of the room was clean and comfortable and the view was still pretty good. However if you select the partial ocean view rooms they are directly beside the high speed elevators so you will have listen to the whine of the elevators till about midnight. The location is near a few good eating spots and you can watch the surfers in the morning with sailboats. We did 5 days here and went to Kona for a second 5 days at the Hilton Waikoloa Village and it was truly amazing and will be our go to in the future. The bar staff were exceptional and the highlight of our stay.
Also if you are over 6 ft tall duck in the upstairs parking, low hanging pipes every where.

We have been a loyal Hilton Honors member and customer. Out of all of the many hotels we have stayed, we will NEVER stay at Hilton Vacation Club The Modern Honolulu again. We recommend no one does. There are too many other options and this place lured us into staying there because it appears to be renovated but it’s only about 50% there. It needs major improvements to the sound barrier and key security system. For 8 nights, we endured room 1530:
- Having our faces blasted with the air conditioning vent - You can hear the people next door and street noise all night because the rooms and slider isn’t insulated. - The worst bed (felt like a box spring) on a platform that allows for you to trip over due to the overhang. - Poorly designed bathroom with shutter vents (instead of actual walls) that gives zero privacy. - Broken refrigerator - Rusted seating on balcony - "Free water" was expired for 3 weeks - Small pool (there are two but both are overcrowded during holiday season) Constant sound of the elevator despite being almost 5 rooms away - The WORST situation: locked out of room and parking daily due to inadequate magnetic room key functionality. Most annoying was that the front desk employees were trained to blame the customers by saying that we “must have demagnetized them by putting them next to our phones”. After the third night, finally waiting in line hearing other people complain, someone said that they are aware of the “outdated” key system. They said management won’t listen to them and we needed to leave a review.
Here we are. Upon check out, we told them our displeasure and they said, “oh yeah, I know that room and it’s bad”. I’m glad that we spent a $35 per day resort fee and $35 per day self parking so add $70+tax to your per room cost. The only positive thing is the few days that the restaurant was open, we had breakfast and there was the nicest guy at the counter taking our order. He needs to find another employer. This place doesn’t deserve him.

Make sure you know what you are reserving. We expected to have King beds in our room. When we got to our room we had two doubles. My wife and I had to sleep in separate beds the whole week. When we asked the front desk about getting rooms with king beds, we were informed we got what we reserved and that there is no availability. Room carpeting had stains on the floor. They offered no turn down service, not even every three days. Not even if you request it. I heard another guest request just to have the room vacuumed, they had kids and there was sand on the carpet. The front desk representative told him they would not. The customer stated they would leave the room and pleaded with him to vacuum the room, they refused. Ultimately the guest asked if they would leave a vacuum outside the door so he could vacuum his room. They agreed to that. They use paper plates, plastic silverware and plastic cups. The restaurant was not a sit down style. There was no pantry to get snacks or drinks. They had a store to get merchandise but it was closed. If you wanted snacks, like chips ect, you had to go across the street to the ABC store to get them. If you want to get a good breakfast on real plates with silverware and glasses the hotel next door has that, it was really good food and a happy staff. We also had a protest that disturbed our peaceful stay. It happened in the pool area and was very disruptive. My wife and I left the hotel while this happened, I was not going to give them their audience that they wanted. Over all it was rated as a 4 star hotel with 2 star service in my opinion. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room is a nice size. Platform bed has edges sticking out that are hazardous to guests. It seemed as if the hotel has queen size frames in place but uses double mattresses so there is a gap that if you are not paying attention could hurt you. There is an empty mini fridge, ours was not plugged in, and a microwave. Water pressure is strong.
Window does not block any noise from the outside and it feels as if your window is open or that you are sitting outside, you hear cars, people chatting on the street, although we were on a high floor. Make sure to pack ear plugs. Nice view from the window.
Grim hallway. You have to wait a while to get an elevator. Small pool. No self serve laundry, surprising given that these units are supposed to serve longer term stays. We found a laundromat attached to a 7/11 10 minute walk from the hotel.
You don’t get much for the resort fee, there is one activity for adults per day. You can find a McDonalds, ABC store, Vietnamese, Red Lobster and a pizza place around the corner. Hotel’s pool bar offers somewhat overpriced food, happy hour specials and a kids menu.
Front desk staff was not willing to offer early check in or late checkout. If you ask, they will give you 2 water cartons per day, but you have to ask for it, no water in the room.
I think that for the location the rate we got was not bad, but there are other options that offer more amenities, albeit a bit pricier.

It was close to Ala Moana and easy to use the bus. The staff were kind, and when I once had a problem with the facilities and asked for help, a professional fixed it right away. On the contrary, I could tell it was a proper hotel. The price was more reasonable than other hotels, and bottled water was available at the front desk when you showed the paper you received at check-in. Because of the convenient location, I thought that some of the noise outside was unavoidable. I went shopping, returned to the hotel, and then went out again. This time, I didn't join a tour, but instead used the travel agency's bus, so I was able to relax. The room was also cleaned well, which was nice. I thought it would be nice if the shower head was movable. There was a microwave, although I didn't use it.

I stayed at Modern in March and the rate is $35/day. I would suggest parking across the street at ilikia Marina condo. I parked there for 10 days @ $28/ day. You can purchase the ticket via the machine at the parking lot. It offered in/out privileges.
