I knew right away I made the right choice in hotels. As I write this from Aulani, I find myself wishing I was back at The Royal Hawaiian hotel. The smell all throughout the lobby was amazing. I believe it was plumeria and the smell was heavenly! I stayed in a king, historic wing, garden view which overlooked the pool area with a partial ocean view actually. The bed was so comfortable- i meant to check uf it was a heavenly bed since it is a Marriott brand hotel like the Westin. The room itself was big enough although, yes, the bathroom is small. I loved the location. I loved the beach. I loved the chairs scattered throughout. My only complaint was noise at night from Duke’s (I assume it was Dukes since my wing faced it). I was tired enough that it didn’t matter but it you’re a light sleeper it could be an issue. I really hope I get back there soon.

Hotel's Favorite
This is our family’s favourite hotel resort of all time. A truly beautiful hotel with such character and lush grounds. The hotel staff were exceptional, especially Elaine from Surf Lanai. She was such a great example of excellence in customer service and always proactive in our needs. The onsite bakery was so yummy for light breakfasts or snacks. The resort activities includes were also a lot of fun, from lei making to kukui bracelet making (which was a nice respite from the sun when needed). The toiletries were also high quality from Malie, just gorgeous! RH guests also get access to Sheratons pools which includes a water slide that was a nice addition to beach time. The beach was nicely shallow which allowed for lots of safe water play and sun bathing. Highly recommend!

This was our 3rd stay at the Royal Hawaiian. This hotel opened in 1927 and now celebrating their 95th year! We loved the atmosphere of this special place. We stayed in tan Ocean view historic room which was well appointed and spacious. A fun fact, each of the doors to the rooms are handcrafted and no two are the same. We discovered a mini museum on the lower level where the spa and gym are located. There are a multitude of items, photos, news articles from the years past. It was very very interesting and there is a tour several times a week by an employee who I believe has been with the resort for 50+ years! Service was great, no complaints given some prior reviews I have read. Housekeeping went out of their way and if we saw them they always asked if we needed anything additional. Bellman were readily available. We had breakfast included with our package so we ate at Surf Lanai each morning. Love the pink pancakes!! I do wish they would offer a buffet again but everything was delicious. Visited the Mai Tai bar several times for both dinner and drinks…..very lively and busy but the longest we waited was maybe 10 minutes for a table. I note in prior reviews that people complained about having to pay for beach chairs and umbrellas. It’s there on the hotel website with links leading you to set up a rental. Yes we too were not happy with the $60 fee for the day, but the beach gets very crowded. If you are from the east coast, NY/NJ region, you know how crowded beaches get at home-same thing here. We were glad to have our own chairs and space set back from the crowds. We booked about 60 days out. Do not wait until you are there as it gets filled up. You can choose where you want to sit on the booking page. There are other options available and listed on the hotel website. Hotel grounds are as lovely as ever and didn’t see any worn/torn/stained furniture. If anything we saw employees always making sure the areas were maintained. I would love to see what the resort will be doing to celebrate 100 years!!

First time back since 2019 and it’s gone downhill. There are cheaper places with just as good a location. It used to do the little things well but all that is gone. Just seems shabby. Our furniture had rips. Place seemed kind of sad. Not sure if this is just neglect from Marriott

What an incredible place to relax and enjoy a delicious tropical breakfast! We ordered, guava juice (fresh), the pink pancakes, eggs Benedict, an omelette, coffee & a smoothie! All delicious!! You’ll love it here! With sweeping views of Waikiki and the best service, you’ll be sure to enjoy that Aloha feeling. Janice was the very best part of our experience this morning! What a sweet lady full of kindness. Thank you, Royal Hawaiian staff and especially our dear friend, Janice! You made it unforgettable! Five stars! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had a big family trip in Oahu and stayed at the Royal Hawaiian last year for the first time. The experience was amazing and memorable that we decided to stay here again this year! The staff is always so friendly, courteous, and personable. The valet service team is amazing and it’s wonderful to be able to see familiar faces! Nigel, at the concierge, really made our experience truly one of a kind and his kindness and charm with our little toddler was something we will never forget. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts! Royal Hawaiian is truly our home away from home. Mahalo and hope to see everyone again next year!

Upon arriving at The Royal Hawaiian you have a sense of the "True Hawaiian Aloha Spirit" The entry is so inviting. The lush green tropical grounds are relaxing and beautiful. Walking down the grand hall and seeing Waikiki Beach right in your backyard is breathtaking. We had an Ocean Front Deluxe Room, which provided a beautiful view of the beach, ocean, and Diamond Head. The special touches offered at this resort do not go unnoticed. Chocolates delivered to the room, fresh baked goods, A fabulous pink cake for my birthday....Special thanks to MIA, the Manager. We had breakfast each morning at Surf Lanai. Gorgeous setting and the food was fantastic! The BEST Server is Janice!! She was outstanding!! The Mai Tai Bar was so much fun! Always crowded and a fun place to have a drink and people watch. This property offers the BEST location in Waikiki! It is close to everything, all while be a LUXURY Hotel. Loved all the amenities! We rented our beach chairs in advance through the RH website and this was very convenient. Loved the Gift Shop and brought home several Royal Hawaiian logo items to remind me of our great visit! Overall, such a wonderful time! Had a FABULOUS BIRTHDAY TRIP!! We will definitely be back! Special thanks to MIA for making us feel so special!! Mahalo!

Hospitality: We had a baby and Risa and Mia did a fabulous job in co-ordinating with the kitchen for breakfast to ensure a seamless experience every morning at breakfast where the food was prepared just right by the Chef for the baby without fail, on-dot, everyday. The servers at breakfast and Mai-Tai are fantastic. Food: Breakfast entrees are excellent and plenty of vegetarian options. The BBQ Cauliflower and Truffle Fries at Mai Tai are fantastic. The Vics Mai Tai is very well made. Ethics: It is such a nice feeling when one stays at a Marriott resort and every point is accurately credited into your account (which is not always the case at some Marriott resorts). At the Royal Hawaiian, all incidentals were accurately accounted for and given the appropriate points credit posting in the account. This speaks volumes about the ethics of the hotel management and their commitment to delivering a positive experience to guests. Housekeeping: Excellent housekeeping with turndown service in the evening which was very welcome. Suite Choice for SNAs: Highly appreciate that the Historic Garden Suite is an available option to select in the SNA pool. Very useful option for families and was a strong influencer in our decision to stay here. Areas of Development Hospitality: When we checked-in, the receptionist asked whether we have any requirements so we mentioned the baby food (which was any vegetable mashed up and the receptionist said we don't know whether we can do that due to COVID. The next day when we went for breakfast, and told the restaurant hostess we had put in a request, the hostess once again said without checking that we don't know if we can do that due to COVID. Fortunately, as I said above Risa and Mia had everything taken care of and the chef too had it ready. For a Luxury Collection resort, I don't expect a default reply to be, "No, its COVID" at the reception and breakfast entry especially when the reason doesn;t make sense for the request being asked. Breakfast: It was sad to see there is an up-charge for a breakfast entree for Marriott Elites. For the prices being charged by the Luxury Collection resort, you wouldn't expect this. It didn't effect us because we were on a Marriott Stars rate that included a full breakfast. Even despite that, if one wanted toast, it was an extra charge (despite a full breakfast being included in the Stars rate).

This is my second summer in a row visiting Oahu, Hawaii and I can never return home until I have spent at least three days at the Royal Hawaiian.  I am guilty of simply falling in love with this hotel and the amazing staff that will go the mile to make you feel at home.  Upon arrival the greeting is so warm and filled with the Aloha spirit. Thanks Wey for such a beautiful welcome when my son and I arrived.  My son was celebrating his 11th birthday and we loved our welcome and the beautiful Kukui Nut Lei that we received.  The Kukui Nut Leis are wonderful to take home and we still have ours from last year. Wey was such an amazing man during our stay and I loved how he always welcomed us back to the hotel, he knew my name, and he always smiled.  Wey you are amazing and your personality made our stay so lovely.  Michael checked us in upon arrival and he was so professional, timely, and caring.  Even though we arrived early and our room was not yet ready, he explained everything regarding the hotel, provided us with a welcome gift, and because we were exhausted, provided a key to the lounge for us to wait until our room was ready.  Michael, you are an exceptional employee of The Royal Hawaiian!  The lounge was so quiet and comfortable and it provided a place for us to relax and for me to charge my phone.  Once our room was ready we made our way to it and my son was surprised to find a special birthday plate of desserts.  They were absolutely delicious and again the personalized touch is what separates The Royal Hawaiian from other hotels.  Randall brought our bags to the room and he was absolutely the best.  He just didn’t drop off our bags but took a moment to personalize.  He told us more about the hotel and was even courteous enough to get us some ice. Randall you went above and beyond and your personalization made my stay at The Royal Hawaiian worth the money.  Mahalo Randall.  Finally, Annie, our housekeeper, was such a humble and kind woman.  She provided us with everything we needed and more.  Thanks Annie for showing us what the Aloha Spirit looks like in real time.  I absolutely love the employees that I met at The Royal Hawaiian because they represent the heart and soul of the hotel.  In addition, I love the historic look of the hotel, the beautiful flowers are absolutely my favorite, the smell of the hotel upon entering is simply not to be forgotten, the comfortable beds are unforgettable, and the location on Waikiki Beach is stellar.  I must admit that no stay on Oahu, Hawaii is complete without spending at least two nights at the Royal Hawaiian.  This hotel for me is unforgettable and we cannot wait to return in February 2024 for our third visit.  You have to be a remarkable hotel when you can get an eleven year old child to talk about The Royal Hawaiian after just two visits.  Mahalo for everything!  Absolutely the best part of our 2022 visit.

I stayed here for 1 night, and enjoyed it. I had a room in the "historic" wing, none of those rooms have a balcony but some do have a beachside view. The room was actually decently large with nice furnishings. I liked the bathroom layout, with the exception of the showerhead which seems a little cheap for a higher end property. Location is fabulous right on the beach, with a lot of restaurants and shopping adjacent the property. The pool area is small, but you do have access to a bigger one at the Sheraton next door, quite frankly not sure why you want to come to a beach like this and hangout in the pool. Like all properties in the tropics, unless freshly built it's going to have a run down appearance after a year or so and this was no difference. Waikiki is an expensive place to vacation, so given the Luxury and History of the hotel I expected it to be expensive going in ($50pp breakfast as an example), but it's right on a good spot at the beach. Would I stay here again, absolutely but with the understanding that I'm going to pay through the nose to do so and it's probably more of a special couples space and I'd stay at the Sheraton next door or Hilton Hawaiian village if I had the whole family.
