The good of it: the staff was wonderfully nice and welcoming. Great job. It was a quick and easy 10-minute walk to the beach, and that was nice. The bad of it: the property is worn out...definitely not up to HI Express standards. The carpeting was worn out, the elevators had graffiti scratched into the doors, the room was very small, the shower tiny, no in-room safe, etc. Oh, and the window unit air conditioner was loud. Breakfast was OK...simple pre-cooked eggs, a breakfast meat, and cereal / yogurt / bread options. Would I stay here again or recommend it to a friend? Only if there were no other similarly priced rooms available in Waikiki. Sorry HI Express, you missed the mark on this one.

I truly enjoyed my stay at this property in March 2021. The hotel experience was great and it was walking distance to the beach, malls, restaurants, and parks. It was also very close to the pick-up spots of our tours (literally across the street). Rooms are quiet, and very comfortable. COVID measures are strictly followed throughout the property and everything is super clean. I also want to mention the people that made our stay special. Everyone at this property is super nice and they go above and beyond to make you feel valued. I wish I could remember everyone's names, because they all deserve to be mentioned, but I want to give a shout out to Gladys at the Front Desk; to the best concierges in Honolulu, Matt and Ross, and to the super-friendly and extremely efficient security officer Page, who answered many of my questions and helped me a lot! I would definitely stay here again!

I stayed in July 2022. When I arrived, I found out the parking situation is difficult, it's first come first serve and $45 per night. You can park for $25 across the street. There is also a resort fee of $25 per night, and you are in Hawaii so you really don't even use the things you are paying for much. I never used the game area, the pool, or the internet. The rooms are tiny tiny tiny and the cleaning crew is very late in the day. The breakfast is just ok, skip it and eat some real Hawaiian restaurants. But the thing that made me decide to never stay here again is the staff. One person specifically - a girl named Paige. She was super rude. The first interaction I had with her was I didn't have my room key so I needed another. My friend was with me, who was also a guest at the hotel, and Paige looked at her super rude and then looked at me and and yelled "how many people are in your room?!?" And I said just me. She said "well then, you only need one key then" just uncalled for attitude. That night, the emergency went off in the hotel and everyone was told to go to the lobby. I came down 21 flights of stairs. When all the guests where in the lobby Paige screamed at everyone "listen up! It was a false alarm! Go back to your room!" Just rude again. No apologies for the trouble. I tried to get her attention because the intercom in the stairwell was out, so as we were all coming down we could not understand what was being broadcast. She flat out ignored me. I finally got someone else's attention to alert them off the issue, which could be a major safety issue. Then my 3rd interaction with her was a question about parking. She looked at me and said "you are just now going to tell us that you haven't been parking here?!?" And I had already told them so she didn't even know what she was talking about. Just rude rude rude.

Just do yourself a favor and book it. I thoroughly enjoyed my 10 night stay here. Breakfast was great and it was free! Entire hotel was clean and staff were so friendly. Pool was great and I loved looking at the coy fish every morning. We walked to the beach every day, which was about a 10 minute walk that we loved. Very family hotel. It was just great!

I agree with a lot of the reviews. We stayed 6 days. Staff was friendly and helpful when needed. Elevators are slow, especially in the morning when everyone is going to breakfast. Average breakfast with good staff to restock everything. Rooms aremsmall but updated except for the window a/c. The pool is very small and hot tub was taken over by a large group of people, so we didn't get to enjoy that at all. My room smelled of bug spray when we checked in. I called housekeeping and although they didn't solve the problem, they did try to address it. If I had to do it all over again, I'd spend a little more money and stay closer to the beaches and the shops. This hotel is over 4 long blocks to the beach.

Pros 1. Clean 2. Economical 3. Friendly staff Cons 1. Not close to airport 2. Not close to main attractions (beach, etc…) 3. You may get stuck on a high floor 4. Long elevator wait 5. Mediocre breakfast 6. Building evacuated at 10pm due to pulled fire alarm (see con #3) Overall, I would choose a lower floor or stay at another hotel closer to the attractions and shopping.

Mahalo, for being our guest and for sharing your comments about our hotel. While we are glad you found us at a great value and loved the attentive service from our team, we regret not meeting some of your expectations and the fire alarm going off. Upon our 10:30pm arrival I was told the IHG hotel parking garage was full. They told me to park in another lot that was 4 blocks away. Very inconvenient. The next afternoon I parked 200 feet down from the IHG hotel on the street since the hotel garage sign still said "parking lot full". I merely parallel parked. There was no street sign prohibiting parking there, nor was "No parking" painted on the street or curb. I even asked a residential neighbor there who said "i should be OK' to park there. 2 hours later I returned to find a ticket with 3 violations-"Parking out of Stall", "Parking within 4 feet of driveway" and "blocking the view of those exiting the driveway for parking within 4 feet of Driveway". $105. Immediately I moved my Hertz rental car which was 3.9 feet from the driveway, but I was surprised that then someone pulled into my parking space. I suspected a local condo tenant took my spot since there are condos on the street. The next day that car was still there and no ticket. Awhile later just 200 feet away parked on the same side of the street was a Honolulu cop sitting in her police car. I took a picture to prove what I was seeing. I complained to this parked cop but she said "she had to leave". It's one thing to get a parking ticket, but its another to get penalized repeatedly for the same thing, just so the police dept can build fees. Each infraction was $35, and the last 2 charges are duplicative. The cops had to know I had a Hertz rental once they ran the tag, yet the next day, sitting in her patrol car, that cop saw no need to ticket the local car that took the space I vacated after being ticketed. The hotel was understanding. Based upon my experience, HNL police are out not just to ticket you but also to penalize you as a tourist if you violate their parking rules.

Family of 4, including 2 teenagers for 6 nights. Pleasantly surprised with the variety of breakfast options when staying for 6 nights. Not just the same thing every morning. Plenty of staff to refill and keep breakfast and seating area clean. Food was always fresh and plentiful. 5th floor outdoor activities was a nice bonus! We took advantage of the pool, hot tub, cabanas, mini golf, chess and shuffleboard. There was also cornhole, foosball, and ping pong. Teenagers are hard to keep pleased, so this was nice to keep them busy on our downtime. Liked that there was attached parking garage and we were lucky to get a spot every night. Walking distance to plenty of shopping and dining, and not too far where we were hot and exhausted by the time we got back to hotel. Staff was always friendly and accommodating when we made a request. Pleasantly surprised having housekeeping refresh our room every day. New towels and trash taken every day. After covid we weren’t expecting that. Felt safe and comfortable at this property. The only downside was that the room and bathroom was quite small and tight. AC was great in room and we also had a ceiling fan in the room, which I have never had at any other hotel.

We stayed in this property for close to a week during our vacation. This is easily the biggest Holiday Inn Express I have ever stayed in. It has some good points and some bad points. The good; It is walking distance to several great beaches, restaurants and shopping. It has an activity floor with swimming pool, spa, mini golf course, ping pong etc it even has a koi pond. The staff is really kind. The bad, The hotel room we stayed in was long overdue for a remodel. The room had a window style AC Unit that needed to run 24/7 to achieve anything approaching cool. It does not have a Tstat so it runs constantly either on or off which makes sleep difficult, because it is noisy as well. The room is tiny. I mean where does the luggage go tiny. It is so small you do not have anywhere to sit other than the beds. The bathroom does not have an exhaust fan and is super small. It gets like a rain forest in no time. Your only choice is to open up a window for exhaust, which you regret doing because of the inefficient AC. The comforter for the bed struggles to cover two people and always ends up leaving someone uncovered in the middle of the night. We are diamond members and have stayed in IHG properties all over the world. I would not stay in this one again unless it had a serious remodel.
