The unfortunate thing was that during my visit they were unable to provide any air conditioning as their system was still set for winter. After returning to my room on the second day and finding it at 85 degrees I had to discuss options with the desk. They were very understanding and were able to move me to a cooler room that I was able to deal with after buying a fan from the local Walmart. I did note that the toilet paper holder was askew and partially pulled from the wall. The metal towel holder had at one time been ripped from the wall and reinstalled without any concern for the resulting sharp edges from the resulting damage. My smoke detector was not mounted to the ceiling but instead resided on the shelf inside the closet. For me these were all little things, excepting for the air conditioning, and inconveniences I could handle. If my wife had been with me the place would not have worked and I felt for those guys that were checking in with their female partners. This is basically one of those places where traveling construction crews utilize (at least during my stay it was). The staff is friendly, accommodating and left working with what they have do deal with the best they can. I almost got what I expected when booking this chain, however I have had excellent past stays at other Comfort Inn locations. Salt Lake City is very easy to maneuver and knowing that now, I would not hesitate to look for a better stay a little further from the central city. Would I stay again? Only by myself and on a tight budget. It was not terrible, unsafe, or dirty and did what I needed - just don't expect too much with the price.
When we talked to the front desk the next morning, they were very accommodating with giving us a discount off our room. Rooms are large, but basic, and could use an update. However, it was the most comfortable hotel bed that we have slept in this past year, and we have traveled a good deal.
I should have my head examined for not checking better before booking.
It is a run-down, very old, and cranky hotel. Everything should have been updated 15 years ago, from the carpets that cover it, to the beds that you need a ladder to climb on, the shower gets clogged after 2 drops of water, and the list goes on and on.
But the worst is that for the 4 nights we were there - not even once was the room cleaned or the sheets/towels were replaced, even after we asked The answer we got was that they are understaffed (OK, if you're understaffed why are you charging more than $200 per night?).
Needless to say, I would never stay at this hotel again!
I was shocked at the condition of the room 156 we were given, no deadbolt at all on an exterior facing room and the door has clearly been kicked in and doesn’t even shut all the way. I understood I chose an exterior room but I incorrectly assumed I still would get a clean and safe room. The closet door has holes and my toddler almost got splinters. The room reeked of cigarettes so bad! Just was disgusting. I’m so glad I switched rooms.
As a single female traveling with my 2 year old it was really hard to switch all my luggage by myself. The guy at the front desk was not helpful and didn’t offer me a new room at first but I told him, hey I will take a double queen and then he said he had one. He NEVER wore a mask which I understand is/was current utah regulations at the time, but come on, this is an international destination near an international airport and your employees don’t wear masks??! Hello did you see the new CDC guidelines. As a company it’s an easy fix right there. The new room was super clean but also had a broken drawer handle and broken window and hole in the closet door too. But at this point I was exhausted and needed to feed my child dinner and could not keep switching rooms so we stayed. I’ve stayed at other comfort inns and never had such an experience. Please do not rent rooms to people without working deadbolt doors, especially exterior facing. I’m sure this is a violation of codes. I’m not an overly picky or demanding traveler and have traveled internationally in many countries and all over the world and know what is ok and what’s not. This was horrible.
