We stayed at the Newport Marriott for a marriage retreat back in February 2020. The hotel is beautiful! As you pull up, there is valet parking offered or you can try and find on-street parking. The large glass doors and open entrance way lead to the front desk on the left. The decor is AMAZING to say the least. It is set up to look like a cruise ship and flows well with the nautical decor of ropes, blue hues, artwork, and fountains. It is so beautiful to look at. My favorite was the little seating area near the breakfast area. It has these little hanging chair swings that you can enjoy a nice drink or a coffee. The hotel offered the most delicious assortment of cookies and the conference rooms were large, comfortable, and roomy. We had a room on the 4th floor. We had a view over looking the city with a floor to ceiling glass window. The bed was clean and comfortable. We didn't have a chance to use the pool or the gym as we were quite busy. The all glass elevator was pretty when going to or from our room. The location of this hotel is just perfect and one can easily access restaurants, bars, and shopping by foot. Right outside the hotel is the harbor with docks and walking path. We were able to see the most stunning sunset. There are on-site restaurants at the hotel and they do serve Starbucks coffee in the lobby. We went to the nearby restaurants to just get some fresh air and check out some of the local shops. Thank you Marriott for a wonderful stay.

At the very last minute we were upgraded to a suite which made this stay perfect while I worked in one room and my college aged girl did her remote studies in the other room.

The suite was wonderful, nicely furnished with an amazing view and a fantastic bed! The living room was also very comfortable.

We visited Skiff twice. The bartender took care of us outdoors each time. He was pleasant, efficient and the food was very good!

This Marriott property offers a $25 per person breakfast credit (up to $50 per day) for Platinum and higher statuses. We chose to enjoy the view from our room with room service. It looks a little different during the Covid era with everything packed in disposable containers, but again, the food was delicious.

The suite upgrade really made our stay since it was work/school combo. Each and every staff member we encountered was extremely pleasant and helpful from the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out.

This “staycation” was just what we needed! A change of scenery! I might also add the hotel was spotless! There are hand stations with hand sanitizer everywhere. We saw several people cleaning high traffic/touch areas during our brief two night stay.

I would highly recommend this hotel. We felt all proper Covid precautions were taken. We felt very safe. Everyone wore masks as well.

It’s too bad the suite upgrades are not known until the day of checkin. We would be back at least once a month this winter if we knew the work/school combo would work for us.

Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Check in was seamless with the front desk recognizing my Marriott status. It was a holiday weekend and we were able to park in the garage for no charge.

We booked an atrium room and the balcony was perfect for coffee or a cocktail. The room was spotless, but we still ran through our own Clorox wipe down. We declined room service, but you could request it. You could pick up fresh towels or bed linens at the desk or have them delivered. Room was a good size with a full sitting area and coffee table.

We were able to use the pool and gym after filling out the contract tracing information. We never found anyone else in the gym. The pool always had a few people, but the real gem was to sit outside of the pool and look into the Newport harbor.

The hotel was doing the best it could with the current and ever changing COVID-19 restrictions. Some guests didn’t wear masks and the enforcement from hotel staff varied greatly. There was also a 2 person limit of non-related guests in the elevators, so that can cause lines at times.

Only negative was at times staffing was overwhelmed. On checkout there was one front desk associate, the system was down and she was just turning everyone away saying I can’t do anything about it. Thankfully it came up shortly and we were able to do a proper check-out.

One gem is that across the street in a plaza is liberty donuts, that is perfect for breakfast. They not only have donuts, but breakfast sandwiches, bagels, etc.

Bottom line I would stay here again when traveling to Newport, price was right, location great (never had to use our car during our stay), and staff was making the best of it the current restrictions.

The Newport Marriott is clean, modern, busy and close to it all with friendly staff from the front desk to the restaurant to Housekeeping. From the hotel you are close to the water to enjoy beautiful sunsets and close to the center of town from Broadway to Thames is all within a ten minute leisurely walk. There were a couple of minor complaints The one unfortunate aspect was that we had originally booked a room on the 7th (highest) floor but traded down to the fourth floor for a "better view"; unfortunately, it wasn't as we overlooked a parking lot and parking deck though if one looked to the extreme left you could see the bridge. The room was also the congregating point for Housekeeping in the mornings; we heard every word. Nevertheless, I would definitely stay there again - and should mention that during the summer it is conveniently located across the street from the Newport Gulls stadium - a collegiate developmental league. The hotel was child friendly, family friendly and adult friendly as well.

Booked four nights of our Honeymoon here. The location is great and just a quick walk to restaurants, nightlife and touristy stuff. We had checked out and moved to another hotel near the beach, due to major operations at the second hotel (not the Marriott), we re-booked the Marriott for a fifth night and when we returned worked with Freddie and Laura from the Front Desk to further extend our stay two additional nights.

Though that they are not cleaning rooms during your stay, they are quick to provide towels, soup, etc... upon request. If you leave your trash or towels in the hall they are quickly picked up. We also saw housekeeping cleaning door handles and elevator buttons through-out our stay and hand sanitizer was readily available. This was our first trip since COVID (previously avid travelers) and we really appreciated the processes this hotel had in place to make sure feel safe.

Hotel charges $38/night for Valet parking, but there is a public lot that is $24.50/night next door. We parked in the lot.

Would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Long time Marriott customer. Can’t believe this is a Marriott. Asked for water view room. On arrival no water view but given view of “Newport Bridge”. Only view I had was the roof. When I asked the desk about it he told me “It would be the bridge but the roof is in the way”. As platinum member given 2 breakfast coupons. Reservations only but no reservations to be had. 2nd day I stopped at restaurant and they had 1reservation at 830am the next day outside. On arrival the rude manager told me I should have asked for outside. I told him I asked him the previous day. The waitress arrived 15 minutes later! Food arrived 40 minutes after that. She was absolutely unhappy taking our order, not sure why. Only nice person was Maria who cleared the table. Hand sanitizers always empty and masks didn’t seem to be enforced. The spa was cold and unwelcoming and we were told to sit on the bench across the street until our turn. Just didn’t have the quality of staff or management offered at other Marriotts and also offered by competitive hotels in Newport.

Dear declan072818, Thank you for taking the time to share your candid feedback from your most recent stay at the Newport Marriott. Your commitment as a longtime Marriott Bonvoy member is very important to us and I apologize if you did not feel like a valued elite member. Unfortunately due to many new Rhode Island restrictions, the hotel restaurants are only accepting reservations through Open Table. I am deeply sorry that your experience with our team did not exceed your expectations and I will address your concerns immediately. Thank you again for loyalty to Marriott and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

The Newport Marriott is well located on the water and easy to find at the north end of Americas Cup Avenue. Check in was quick and easy but we were surprised by the lack of services. No daily housekeeping for a three night stay is unacceptable now that Covid protocols have been largely lifted. Yes, we could call for towels or anything else but we shouldn’t have to. Otherwise, our stay was enjoyable with friendly staff. Parking is valet only ($38/day) but quick in and out so not much of an inconvenience. Hotel is walking distance to much of downtown Newport so you’ll only need your car to get to the Bellevue mansions or elsewhere such as Ocean Drive.

Although we enjoyed our mini vacation, I was really pressed to even give this stay four out of five, thinking three was probably more appropriate. The front desk did say that they still need to super clean the rooms due to Covid but also admitted to (no surprise) housekeeping staffing issues. That’s the hotel’s problem but should not be allowed to so seriously impact guests. How about housekeeping every other day for three night or longer stays? (Speaking of super cleaning, the inside of our glass shower door looked as of it had not been cleaned before our arrival.)My wife and I would stay here again but service has to improve.

Great location for walking and an easy short drive for hiking The Cliffs or going to the nearby beaches.

I arrived on a Thursday and left Sunday. Check in was easy and welcoming. There’s valet parking and worth the $38 a day fee. They were slammed with guests but still did a good job and the staff was patient and pleasant. They gave me a printed letter on COVID policy with updates on how to get what I needed and instructions to ask for maid service if I wanted it. They don’t provide it otherwise.

Despite being busy the elevators (three) were quick. Most guests weren’t wearing masks but people were thoughtful and asked if you minded if they got on the elevator with you. There were weddings all weekend, but it made a nice atmosphere and didn’t slow anything down.

My room was 717 and overlooked the atrium with a nice-sized balcony. The room was pleasant, decor, comfort, all nice. There aren’t any toiletries but there are dispensers in the shower for shampoo/conditioner/soap. You can call for anything else you need. I asked for a shower cap.

I didn’t bother requesting maid service but missed it. After a few days my room got sad looking. My room had two queen beds and the space walking around them to the balcony was tight but not terrible. There’s a small fridge that worked well. The room also had a small coffee maker but there were no cups or glasses. I requested them on the second day. You can get ice per usual and my room had an ice bucket in it.

I never ordered room service or ate in the hotel so I can’t weigh in on those amenities. In general the restaurants in the area were overwhelmed and understaffed (or staffed with new people in training). Both take-out and food trucks were better choices. It allowed me to get tea or food in a reasonable timeframe and there was always somewhere to sit and watch the water or boats.

I’d recommend this hotel, and without a doubt stay again. Hopefully daily maid service will return but I wonder if it’s a thing of the past.

Just finishing a four night stay at the hotel. The rate was $500.00 per night for the weekdays (more for weekends). Disappointed with the overall stay at this hotel. Here is a few highlights:

Pros
1. Newport Rhode Island is beautiful
2. The Newport Marriott is in an excellent location near town and not too far from the mansions and cliff walks.

Cons
1. No room cleaning (including no addition of clean towels, coffee, creamer, soap....). They said it was to keep us safe because of COVID, but they don't even tell you about the lack of room. They said it was in our welcome note, but we read it over and it wasn't in there. No information on check in. Each time you need something you got to ask at the desk. It sometimes takes 30 minutes just to score a clean towel or coffee pod so plan ahead.
2. Room becomes overrun with garbage and dirty towels. Just because they supplied clean towels does not mean anyone picks up the dirty ones (and they do not pick them up).
3. If you want to park on the premises, it is $34.00 a night (after paying $500.00 a night for the room.)
4. There are no amenities of an expensive hotel. With the room rate, hotels normally supply real glassware (such as wine glasses and water glasses). Here you get plastic. The shampoo and soap in the shower is in a squeeze bottle attached to the wall. There is no lotion supplied for your skin. I also ran out of other items such as cotton balls (gave us one pack). There are no bathrobes. Normally not a necessity but with the price paid I kind of expected it.
5. The room is like a typical Holiday Inn room. I don't mind that type of room but charge the correct price for that room. There is no balcony. I can see the water but it would be nice to sit out and watch the waves.
6. No discount given for the lack of room cleaning. If the hotel is saving money by not cleaning my room, pass that along to the customer.

So, my suggestion is look around before you book this hotel. Newport is well worth the visit. The Newport Marriott is not worth booking.

The Newport Marriott is a beautiful hotel conveniently located within walking distance of numerous restaurants, bars, shops, wharf, ferry stop and many outdoor activities.

When we arrived, check-in was quick and easy. The staff was very professional and welcoming. Our room was clean and spacious and the bathroom was spotless. The gym had a vast selection of equipment and the indoor pool was a great place to unwind at the end of the day.

Amidst Covid, the hotel is immaculately clean. Hand sanitizing stations were easily available and signs for social distancing and mask requirement were posted in public areas. We felt safe throughout our 3-night stay.
