We booked and stayed in one of the more expensive wrap around suites. Pictures on their site are so nice. The balconies look big. They aren't. The beach front rooms are noisy when the bands are playing down below. The food was less than adequate. There are no lines for the restaurant dedicated to Hotel Guests. Would not stay there again for free and this was just short of 1K per night including taxes, "resort fees" etc.
Beautiful location. Numerous amenities. But equally importantly this resort is well staffed with lovely people. They made the resort stand out from the rest. We’re already planning on staying here again. Voyager 47 Club is also well worth it at booking.
Stayed here this summer for over a week and overall was pleased. (I’m comparing it to 3 other Honolulu hotels I’ve booked in the past: HHV, Embassy and Hyatt Regency Waikiki.) The location is ideal being right on the beach as well as close to lots of shops and restaurants. Yes it can be noisy but the music stops around 10:30 pm. It was clean and the staff was friendly. I want to acknowledge one bell desk employee (unfortunately I didn’t get his name) who helped my daughter secure a pool floaty when the ABC store wasn’t able to inflate hers due to the pump being replaced. The food from the restaurants were a little pricey but they were good quality and very tasty. Hotel pool is on the smaller side but they did have extra chairs off to the side and the beach has nice sand and we didn’t have trouble finding a spot there either. The elevators were on the slow side and once the keypad didn’t seem to register the correct floor properly so I had to stand there for a couple of minutes trying to get it work and some rude lady cut in front of me while I was using it. I also wish that the hotel offered the use of free beach chairs as well as water refilling stations (huge plus for staying at Hyatt Reg Waikiki). The Outrigger only gives you two small water bottles per room even though we had 2 adults and 2 kids. I hope they recycle because we bought and went through a lot of plastic bottles! The other thing lacking is a place for a larger group to lounge indoors, especially to take a break from the heat. The upper lobby did have some chairs but at times they were taken by guests checking in/out.…
Pros: Location on the beach and near great shopping. Food at Hula’s and Duke’s. Cons: Seriously outdated rooms and public areas. The food in the Voyager 47 Club is horrible compared to the food served in any of the hotel restaurants. Not only is the club food quality bad (think cafeteria style), but within 4 days the menus were repeated several time. It’s also nearly impossible to get any pool chairs unless you wait in line each morning for at least 30 minutes prior to the pool opening. Lastly, the umbrellas on the beach are rented to guests by a 3rd party and current cost $85 per day for an umbrella and two chairs.
Excellent hotel with very good service - nicely located close to the beach. You should definitively choose an ocean view room. We really enjoyed staying here. Staff is very friendly and supportive. Can definitively recommend to book this hotel.
Fabulous hotel. Check in was super easy. We arrived at midnight so it was quiet. Room was clean and kept clean. Housekeeping lady was lovely. Lifts take some getting used to but no drama really. Great access to the beach. One point that did surprise us was one of the concierge ladies name beginning with D did not and would not help us when we had a problem. Sent us away to sort for ourselves using the room phone, Other than that loved every minute of our stay.
Ones one if the most relaxing and wonderful vacations we have ever had. And the Outrigger stay was a big part of it. All the staff were amazing, friendly and very helpful. And I read all the reviews about how confusing the elevator were. But I thought the were quite easy and once you learned how they worked the wait time was minimal compared to other resorts have to wait forever and then they were always full. The hotel was sold out and there were never full. Will definitely be back and will recommend this hotel to all friends and family! Thanks for a wonderful stay!!! Here are a few views from our room and the beach right out the hotel!!!
A once great hotel is now very old and tired. Impossible to dine at your own hotel’s restaurant as guests have zero booking privileges - easier to book a restaurant in French Riviera. WIFI poor, and elevators could be the worst in history. Time to look elsewhere in Honolulu.
Hotel is dated and that’s not the main issue. The hotel is getting dated like most of the reviews state but they are at least clean. Seems like the staff are overwhelmed with too many customers and just not enough hotel staff. I know to be “patient” its Hawaii… but this was on a whole nother level. I’ve also stayed here about 20 years ago at it was a much better experience. It’s a bummer because I want to go back again, but my husband says No, he claims there are too many more beach front hotels on Waikiki.
This was our first time staying in Waikiki and we were celebrating our 30Th wedding anniversary. Everyone at the Outrigger was incredibly nice and accommodating. Our room on the 15th floor was not brand new but was extremely well kept and clean. We were in a club room which meant that we had access to the Voyager club for breakfast in the mornings and drinks and food in the late afternoons. This proved to be both economical and a great way to meet other guests. The famous Duke’s restaurant is also in the hotel and had great food, a lively bar and live music every evening right on the beach. We couldn’t have asked for a better location or stay and we loved every minute of our time at the Outrigger. Highly recommend.
