Hyatt Place Salt Lake City/Downtown/The Gateway receives accolades for its central location, which guests find convenient for downtown exploration and nearby skiing ventures, despite some reports of street noise. The staff's friendliness and professionalism contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, complemented by a cozy lobby fireplace.
While the spacious and clean rooms with comfortable beds are a highlight, there are suggestions that some areas could benefit from updating. The complimentary breakfast and amenities are generally appreciated, though improvements in pool and breakfast quality could enhance the overall value for guests.

Detailed Reviews
My wife and I were passing through SLC on a road trip. We were really impressed with the dedication of the team to COVID-19 protocol. We were greeted at the front desk from behind a plexi-glass shield by a mask-wearing staff member who put on new rubber gloves to handle my ID/card. We went directly to our rooms and the next day were encouraged to toss our used room keys into a bucket of disinfectant on our way out the door.
We were not particularly anxious about our stay and yet the steps taken by the staff made us feel totally at ease.

+1
This Hyatt Place is located in central downtown SLC. It has easy access and free parking for guests. Some of the rooms have upgraded the older bathtubs for more modern showers. The TV’s are still of older vintage.
The staff is friendly, courteous and in our case, has been extremely accommodating to our needs. I must highlight the Manager, the Front Desk (Robbie) as well as Gladys in Housekeeping, who have all been awesome.
Breakfast is standard Hyatt Place Covid style, as seen in the pictures. Gone are the waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausages, Almond Milk, eggs any style, etc. that Hyatt Place always prepared in their kitchen. No doubt, revenue is saved.
If customers at restaurants can have food served that is made in the kitchen, why then couldn’t Hyatt Place serve their guests some breakfast plates from their kitchen, have almond milk available, etc. while still respecting Covid restrictions?? This is not just a question for Hyatt.

Ask for a room not facing the main street with a tram that passes through at all hours of day and night. Felt cleaning was thorough but caught some guests not wearing masks in the elevator. Price was under a $100 night, which may explain the pot smoke in the 4th floor hallway on our 1st night.

Hi Tony, Thanks for the review. Our staff works hard to inform guest to have masks on at all times in public areas, we also work very hard to sanitize and make sure everting is as clean as possible. I am glad you enjoyed your stay, I hope you can come back to Salt Lake and our hotel in the near future. Sincerely Brandon

We stayed here for the location close to the NYE celebration at the Gateway. Stayed in room 506. The location of the hotel is convenient to the Jazz games, and anything going on right downtown. Light rail stop half a block away. Check in was simple, $10 for parking, which is fine, got to our room and it was super small. We had booked a king bed with a sofa sleeper which was indicated were all the rooms that were left. Very small. Bathroom was tiny, toilet and a shower, I was surprised by the lack of light in the actual shower, it was like showering in a cave. only one light and it was not bright. The bed was very firm, so if you like that it will be perfect. There is a train track and light rail close by, but I didn't really notice but one or two horns. We called down to the front desk to see if someone could set up the sofa sleeper bed while we were out so that it would be ready for our kids when we returned. They indicated they didn't have anyone that could do that, which I guess short staff makes sense at 6:30 on New Year's Eve, but I kept thinking to myself that for $200 a night, I paid too much for the room. The pillows on the bed were a little bit of a laugh, 4 pillows and they each were about the size of a typical couch throw pillow. The kids had better pillows on the sofa sleeper. Climate control was good, when we got to the room the temperature was 60, and we were able to get it to 71 by the time we got back to the room after midnight. The curtains were not fully light blocking, so the outside lights that shine on the hotel were easily penetrating into the room. I was disappointed honestly, I expected a little more from the Hyatt for $200 a night.

I wanted to thank you for the review and feedback. I would like to apologize regarding my staff not willing to help out with your sofa sleeper. Our housekeeping staff should have had that in place for your arrival and my front desk staff should have never not assisted with your request. I hope you can comeback to our hotel in the future so we can deliver a true Hyatt Place stay. Sincerely Brandon

I like Hyatt Place because they seem to care about sleep--the rooms are dark and quiet, with even the peepholes covered.
Hyatt Places are also great for families because you are not on top of each other.
This particular HP was within a five minute walk of Fleming's Steak House (like Ruth's Chris) and a Crown Burger restaurant. I had never tried either and liked both.

The Hyatt bills that it has a swimming pool, it's anything but. It's really a wading pool, and when I went to try and swim in it it was covered in leaves. Though its hours are advertised as 7 am to 10:30 pm at 7 am there were leaves everywhere and the water was murky, and the front dek clerk told me it would be dredged "later in the morning when the maintenance staff arrived." Why have the pool open when it's in no condition for swimming. No one came to clean the room and if you sit to have your complimentary breakfast at the lobby tables you'll be forced to listen to staff discussing their weekend.

This is a fairly standard Hyatt Place in a decent location in Salt Lake City. Globalist status was recognized and 4pm checkout granted, free parking on an award stay as per expectation.
Unfortunately, constant noise irritations marred our stay: walls are paper thin and you can clearly hear neighbors speaking in adjacent rooms. Loud plumbing noises are frequent, pounding from ceilings and adjacent rooms, disrespectfully loud housekeeping in hallways making it difficult to focus on work. I am forever surprised just how astonishingly inept and cheap building construction is for hotels like this that invariably lead to a poor customer experience (no sound proofing, PVC pipes, etc.).
Although the room was clean, the shower barely drained leading to water build-up.
Will avoid next time I'm in SLC.

I will speak with our housekeeping department about brining the voice levels down when communicating with each other. I We will also address the drain being slow. Unfortunately I cant make the walls and halls more sound proof. Once again thanks for your feedback! Sincerely Brandon

We were there on a weekend and the area was very quiet.
Free parking in the big lot next to the hotel. Fee parking on site.
The biggest plus was that it was a 10 minute walk to the Red Iguana, one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the US. The tacos, burritos and mole are amazing. Order ahead and bring the food back to the room. Reservations are required if you are eating during the dinner hours.
Disliked · Because of COVID, the breakfast was unexceptional. Not necessarily Hyatt's fault. I don't know what the breakfast is like during non-COVID times, but it would probably not be much, but you can't complain when it's complementary. Okay, you could complain, but you'd only look silly.
Good breakfast places are far away and the one we found, Park Cafe, about 3 miles and a dozen excruciating traffic lights from the hotel, was busy at 11am on a Saturday. There was at least an hour wait so we ordered food to go and ate with the geese at the park across the street. We drove by the farmer's/Saturday market on the way to the restaurant. It looked interesting from the road (we didn't stop). It was only a few blocks from the hotel.

We came into town for 3 nights with our kids and dogs for a funeral in the area. The hotel lobby was clean and the front desk staff was friendly the entire stay. Our room was ok. I found our phone and tv not in working order. The fridge was fine. The bed was a rock. Even my hubby who likes a firm mattress found it to be uncomfortable. We saw people in the (outdoor) pool and it looked clean but we didn't have time to try it ourselves on this trip. We were late to breakfast every single morning. By late, I mean, the last 30 minutes it was being served. If you don't want to be the first one in line at 7am, expect them to be out of food, condiments, and coffee. Breakfast goes until they run out. We were charged $75 for the stay to bring our dogs. This is fine, but for being "pet friendly" I expect to have some level of service for the charge. You'll find the "pet area" is 2 feet of rocky, thorny weeds full of trash, behind the dumpster, on top of an open storm grate, with parking in front of it so hope nobody is parked there. The pet waste bin is full, the poop mits bin is empty. No, there is no substitute place to bring your dog to use the bathroom. The entire parking lot is cemented.

Thank you for the review. I am sorry you did not find an adequate place for your dog to go. We are in a downtown area with limited grass other than across the street. I can assure you we never just put out food and let it run out. We serve until 9 am Monday through Friday and until 10 am on Saturday and Sunday. We always restock all item's until closing time. If you came 30 after that yes we would be out of product. Sincerely Brandon

The staff is helpful and willing to please guests. Make sure to get a room on the west side of the building so that you don’t hear the train every time it passes by. The breakfast was good and served in portable containers that we took back to our room and enjoyed. My six kids are picky eaters and there was something served that they enjoyed. So there’s variety served at breakfast. The rooms have a comfortable couch that becomes a sofa bed. Our sofa bed was comfortable (I have an injured neck and back) and I woke up feeling rested.

I believe checkout is 12pm, but you can try to call to see if they can accommodate a late checkout if needed.
We exited out the back door and the security bar raised without a key to exit. Once you exit you may not reenter the lot without a key. We could see our vehicle from our room, so we felt it was secure.
So sorry for the delay, Yes we are pet friendly.
