In case you are not aware, (I was not) because of an incident in the '80's, all hotel rooms in Utah are required to have windows that do not open. I did not know this and I will be checking windows every time I arrive at a hotel in the future. I discovered my last morning that my window was indeed unlocked and there was a pizza box on the outside on the windowsill indicating someone had been in my room. Kade, at the front desk, was shocked and removed most of one night off of my bill and they will be checking the window (and hopefully all in the hotel).
Despite this event, I loved the hotel enough that I will be staying there again next year.
The Peery is located in downtown Salt Lake City, within walking distance of many restaurants. Normally, you have to park in a public parking lot and pay a daily fee, but due to Covid, downtown Salt Lake City was offering free parking. We were able to park right in front of the hotel for free for the duration of our stay.
The staff member at the front desk was wearing a mask. Masks were also required of anyone walking into the hotel, which was fantastic. Salt Lake CIty was quite strict about mask usage, which I appreciated.
Our room was small-ish, but that's to be expected in a historic hotel. The toiletries in the bathroom were fantastic. The bed was very comfortable and everything looked extremely clean. The hotel itself was very quiet. We didn't hear a lot of street noise, either. The only downfall was the onsite restaurant was closed and did not offer room service. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area, however.
Overall, a great stay at The Peery. We will definitely be back.
However, if you’re still read it, let me say, that if you really like old things, and strange eclectic things, then this hotel is for you. You’ll love it. And you’ll look past the uncomfortable beds tiny bedrooms and oddness.
There were not "Privacy Please" door hangers available in the room, we had to tell the cleaners at least three times that we did not need service and were even walked in on while in bed after doing so. The morning of check-out, we again had at least three door knocks and one attempted entering all before check-out time at 12:00pm.
For the price that we paid for this room, I'm very disappointed in the service. We will likely not return.
Super tiny rooms … no hotel parking.. air conditioner so loud all night woke me up every time it came on… so sparse for the price … come on .. vanilla creamer won’t break the bank!!!!
There was an issue with the thermostat in the room and the windows were painted shut, but overall it was great. The location can't be beat.
The hotel is in a historic building and it has a nice ambiance. My room was rather on the small side, with a small bathroom as well, but it was clean and had the basic amenities I'd expect of a Hilton. One odd design quirk is the placement of the sink in the main room instead of in the bathroom.
Oddly, there were no restaurants on site. As a Diamond member, I got a breakfast voucher for the Eggsburgh restaurant next door, a place that was usually completely full in the mornings. But they had a lot of options on the menu and the food was mostly good.
There's also a Mexican bar/restaurant, accessible from the lobby, called Tora Rosa but it seemed to be closed for the most part during the stay, and I'm not entirely sure if it was part of the hotel. In the same building as the hotel, there is a very nice steak restaurant as well, but it's not associated with the hotel, so you can't charge the pricey dinner to your room.
I did not receive housekeeping during my stay, which was a bit odd, and apparently it was only available upon request.
The Peery is located centrally in Salt Lake City, and it was easy to catch the light rail train to the airport for just $2.50 from nearby Gallivan Plaza.
The hotel is not fancy by any means, but it was a nice no-frills stay overall.
I had a morning flight and had no hot water in the room upon waking up. I took a very quick cold shower, and I was unable to shave. I went to the front desk to check out and informed them that there was no hot water. At the same time a guest from another room came down complaining of the same lack of hot water.
I asked the clerk if I would be expected to pay the full rate as a functioning shower is a basic feature of a hotel room. She said she would check with the manager. She came back and told me my only option would be to wait for the hot water to be fixed. I was unable to do this as I had a flight to catch. I asked to speak with the manager and was told that he was “unavailable to speak with me.” At this point the clerk could not even look me in the eye and I left incredulous at how the situation was handled.
I am a Hilton diamond member and stay approximately 75 nights in hotels per year. I rarely complain, and almost never leave reviews. (Positive or negative). This situation, where I was basically told to “get over it.” was the last straw.
Other than the lack of hot water and the absolute failure with service recovery, the stay was unremarkable.
