We've always kind of wondered about the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort (not a brand name we recognized, so we were hesitant to stay here) - we have been here for food and drinks since we started visiting the area, but only just now got around to biting the bullet and trying it out as a place to stay.
Wow, are we glad that we did. Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort had none of the issues of the other hotels - it wasn't inexpensive (of course; look where it's located), but it hit the mark for us. Great and comfy space in our ocean-view balcony room - not fancy or updated, but not dated or creepy. Smashing housekeeping service (bell desk and front desk folks were great, too) with lightning-fast room cleanings and not a thing less than perfect ever. Great amenities Great location. The bed was a comfortably firm foundation BUT had a thick, soft pillowtopper that wasn't great for my back; also, the room could have used more bedding (a supplemental comforter) in this cooler season. No robes or slippers were provided.
We're not talking about anything like a fancy place in Vegas with multiple marble bathrooms, but the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort gave us our best stay in all of our trips to Waikiki. (And I understand they're planning an update in 2025.) We plan to return.
Enjoy your stay!
I’ve chosen it because of its location and because of positive feedback given by friends.
From the beginning of my stay (22 nights) I felt very welcome and the hotel team is SUPER friendly and has this special “Aloha spirit”.
Yes, the hotel is pretty old and even the rooms are not state of the art, but believe it or not, I liked my room very much, because the size (ocean view room, with King size bed) was perfect for me and my long term stay.
Beside the old fashioned interior the room was kept VERY clean and the bathroom was big enough, even with kind of an open wardrobe and space for 3 suitcases.
The Lanai (Hawaiian name for balcony) was small, but furnished with one table and two comfortable chairs.
Laying in bed with closed (!) balcony slide door you can hear the heavy ocean waves which I really enjoyed it, because it made me sleeping and dreaming heavenly!
The bed at Outrigger Waikiki Beach was extremely comfortable, covered with white fine cotton linen and 4 fluffy pillows.
Cleaning was done daily and the whole house keeping team did every day a phenomenal job. High standard cleaning and service, including replacing bottles of water and coffee pads. Loved it!!
Extra benefit: the hotel has Dukes downstairs and this restaurant chain is a “must place to visit” when you’re on O’ahu or in Maui. The food and the drinks are very delightful and the famous dessert “Hula Pie” you must try and share (not possible for one person 😉)!
The hotel has front row beach access, but complementary deck chairs are only available at the pool, which is always kept clean of the Outrigger pool attendants (very friendly guys and long term employees).
In general I give 5 stars because of the PRIME Waikiki location and the staff made my stay just perfect, even knowing the hardware of the hotel needs to be refurbished. But as the rooms kept very clean and the furniture has this special Polynesian touch, I still give my highest ranking!
Mahalo Outrigger Waikiki Beach team and see you soon again!
If you want to stay on Waikiki, the Outrigger seems to have it all. We walked through several neighboring properties and were glad we chose Outrigger Beach. We were pleased with the partial view and even with two teens and two adults, we had room to unpack and make ourselves at home in the room.
Voyager 47 benefits are worth it - breakfast had great variety and so many hot options to fill my always hungry teenage son. Coffee was good and the view during meals was beautiful. We took advantage of the evening apps & drinks as well.
Duke’s was a special treat we enjoyed on our last night. Their happy hour was fun, live music and drink specials.
We utilized the Waikiki shuttle to get to Diamond Head - convenient! And the concierge helped us with city bus to snorkeling, booking our USS Arizona/city tour and even giving us some tips for our days with a rental car.
Truly loved everything about our stay from the warm welcome, fireworks on New Years Eve, white powdery sand at the beach and the hustling nightlife of a beautiful shopping district just outside the hotel’s doors. Well done!
