Nestled near Olympic National Park, the Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles Harbor is often commended for its spacious rooms with comfortable bedding and a friendly atmosphere, despite some expectations for a cozier vibe. Its prime location garners appreciation, being close to local dining options.
While rooms are generally found to be clean and tidy, opinions on the hotel's value are divided, with some guests feeling the cost is steep, especially for water view rooms. Service experiences range from positive to disappointing, with certain guests facing issues like check-in delays.

We stayed in room 248 and loved the experience overall. The room was spacious, perfect for a family of four, with comfortable bedding and soft pillows that ensured a sound sleep. We especially enjoyed the large deck that overlooked the water—such a peaceful spot! The room also had practical features like a dining table and desk, which added to the convenience.
One downside was the parking situation, which was quite difficult around 8:30 pm. Additionally, the room's proximity to the ice machine made it a bit noisy, and having no elevator made it challenging to carry luggage to the second floor.
Despite these minor inconveniences, the location was ideal, with several restaurants within walking distance for dinner, drinks, and breakfast. The staff was also fantastic, making our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, a great choice for a comfortable and convenient stay!

My family stayed at this hotel for 3 nights while visiting the Olympic Peninsula area. We got a dog-friendly room which had laminated floors and an exterior door to the parking lot. Our room was fairly large and had all the amenities we were expecting. Nice beds, working mini-fridge, good water pressure in the shower, and very cold wall air conditioner. Our stay was reasonably quiet and safe. The parking lot was very well lit at night. The hotel staff was also very friendly and helpful. The hotel wifi speed was 20 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up and was reliable during our stay. They have a fairly nice pool, but we didn't use it. Lots of restaurants within walking distance.
Now, some negatives. The room rate seemed very high for what you get. We paid a total of $408 per night for a 1st floor room with a view of the parking lot (this was in August during their busiest season). The laminated floors were filthy based on the dark black stains on the bottom of our socks. During our 3 night stay, the maid service only cleaned our room once. The seagulls perched on the roofs of the hotel pooped all over our parked car's hood and windshield (gross!). I recommend you park your car away from the building to minimize this from happening. The hotel's restaurant (45 Degrees North Waterfront) gave us terrible service and was way overpriced. Also, there is no complimentary breakfast provided by this hotel.
Even with all these negatives, we might stay here again because of it's close location to many different restaurants and the nice waterfront view. However, I will be considering other places to stay also.

The Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles is okay it was alright last year but it hasn’t gotten better. I will say, the lack of elevators is a downfall. While visiting the quality of the food at the restaurant had considerably gone down since just last year, as well as no longer offering room service, offering only takeout or dine-in you have to pick up your order. The room we stayed in (single king, ocean view second floor) had a single tissue in the box, i grabbed the lone tissue as my ice cream was melting and dripping, not realizing as i threw it away it was the only tisse and my shirt was going to take the brunt of it. The one tissue could be forgiven if it wasn’t for housekeeping not coming unless a morning call was made to request the room to be done. I watched a run away slice of pepperoni get darker and drier each day as house keeping neglected the single pepperoni slice that had been on the carpet it’s new home in the main hallway from the first day to the last day of my 6 day stay. The room we stayed in was home to many fruit flys that hid in the blinds, we brought an electric racket and killed at least 5 and there were still some zooming around the room like humming birds when we left. The staffing shortage and pandemic has really effected the hotel. The shower towels are small, for a normal average sized human, and a joke if your plus-size I found we ended up going shopping for some thing you’d think the hotel would have supplied each day. Q-tips, Floss, a bath sheet, and more.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights on a trip out to the west coast. The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
I would have given a 4 1/2 stars due to the rooms are kind of expensive, with no free breakfast and the outdoor pool was closed.
The room was very comfortable and relaxing, but there were no chairs on the balcony and no screen for the doorwall (seems like most hotels in the west don't have screens), as it would have been nice to keep the doorwall open at night even though it was cool.
I would definitely recommend this hotel if staying in the Port Angeles area.

They don’t honour the included breakfast. They try to blame it on third party websites. Liars. I now see other reviews complaining about the same thing, and when we asked the front desk about it, they said they hate breaking this news to guests. Obviously this is something they are well aware of, but are apparently unable to do anything about. Funny how other hotels don’t have the same problem with Expedia. They added a $35 charge to our credit card without any notice (we left the room clean and returned the key cards to the front desk). This place is sleazy. If you are going for the view just know what you are dealing with: criminals.

One bar of soap to begin with!?! Most hotels give you at least two, one for handwashing and one for showering. The front desk girl during check-in was unfriendly and gave us the incorrect information regarding the price of the room. She told us that it was $329 plus taxes and fees for two nights. The front desk girl during check-out was equally unfriendly and gave us our receipt for almost $800 for our two night stay. Had we been given the correct information about the price, we would have found somewhere else to stay. There were many other options. We are extremely unhappy about the misinformation we received regarding the cost of the room. We definitely won't ever go back to this hotel. This experience has left a horrible taste in our mouths and we will never consider any Red Lion Hotel in the future.

Great location within walking distance of lots of local eateries. Small beach front area for those on the water side… This is one of the more expensive hotels in the area. Looked like they were current renovating, though it still smells like an old musty apartment… the rooms are decent and even the non view rooms have balconies. The bed is very comfortable!
When we travel to port Angeles we’re usually up early and in late so I can’t say it’s really worth the cost- I’d rather go to the Olympic lodge at the other end of town, which is more mid priced and quite nice! But it was still ok.

It was a great stay. This hotel is close to anything you want to do in Port Angeles/Olympic National Park. (By the way, do a whale watching tour with Puget Sound Express!) The room was large, updated and clean (I am a bit picky). The bathroom was large and there was a second bathroom sink outside the bathroom door so I could dry my hair or brush my teeth without bothering whoever was in the bathroom. Don’t let the dated exterior fool you. The rooms were great!

It's puzzling why this property doesn't get better reviews although its vast size may likely play against it. Staff are friendly, competent and appear to stick around (the head facility tech has clearly been with the company for a long while). Responsiveness is great, attached restaurant is great in the support role and very good when compared to outside venues. The waterside deluxe rooms are well maintained and clean.
I suppose the downside in terms of impressions is this is a well-used, very large hotel built with an eye towards the small business convention crowd. It is also very mature, and it shows around the edges. Overall, a room with a waterfront view is great value to anyone with even a passing interest in the regional maritime industry. Boats and ships of all types ply the waters and with a set of binoculars and a ship id app one can literally spend hours entertained by the constant activity in this bustling harbor.

The hotel was a bit "worn" on the outside, but when we got to the room it was nicely appointed (looked newly renovated). My only complaint was the number of stairs we had to lug heavy suitcases to get to the second floor of our building (no elevator). Next time I will request a ground floor.
We originally booked a king bed with a waterfront view room, but when we extended our stay it was too expensive. We opted for a double queen no view room (parking lot). The beds were extremely comfortable and the room was very spacious.
The location is a great jumping off point: easy walking distance to the ferry to Victoria, First Street Haven Restaurant for breakfast and lunch, and Sasquatch Donuts (only F-S-S) for maple bars! Nice art gallery types of shops too. The hotel restaurant, 48° North, my husband also gave big thumbs up to for breakfast.
We will stay there the next time we go back to Port Angeles.
