Detailed Reviews
The positives for this hotel was its closeness to downtown plus walking distance to a few restaurants. In addition, the underground parking was a big plus so I did not have to freeze in the car while waiting for my rental to warm up in the mornings. I also liked having an in room safe which was unusual in the US.
Unfortunately the negatives impacted my stay the most. The hotel decor was dated and my room dark and smelled a bit musty. It needed to be added to the renovation list for Marriott. In addition, the different buildings were not interconnected so this meant having to walk outside to get to the gym. You definitely want to cool down and bundle up before waking back to your room in the cold weather.

The Residence Inn Salt Lake City has consistently provided high quality service and attention to detail during my stays. I was impressed with the cleanliness, comfort, and immaculate condition of the rooms. There is no place I would rather stay than Marriott. Ms. Clarisa at the Residence Inn Salt Lake City downtown is an exceptional manager. I received excellent customer service from her. My admiration for her professionalism, expertise, and intelligence is unwavering. She went above and beyond to ensure that my stay at Marriott was pleasant and well-cared for. Having a supportive and cohesive manager like Ms. Clarisa makes a positive impact on the customer experience. Front desk staff Mr. Trevor and Mr. Cyrus provided excellent customer service. They treat customers with kindness, generosity, and respect. My sincere appreciation and gratitude are due to the entire team for treating me so wonderfully. It was an excellent stay in every way. I highly recommend this place.

The location was great and it was really nice to have a good parking lot to park in since parking can be a little sketchy in the downtown area. The room was ok. It didn’t smell very nice (old cigarette smoke?). It changes the experience when you walk in and the room smells funky. The dishes in the cupboard were dirty and the vanity in the bathroom extremely short and small. BUT, the room
seemed clean, it was fun to have a little balcony, and the bed was comfortable. I would stay here again at the right price.

This hotel is basically devoid of amenities or service and using the Covid excuse as a reason to offer nothing more than a room. A hotel that claims to offer breakfast, an exercise room, and a pool, actually offers none of those things. Even the guestroom was very poorly maintained. Two lone towels, no hand towels, wash cloths , or paper towels in the kitchen area. For a Marriott, I found this hotel to be very substandard. If a hotel is going to be open, then be open and offer what you claim to offer. If you are afraid of the virus, close down and open when you are ready.

Dear Voyager626939- I'd like to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback here on Tripadvisor and I apologize that some of our typical amenities and services pre-COVID are not currently available. As stated on our official Marriott.com website, due to the ongoing pandemic, some hotel facilities or services may not be available during your stay. We recommend all our guests contact the hotel directly prior to their stay to confirm which amenities may or may not be available. We are happy to be currently offering a complimentary Grab-and-Go breakfast at our front desk each morning. We are also proud to offer fully equipped kitchens in each of our recently-renovated guest rooms which allow all our guests to make themselves feel more at home.

This hotel is at full capacity but they don’t have any housekeeping. Our room was not cleaned before we checked in. The carpet was dirty/not vacuumed, dirty dishes in sink, garbage in the garbage cans in the room. That is when we found out there isn’t housekeeping here. We had to go buy supplies and clean it ourselves. They don’t have clocks in the room. They have construction going on, but that doesn’t really bother me. It’s the lack of staff here to clean the rooms before you check in that bothers me. You can’t even find a parking space if you come to the hotel in the evening, that’s how full they are here. But they wont hire staff right now. They tell us to leave dirty towels and trash outside the door, but its left there for a couple of days before it’s picked up.
It’s like an extended stay here now. You get your toilet paper and towels from the front desk when you arrive.
Right now, during the COVId pandemic, it is definitely not the time to cut out housekeeping at a hotel! Retail stores even hire additional help to keep their stores and carts clean for customers. Marriott does not seem to be concerned about the health and safety of their customers and employees. I do not recommend staying here this summer.

Worst experience, rude staff and filthy. My sisters and I chose this hotel because when we called they said the pool was open. When we got there the pool was closed and we were accused of lying about being told it was open. Our check in was at 2 and when we arrived at 4pm we were told to wait and someone needed to check our room to make sure it was clean. When we got into our room the beds were sloppy, the towels were hung sloppy and there was barley any toilet paper. During our bed bug check we discovered the mattress cover had what looked like smeared dried blood and a bunch of hair on it. When we told the man at the front desk he said “I don’t know what you expect me to do. I’m here alone so I can’t help you”. We asked for new cover and sheets to do it ourselves and he had given us the wrong size so it didn’t fit. There were nats in our room, a dead fly on my towel and there was no house keeping so the hallways were filled with trash bags from guests waiting to get picked up for two days. Nothing had been cleaned or sanitized and the whole place smelled nasty. Save your money and DONT stay here, you’d probably have a better experience at the super 8 motel.

I have stayed at this property 3 times in the last couple of months, each time the experience gets worse. I finally gave up. This last stay I arrived around 7 pm. I booked a single queen suite, and I got a double Queen suite. The room is not friendly to working since the desk was in a corner of the room down a small hall. There was no light switch for the bedroom, (there was a wall plate, but no switch) so I stumbled through the room to get to the night stands to turn on a light. Second bed is just an obstacle. TV was mounted to the wall and could not be turned. Bed was OK, but traffic noise was loud. Bathroom could have been cleaned better. I was looking forward to a nice, hot shower but it never happened. The water got warm at best and after running for a couple of minutes it went cold. Each room has a separate water heater, and this one did not work. These rooms are not typical of a Residence Inn, and there are other locations around SLC that are much better. Grab-to-go breakfast was a yogurt, juice, and a muffin. What a joke. I would have complained, but there was no clerk around when I checked out.

I arrived to the hotel on Friday 12/17 at 11:30pm after a long drive, to be told that the reservation that I had made weeks ago was now cancelled and they were "Sold Out". I was so confused by the communication of this, the gal at the front desk was nice enough but her delivery was terrible. Her immediate response was "idk I just got here" and when I told her I was confused, she said housekeeping was really busy and that was why there was not a clean room for me. Then immediately said she could give me 2,000 points, as if that was helpful at all towards my immediate issue with not having a room. I worked for Marriott for years, and I understand that sometimes hotels overbook, but there was no care for my situation what so ever. I was beyond upset, and exhausted and luckily drove and didn't have my children with me. I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and have never had an issue, this was ridiculous and there clearly was no care at all for my reservation or my loyalty to Marriott. I will never stay here again, and would highly recommend the Towneplace Suites Downtown instead.

Our room had dirty stained carpet. Toilet had black mold. AC filter was filthy and couldn't even keep a temp at 73° or lower. Enough hot water for one person to shower. No room cleaning and we stayed 5 days! Pool wasn't running, food was cold every morning. If you wanted anything hot it was make a waffle. Getting extra towels was like pulling teeth. The parking garage filled with water twice due to pipes bursting.
Told us we could use a pool about 10 minutes away but had a limited schedule for open swim. Our other group had to be moved after first night to an older room.
Save your money and stay somewhere else!
I wrote to management and nothing.

My wife and I stayed one night with our dog. I thought I booked through BringFido, which specified a pet fee of $20, but somehow I booked directly with the hotel, which charged a pet fee of $75 and refused to adjust it after the fact. The room was disappointing - tv’s and phone not working properly. The full kitchen was fine. The property was a construction zone. We were in the ancillary building and parking was remote from the entrance. Apparently there is a parking garage but no one told us about it. No ice maker in the building, apparently because of construction, but no notice to this effect so I wandered around looking for it. After a long day of driving, this was not the relaxing experience I was looking for. Not up to the standards of a Marriott property. When I complained on the phone afterward about the pet fee and accommodations, the front desk clerk could not have cared less. All in all, a disappointing experience. We travel with our dog through SLC several times a year on our way to visit grandchildren in CA and have stayed in a number of properties. None were as disappointing as this. We won’t go back.

No problem! Just make sure your name is on the package and we will hold it in our back office.
It's a safe place to stay, just avoid the park at night, like you would in many other cities . Great location. My family loved it. We had three rooms. We stay here each time we come to SLC.
I would be more than happy to have a conversation with you in regards to this. I completely understand the reason for your frustration and we are willing to do everything in our power to make this right.
Unfortunately I do not have jurisdiction over the parking lot of the neighboring buildings or their towing practices. We have approached their Property Management Company and team multiple times in attempt to make things easier for our guests. We have offered to share a towing company that might be less predatory, encouraged them to call our front desk so that we can ask our guests to move before towing, and have also offered to purchase additional signage or baricades of some type that would more clearly separate their parking lot from ours. To date they have been very difficult to work with, but we will continue to have these conversations with them and do everything in our power to prevent these issues in the future. I can provide you with their contact information as well if that would be helpful.
If you will be returning to the Salt Lake City area, I would be happy to talk to you about arranging a discounted rate for you and/or your company to apply towards future stays in effort to compensate for your troubles. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.
Unfortunately we do not have a complimentary Airport Shuttle. We would be happy to help you with transportation arrangments if you are interested.
