We just stayed one night to attend a Jazz game. The front staff were all very friendly and professional. The room was clean. The breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast. The coffee was solid. Close to the event center. Not really a walking hotel. You'll need a car, but its a short drive to downtown.

Got off on the wrong foot right from the get go! Arrived about 4pm on Friday to check in and there was literally no staff around. Waited about 10 minutes & a cleaning lady came out & said "uno momento" whilst holding a finger up. Waited at least another 10 minutes until a staff member came racing in from the parking lot and checked me... while two other parties were also wondering what the heck was up. Got no apology for the poor service.
Over the course of our two day stay, I saw time and time again items that were in need of care but apparently there wasn't enough staff to deal with them-- from dirty room to messy lobby bathroom to no complimentary coffee. I know staffing is difficult right now so really cut places slack but it was really apparent here. Also, the traffic at night is really loud if you're room faces the street out front. Sounds like one of the roads is a popular race strip for supped up cars or so something. Rather annoying at midnight!

A very unusual Hampton Inn, obviously a retro fit from another chain (Best Western?). They were still converting it over it appeared but very discretely, no impact to our stay at all. Seemed weird for a Hampton Inn though.
Got to our room and it was massive... complete living room dining room and kitchenette with a separate bedroom. Best of all was the bathroom... the shower was huge. My picture doesn't really capture the size. The bathroom was also accessible from the bedroom and the living room area with double doors. And the price was amazing. The room furniture and decor needed some upgrading (which it sounds like was in progress) but really a great value. The staff were excellent as well. Had a great stay here.

Hands-down, this was my worst Hampton Inn stay. This place is run-down and poorly run. Everywhere I turned, the furniture was worn, threadbare, scuffed, or covered in stains. There were definitely bodily fluids on the chair in my room. The fridge in my room was broken. A colleague also staying at this hotel said that the towels in her room were stained. Another colleague had to switch rooms because the first room she got had toenail clippings and other issues with the first room she got.
Service was friendly but incompetent and unprofessional. The ironing board was completely broken in my room, so I was promised a new one would be put outside my room. This promise was never fulfilled, but housekeeping did enter my room when I had the do not disturb sign up. What is the point of providing these signs if they are ignored?
The staff covered the front desk and enjoyed a meal with friends in the lobby at the same time. Couldn't tell who worked there, and who was staying there.
The shower in my room squealed in an ear splitting way through every shower. The same was true for the showers around my room, and those in the rooms of my travel companions.
The breakfast was disgusting. Boiled eggs were not refrigerated, and sat out for hours. Coffee was weak. Hot food was overcooked and gross. Food was not well stocked, day after day.
I will have to return to SLC for work at some point, and will definitely not stay here again. I'll also warn others to stay away.

I checked in around 6:00pm on the 7th of NOV and the check in process was a little long because he said he couldn’t take anybody else’s credit card even if it is the person that eat with me.. he also mentioned that there was no way to do it.. mind you I have been an assistant general manager for hotels for 8 years with places such as Hyatt, Sheraton, Holiday inn and well.... the park in by Radisson, go figure.. so in kindly let the guy know that there is absolutely a way to do this and it is called s credit card authorization form that every hotel has... and I asked the gentlemen if I could get one to fill out and he was almost hesitant in giving me the form, but he did. I got into my first room and it was so hot in there and I called the front desk and told him that the air conditioner was not working so he told me that he would switch me rooms and I agreed because it was super uncomfortable. In the middle of moving he informed me that the white truck of my girlfriend’s didn’t have a handicap sticker and that she could not park there (this truck is her grandpa’s as her car is in the shop) mind you it did not have the the handicap sticker but it have the paper work showing that it was supposed to have one and even tho I showed him this he told her me that it does not matter... we get into the 2nd room and at first the air was in but then it just started trying hotter and hotter and I really didn’t feel like switching rooms again so I stuck with it ( it was miserable) check out time came along this next morning and so when i I packed my art and went to the front desk to wait for my ride the women that was working 7-3 shift must have been in a bad mood because as I was checking out she was very stern and very off Standish. I asked her if she was having a bad day or off she was okay and she wouldn’t even Acknowledge that I said anything to her at all and continued to ask my my room number because I was checking out..

Response from Seth Taylor, General Manager at Hampton Inn Salt Lake City Central
Responded Nov 11, 2020
Brandon, I am very sorry to hear about the negative experience you had at a recent Hilton hotel. In your review, you mentioned multiple times that a man was helping you. I am the only male who works our front desk, and I wasn't at the hotel on the 7th. Is there a chance that this review is meant for a different hotel? This is the Hampton on 2100 S and Redwood Road in SLC, Utah. If it was this hotel, I want to make sure to do everything we can to resolve your concerns. However, if it is meant for a different hotel. then the hotels are franchised, so I would not oversee the hotel you had your difficult experience at.

Although we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, after we left and received our bill, the hotel charged us an additional $125 for damages not on our bill that I am certain we did not do. The charges showed up on my credit card without explanation until I investigated. I tried to resolve with the hotel and with Hilton rewards. The hotel reduced the amount to $75 but would not reverse the entire amount. The manager was rude over the phone and hung up on me without resolution. I have stayed at many Hampton inns in the part but will not stay at any in the future. Completely unacceptable customer service on this issue. Hilton honors was no help in resolving the issue and pushed it back to the hotel. This situation put a shadow over an otherwise great vacation.

The overall cleanliness & staff professionalism was outstanding & in-line with Hilton standards. The afternoon front office staff was extremely helpful during my stay. The breakfast during COVID protocol was on par.
My only complaint is the room I was placed in was loud. I was placed in room on 2nd floor adjacent to housekeeping & a compressor would randomly turn on & awake me. The hotel update the floor and put new tile along entry and left small gap between door & floor thus letting in hallway noise.

Nicholas, thank you for taking time to write us a review. We appreciate the excellent words about our wonderful staff, and I will make sure to share your kind words with them. I am very sorry about the noise issues with that room at the end of the hallway. We will make sure to not assign you to a room next to one of our housekeeping closets next time.

The hotel is dated and the receptionist was unenthusiastic. The beds were so uncomfortable we barely slept at all and any sleep we might have had was interrupted by the loud air conditioning. The breakfast was appalling: poor quality and all the machines such the pancake, oatmeal and waffle maker, were out of service. We were desperate to leave!!

The room was great , very clean and the Breakfast was very tasty . The only real issue was with the room charges. I booked and paid for the room on line but the Hotel clerk also charged my card for the room . Even after several contacts I have not gotten the charge straighten out . As of this writing I paid 2 times for the same room and I paid a higher rate than I was quoted by their desk staff person

The carpet and the cloth chair in the room were DISGUSTING! There were stains everywhere and I wouldn't have dared been barefoot on those floors. The bedsheets were ripped as well... It really needed to be updated! Additionally, our room was near the pool and we heard people laughing and screaming until 11 pm and the front desk had their music on all night, which also made it hard to sleep. Better insulation in the walls to drown out noise would have helped. Finally, the room was SO HOT. We were all sweating all night and couldn't get the room to cool down. On a positive note, the hotel staff was friendly and the fresh cookies at check in were nice. (That is the only reason I'm giving this hotel a 2 star rating instead of a 1.)
